Greeting
1 From Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Yeshua.
To God’s people in the city of Philippi and their bishops[a] and deacons[b]—to everyone who is united with Christ Yeshua.
2 Good will[c] and peace from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua Christ are yours!
Paul’s Prayer for the Philippians
3 I thank my God for all the memories I have of you. 4 Every time I pray for all of you, I do it with joy. 5 I can do this because of the partnership we’ve had with you in the Good News from the first day you believed until now. 6 I’m convinced that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it through to completion on the day of Christ Yeshua. 7 You have a special place in my heart. So it’s right for me to think this way about all of you. All of you are my partners. Together we share God’s favor,[d] whether I’m in prison or defending and confirming the truth of the Good News. 8 God is my witness that, with all the compassion of Christ Yeshua, I long to see every one of you.
9 I pray that your love will keep on growing because of your knowledge and insight. 10 That way you will be able to determine what is best and be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. 11 Yeshua Christ will fill your lives with everything that God’s approval produces. Your lives will then bring glory and praise to God.
Nothing Matters Except That People Are Told about Christ
12 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what happened to me has helped to spread the Good News. 13 As a result, it has become clear to all the soldiers who guard the emperor and to everyone else that I am in prison because of Christ. 14 So through my being in prison, the Lord has given most of our brothers and sisters confidence to speak God’s word more boldly and fearlessly than ever.
15 Some people tell the message about Christ because of their jealousy and envy. Others tell the message about him because of their good will. 16 Those who tell the message about Christ out of love know that God has put me here to defend the Good News. 17 But the others are insincere. They tell the message about Christ out of selfish ambition in order to stir up trouble for me while I’m in prison. 18 But what does it matter? Nothing matters except that, in one way or another, people are told the message about Christ, whether with honest or dishonest motives, and I’m happy about that.
Paul Honors Christ Whether He Lives or Dies
Yes, I will continue to be happy 19 for another reason. I know that I will be set free through your prayers and through the help that comes from the Spirit of Yeshua Christ. 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will have nothing to be ashamed of. I will speak very boldly and honor Christ in my body, now as always, whether I live or die. 21 Christ means everything to me in this life, and when I die I’ll have even more. 22 If I continue to live in this life, my work will produce more results. I don’t know which I would prefer. 23 I find it hard to choose between the two. I would like to leave this life and be with Christ. That’s by far the better choice. 24 But for your sake it’s better that I remain in this life. 25 Since I’m convinced of this, I know that I will continue to live and be with all of you. This will help you to grow and be joyful in your faith. 26 So by coming to you again, I want to give you even more reason to have pride in Christ Yeshua with me.
Fighting for the Faith
27 Live as citizens who reflect the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come to see you or whether I stay away, I’ll hear all about you. I’ll hear that you are firmly united in spirit, united in fighting for the faith that the Good News brings. 28 So don’t let your opponents intimidate you in any way. This is God’s way of showing them that they will be destroyed and that you will be saved. 29 God has given you the privilege not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for him. 30 You are involved in the same struggle that you saw me having. Now you hear that I’m still involved in it.

Oración de Pablo por los creyentes
3 Doy gracias a mi Dios siempre que me acuerdo de vosotros, 4 siempre en todas mis oraciones rogando con gozo por todos vosotros, 5 por vuestra comunión en el evangelio, desde el primer día hasta ahora; 6 estando persuadido de esto, que el que comenzó en vosotros la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Jesucristo; 7 como me es justo sentir esto de todos vosotros, por cuanto os tengo en el corazón; y en mis prisiones, y en la defensa y confirmación del evangelio, todos vosotros sois participantes conmigo de la gracia. 8 Porque Dios me es testigo de cómo os amo a todos vosotros con el entrañable amor de Jesucristo. 9 Y esto pido en oración, que vuestro amor abunde aún más y más en ciencia y en todo conocimiento, 10 para que aprobéis lo mejor, a fin de que seáis sinceros e irreprensibles para el día de Cristo, 11 llenos de frutos de justicia que son por medio de Jesucristo, para gloria y alabanza de Dios.
