Israel se arruinó a sí mismo
13 Efraín se hizo a sí mismo muy importante en Israel.
Cuando hablaba, todos temblaban de miedo.
Pero Efraín pecó adorando a Baal,
y por eso murió.
2 Ahora continúan pecando y fabrican ídolos.
Construyen las mejores imágenes que pueden hacer.
Son trabajos hechos por los mejores artesanos.
Les hablan a esas estatuas y besan a los becerros.
3 Por eso serán como nubes del amanecer
y como rocío que desaparece rápidamente.
Serán como paja que arrastra el viento
en los lugares donde se trilla el grano;
como humo que sale de una chimenea y desaparece.
4 «Yo he sido el SEÑOR tu Dios
desde que vivías en Egipto.
No conociste a otro Dios que no fuera yo.
Yo era tu único salvador.
5 Te conocí en el desierto,
en esa tierra seca.
6 Mientras los guié y los alimenté,
tuvieron mucho que comer.
Pero se volvieron arrogantes
y se olvidaron de mí.
7 »Así que seré como un león con ellos.
Seré como un leopardo en el camino a Asiria.
8 Los atacaré como un oso enfurecido
y destrozaré su pecho.
Los devoraré como un león;
los destrozaré como un animal salvaje destroza a su presa.
9 »Israel, te destruiré
porque te pusiste en contra mía.
Te pusiste en contra de quien te ayudó.
10 ¿Dónde está tu rey?
¿Podrá salvar todas tus ciudades?
¿Dónde están los jueces que pediste cuando dijiste:
“Dame un rey y unos líderes”[a]?
11 Yo te di un rey cuando estaba enojado
y te lo quité cuando estaba lleno de ira.
12 »Efraín trató de ocultar sus culpas.
Creyó que sus pecados eran un secreto,
pero recibirá su castigo.
13 Le llegarán dolores como los que siente una mujer que da a luz.
Él no será un niño sabio.
Cuando le llegue la hora de nacer,
no sobrevivirá.
14 Los liberaré del sepulcro;
los rescataré de la muerte.
Muerte, ¿dónde está tu plaga?
Sepulcro, ¿dónde está tu poder?
No veo razón para lamentarse.
15 Efraín es el más rico entre todos sus hermanos,
pero vendrá un viento del oriente.
El aliento del SEÑOR soplará desde el desierto.
Los manantiales y fuentes de Efraín se secarán.
El viento se llevará sus tesoros
y objetos preciosos.
16 Samaria es culpable
por haberse rebelado contra su Dios.
Serán pasados a cuchillo,
sus hijos serán estrellados contra el suelo
y sus mujeres embarazadas serán destripadas».

The Lord’s Anger Against Israel
13 When Ephraim spoke, people trembled;(A)
he was exalted(B) in Israel.
But he became guilty of Baal worship(C) and died.
2 Now they sin more and more;
they make(D) idols for themselves from their silver,(E)
cleverly fashioned images,
all of them the work of craftsmen.(F)
It is said of these people,
“They offer human sacrifices!
They kiss[a](G) calf-idols!(H)”
3 Therefore they will be like the morning mist,
like the early dew that disappears,(I)
like chaff(J) swirling from a threshing floor,(K)
like smoke(L) escaping through a window.
4 “But I have been the Lord your God
ever since you came out of Egypt.(M)
You shall acknowledge(N) no God but me,(O)
no Savior(P) except me.
5 I cared for you in the wilderness,(Q)
in the land of burning heat.
6 When I fed them, they were satisfied;
when they were satisfied, they became proud;(R)
then they forgot(S) me.(T)
7 So I will be like a lion(U) to them,
like a leopard I will lurk by the path.
8 Like a bear robbed of her cubs,(V)
I will attack them and rip them open;
like a lion(W) I will devour them—
a wild animal will tear them apart.(X)
9 “You are destroyed, Israel,
because you are against me,(Y) against your helper.(Z)
10 Where is your king,(AA) that he may save you?
Where are your rulers in all your towns,
of whom you said,
‘Give me a king and princes’?(AB)
11 So in my anger I gave you a king,(AC)
and in my wrath I took him away.(AD)
12 The guilt of Ephraim is stored up,
his sins are kept on record.(AE)
13 Pains as of a woman in childbirth(AF) come to him,
but he is a child without wisdom;
when the time(AG) arrives,
he doesn’t have the sense to come out of the womb.(AH)
14 “I will deliver this people from the power of the grave;(AI)
I will redeem them from death.(AJ)
Where, O death, are your plagues?
Where, O grave, is your destruction?(AK)
“I will have no compassion,
15 even though he thrives(AL) among his brothers.
An east wind(AM) from the Lord will come,
blowing in from the desert;
his spring will fail
and his well dry up.(AN)
His storehouse will be plundered(AO)
of all its treasures.
16 The people of Samaria(AP) must bear their guilt,(AQ)
because they have rebelled(AR) against their God.
They will fall by the sword;(AS)
their little ones will be dashed(AT) to the ground,
their pregnant women(AU) ripped open.”[b]
