Spreuken over wijsheid (vervolg)
11 Strooi je brood op het water,
want je zal het na een poos weer terugvinden.
2 Verdeel het in zeven, nee, in acht delen,[a]
want je weet niet wat voor ellende je nog zal overkomen.
3 Als de wolken vol zijn,
gieten ze regen uit over de aarde.
En als een boom valt, naar het zuiden of naar het noorden,
dan blijft hij liggen op de plaats waar hij valt.
4 Iemand die steeds op de wind let, zal nooit zaaien.
En iemand die steeds op de wolken let of het niet gaat regenen, zal nooit maaien.
5 Je weet niet waar de wind vandaan komt en waar hij naartoe gaat.
En je weet niet hoe een kind groeit in de buik van zijn moeder.
Zo weet je ook niet wat God aan het doen is.
6 Zaai 's morgens en 's middags.
Want je weet niet welk deel zal opkomen.
Denk ook aan God als je nog jong bent
7 Het licht is prettig. Het is heerlijk om het zonlicht te zien. 8 Daarom moet je, hoelang je ook leeft, van elke dag genieten. Vergeet niet dat de tijd die je in het donker van de dood zal doorbrengen, nog veel langer zal zijn. Dan blijkt dat alles wat je hebt gedaan maar lucht is. 9 Als je jong bent, geniet dan van je jeugd. Doe wat je graag wil doen. Maar weet wel dat God zal oordelen over alles wat je doet. 10 Maak dus geen ruzie en zorg dat je gezond blijft. Bedenk dat je jeugd voorbijgaat: het is maar lucht. (lees verder)

- Prediker 11:2 Waarschijnlijk bedoelt Prediker met het eerste vers: Durf iets te wagen, want het zal je uiteindelijk voordeel opleveren. En met het tweede vers: Maar zet niet alles op één kaart: doe het wel verstandig.

11 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