Para mí el vivir es Cristo
12 Quiero que sepáis, hermanos, que las cosas que me han sucedido, han redundado más bien para el progreso del evangelio, 13 de tal manera que mis prisiones(B) se han hecho patentes en Cristo en todo el pretorio, y a todos los demás. 14 Y la mayoría de los hermanos, cobrando ánimo en el Señor con mis prisiones, se atreven mucho más a hablar la palabra sin temor.
15 Algunos, a la verdad, predican a Cristo por envidia y contienda; pero otros de buena voluntad. 16 Los unos anuncian a Cristo por contención, no sinceramente, pensando añadir aflicción a mis prisiones; 17 pero los otros por amor, sabiendo que estoy puesto para la defensa del evangelio. 18 ¿Qué, pues? Que no obstante, de todas maneras, o por pretexto o por verdad, Cristo es anunciado; y en esto me gozo, y me gozaré aún.
19 Porque sé que por vuestra oración y la suministración del Espíritu de Jesucristo, esto resultará en mi liberación, 20 conforme a mi anhelo y esperanza de que en nada seré avergonzado; antes bien con toda confianza, como siempre, ahora también será magnificado Cristo en mi cuerpo, o por vida o por muerte. 21 Porque para mí el vivir es Cristo, y el morir es ganancia. 22 Mas si el vivir en la carne resulta para mí en beneficio de la obra, no sé entonces qué escoger. 23 Porque de ambas cosas estoy puesto en estrecho, teniendo deseo de partir y estar con Cristo, lo cual es muchísimo mejor; 24 pero quedar en la carne es más necesario por causa de vosotros. 25 Y confiado en esto, sé que quedaré, que aún permaneceré con todos vosotros, para vuestro provecho y gozo de la fe, 26 para que abunde vuestra gloria de mí en Cristo Jesús por mi presencia otra vez entre vosotros.
27 Solamente que os comportéis como es digno del evangelio de Cristo, para que o sea que vaya a veros, o que esté ausente, oiga de vosotros que estáis firmes en un mismo espíritu, combatiendo unánimes por la fe del evangelio, 28 y en nada intimidados por los que se oponen, que para ellos ciertamente es indicio de perdición, mas para vosotros de salvación; y esto de Dios. 29 Porque a vosotros os es concedido a causa de Cristo, no solo que creáis en él, sino también que padezcáis por él, 30 teniendo el mismo conflicto que habéis visto en mí,(C) y ahora oís que hay en mí.

3 Doy gracias a mi Dios siempre que me acuerdo[b] de vosotros(I), 4 orando[c] siempre con gozo en cada una de mis oraciones por todos vosotros(J), 5 por vuestra participación en el evangelio[d](K) desde el primer día hasta ahora(L), 6 estando convencido precisamente de esto: que el que comenzó en vosotros la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Cristo Jesús(M). 7 Es justo que yo sienta[e] esto acerca de todos vosotros(N), porque os llevo en el corazón(O), pues tanto en mis prisiones[f](P) como en la defensa y confirmación del evangelio(Q), todos vosotros sois participantes conmigo de la gracia. 8 Porque Dios me es testigo(R) de cuánto os añoro a todos con el entrañable amor[g] de Cristo Jesús(S). 9 Y esto pido en oración: que vuestro amor abunde aún más y más(T) en conocimiento verdadero y en todo discernimiento(U), 10 a fin de que escojáis lo mejor[h](V), para que seáis puros e irreprensibles para el día de Cristo(W); 11 llenos del fruto de justicia(X) que es por medio de Jesucristo, para la gloria y alabanza de Dios.
