²⁰ For ^(A)our ^[a]citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly ^(B)wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;

¹⁰ and to ^(A)wait for His Son from ^[a]heaven, whom He ^(B)raised from the dead, that is, Jesus who ^(C)rescues us from ^(D)the wrath to come.

^8 (A)You too be patient; ^(B)strengthen your hearts, for ^(C)the coming of the Lord is ^(D)near.

⁸ But do not let this one fact escape your notice, ^(A)beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and ^(B)a thousand years like one day. ^9 (C)The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but ^(D)is patient toward you, ^(E)not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.

A New Heaven and Earth

¹⁰ But ^(F)the day of the Lord ^(G)will come like a thief, in which ^(H)the heavens ^(I)will pass away with a roar and the ^(J)elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and ^(K)the earth and ^[a]its works will be ^[b]discovered.

¹¹ Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, ^12 (L)looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which ^(M)the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the ^(N)elements will melt with intense heat! ¹³ But according to His ^(O)promise we are looking for ^(P)new heavens and a new earth, ^(Q)in which righteousness dwells.

²⁸ Now, ^(A)little children, remain in Him, so that when He ^(B)appears, we may have ^(C)confidence and ^(D)not ^[a]draw back from Him in shame ^[b]at His ^(E)coming.

^2 (A)Beloved, now we are ^(B)children of God, and ^(C)it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He ^(D)appears, we will be ^(E)like Him, because we will ^(F)see Him just as He is. ³ And everyone who has this ^(G)hope set on Him ^(H)purifies himself, just as He is pure.
