10 The proverbs of Solomon.
A wise son makes a glad father;
but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing,
but righteousness delivers from death.
3 Yahweh will not allow the soul of the righteous to go hungry,
but he thrusts away the desire of the wicked.
4 He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand,
but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.
5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son,
but he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame.
6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the righteous is blessed,
but the name of the wicked will rot.
8 The wise in heart accept commandments,
but a chattering fool will fall.
9 He who walks blamelessly walks surely,
but he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10 One who winks with the eye causes sorrow,
but a chattering fool will fall.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a spring of life,
but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirs up strife,
but love covers all wrongs.
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment,
but a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge,
but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.
15 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city.
The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labor of the righteous leads to life.
The increase of the wicked leads to sin.
17 He is in the way of life who heeds correction,
but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.
18 He who hides hatred has lying lips.
He who utters a slander is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience,
but he who restrains his lips does wisely.
20 The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver.
The heart of the wicked is of little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many,
but the foolish die for lack of understanding.
22 Yahweh’s blessing brings wealth,
and he adds no trouble to it.
23 It is a fool’s pleasure to do wickedness,
but wisdom is a man of understanding’s pleasure.
24 What the wicked fear will overtake them,
but the desire of the righteous will be granted.
25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more;
but the righteous stand firm forever.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes,
so is the sluggard to those who send him.
27 The fear of Yahweh prolongs days,
but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The prospect of the righteous is joy,
but the hope of the wicked will perish.
29 The way of Yahweh is a stronghold to the upright,
but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
30 The righteous will never be removed,
but the wicked will not dwell in the land.
31 The mouth of the righteous produces wisdom,
but the perverse tongue will be cut off.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.

10 Detta är Salomos ordspråk:Lycklig är den man som har en förståndig son, men den mor som har en oförståndig son får bekymmer.
2 Det man skaffat sig genom bedrägeri för inget gott med sig. Ärlighet däremot räddar från döden.
3 Herren låter inte en rättfärdig människa svälta ihjäl, inte heller låter han den ogudaktige få det han vill ha.
4 Lata människor blir snart fattiga, men den som arbetar hårt blir rik.
5 En vis ung man bärgar sitt hö medan solen skiner, men det är en skam att se en ung man sova under skördetiden.
6 En rättfärdig människa överhopas med välsignelser, men den ogudaktige bär på förbannelser.
7 Rättfärdiga människor kommer man gärna ihåg, även efter deras död, men de ogudaktiga glömmer man fort.
8 Den som är vis tar gärna emot undervisning, men en självsäker pratmakare faller platt till marken.
9 En god människa är lugn och trygg, men en brottsling blir snart avslöjad.
10 Att leka med synden leder till sorg. En kraftig tillrättavisning leder till frid.
11 Det är sanning och liv i vad en god människa säger, men den ogudaktiges mun är full av förbannelser.
12 Hatet underblåser gräl, men kärleken har överseende med förolämpningar.
13 Människor med sunt förnuft är bra rådgivare, men de oförnuftiga får sitt straff.
14 En vis man tänker över sina ord. Bara en dåre talar om allt han vet, och det leder bara till sorg och elände.
15 Den rikes rikedom är hans styrka. Den fattiges fattigdom är hans förbannelse.
16 Vad den gudfruktige förtjänar leder till liv. Den ogudaktige däremot sätter sig i skuld.
17 Den som lyssnar när han blir tillrättavisad är på rätt väg. Den som vägrar lyssna går vilse.
18 Den som hatar han är en lögnare och den som skvallrar han är en dåre.
19 Prata inte så mycket! Då riskerar du att säga något galet. Den förståndige tänker därför på vad han säger.
20 När en gudfruktig människa talar är det värt att lyssna till henne, men dårars ord är inget värda.
21 Den gudfruktige ger goda råd, men den oförståndige dör därför att han saknar sunt förnuft.
22 Det är bara den som Herren välsignar som blir rik. Tro inte att du blir det genom hårt arbete.
23 En dåres nöje består i att vara dåraktig. En vis mans nöje består i att vara vis!
24 Vad den ogudaktige fruktar händer alltid, och vad den gudfruktige hoppas på slår alltid in.
25 Olyckan far fram som en stormvind, och de ogudaktiga förs bort med den. Men den gudfruktige står fast förankrad.
26 En lat tjänsteman är en plåga för arbetsgivaren, lika irriterande som rök i ögonen eller som ättika på tungan.
27 Den som tar Herren på allvar och lyder honom kommer att leva länge. Hur kan då de ogudaktiga vänta sig ett långt, gott liv?
28 De rättfärdiga kan se framåt med glädje, men de ogudaktiga har ingenting att vänta sig.
29 Herren skyddar de uppriktiga och ärliga, men de ogudaktiga störtar han i fördärvet.
30 De rättfärdiga kan alltid känna sig trygga, men de ogudaktiga ska förlora allt.
31 De rättfärdiga ger goda råd, men lögnarens mun borde täppas till.
32 De ärliga talar om sådant som kan vara till hjälp. De ogudaktiga däremot säger bara sådant som ställer till skada.

but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.(R)
10 Whoever winks maliciously(S) causes grief,

12 Hatred stirs up conflict,
but love covers over all wrongs.(V)
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning,(W)

17 Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life,(AE)
but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.
18 Whoever conceals hatred with lying lips(AF)
and spreads slander is a fool.
19 Sin is not ended by multiplying words,

but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
21 The lips of the righteous nourish many,
but fools die for lack of sense.(AH)
23 A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes,(AL)
but a person of understanding delights in wisdom.
28 The prospect of the righteous is joy,
but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.(AV)
29 The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless,
but it is the ruin of those who do evil.(AW)
30 The righteous will never be uprooted,
but the wicked will not remain in the land.(AX)