La vida es Cristo
12 Y quiero que sepáis, hermanos, que las circunstancias en que me he visto, han redundado en el mayor progreso del evangelio(Y), 13 de tal manera que mis prisiones[i](Z) por la causa de Cristo se han hecho notorias en toda la guardia pretoriana[j] y a todos los demás(AA); 14 y que la mayoría de los hermanos, confiando en el Señor[k] por causa de mis prisiones[l](AB), tienen mucho más valor para hablar la palabra de Dios sin temor(AC). 15 Algunos, a la verdad, predican a Cristo aun por envidia y rivalidad(AD), pero también otros lo hacen de buena voluntad; 16 [m]estos lo hacen por amor, sabiendo que he sido designado para la defensa del evangelio(AE); 17 aquellos proclaman a Cristo por ambición personal(AF), no con sinceridad, pensando causarme angustia en mis prisiones[n](AG). 18 ¿Entonces qué? Que de todas maneras, ya sea fingidamente o en verdad, Cristo es proclamado; y en esto me regocijo, sí, y me regocijaré. 19 Porque sé que esto resultará en mi liberación[o] mediante vuestras oraciones[p](AH) y la suministración[q] del Espíritu de Jesucristo(AI), 20 conforme a mi anhelo(AJ) y esperanza de que en nada seré avergonzado(AK), sino que con toda confianza(AL), aun ahora, como siempre, Cristo será exaltado en mi cuerpo(AM), ya sea por vida o por muerte(AN). 21 Pues para mí, el vivir es Cristo(AO) y el morir es ganancia. 22 Pero si el vivir en la carne, esto significa para mí una labor fructífera(AP), entonces, no sé cuál escoger, 23 pues de ambos lados me siento apremiado, teniendo el deseo de partir y estar con Cristo(AQ), pues eso es mucho mejor; 24 y sin embargo, continuar en la carne es más necesario por causa de vosotros. 25 Y convencido de esto(AR), sé que permaneceré y continuaré con todos vosotros para vuestro progreso y gozo en la fe, 26 para que vuestra profunda satisfacción por mí abunde en Cristo Jesús(AS) a causa de mi visita[r] otra vez a vosotros.
Luchando unánimes por la fe
27 Solamente comportaos de una manera digna(AT) del evangelio de Cristo(AU), de modo que ya sea que vaya a veros[s], o que permanezca ausente, pueda oír que vosotros estáis firmes(AV) en un mismo espíritu(AW), luchando unánimes[t] por la fe del evangelio(AX); 28 de ninguna manera amedrentados por vuestros adversarios, lo cual es señal(AY) de perdición para ellos, pero de salvación para vosotros, y esto, de Dios. 29 Porque a vosotros se os ha concedido por amor[u] de Cristo, no solo creer en Él, sino también sufrir por Él(AZ), 30 sufriendo el mismo conflicto(BA) que visteis en mí, y que ahora oís que está en mí(BB).

2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.(F)
Thanksgiving and Prayer
3 I thank my God every time I remember you.(G) 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray(H) with joy 5 because of your partnership(I) in the gospel from the first day(J) until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion(K) until the day of Christ Jesus.(L)
7 It is right(M) for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart(N) and, whether I am in chains(O) or defending(P) and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. 8 God can testify(Q) how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9 And this is my prayer: that your love(R) may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,(S) 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,(T) 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness(U) that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
Paul’s Chains Advance the Gospel
12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters,[b] that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard[c] and to everyone else that I am in chains(V) for Christ. 14 And because of my chains,(W) most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.(X)
15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.(Y) 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition,(Z) not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.(AA) 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers(AB) and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ(AC) what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.[d](AD) 20 I eagerly expect(AE) and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage(AF) so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body,(AG) whether by life or by death.(AH) 21 For to me, to live is Christ(AI) and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart(AJ) and be with Christ,(AK) which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.
Life Worthy of the Gospel
27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy(AL) of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm(AM) in the one Spirit,[e] striving together(AN) as one for the faith of the gospel 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. 29 For it has been granted to you(AO) on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer(AP) for him, 30 since you are going through the same struggle(AQ) you saw(AR) I had, and now hear(AS) that I still have.
