9 And the Lord spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

²Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season.

³In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.

⁴And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, that they should keep the passover.

⁵And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.

⁶And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:

⁷And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the Lord in his appointed season among the children of Israel?

⁸And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the Lord will command concerning you.

⁹And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

¹⁰Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto the Lord.

¹¹The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

¹²They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.

¹³But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of the Lord in his appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.

¹⁴And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover unto the Lord; according to the ordinance of the passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.

¹⁵And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning.

¹⁶So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.

¹⁷And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.

¹⁸At the commandment of the Lord the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the Lord they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.

¹⁹And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord, and journeyed not.

²⁰And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the Lord they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the Lord they journeyed.

²¹And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.

²²Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

²³At the commandment of the Lord they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the Lord they journeyed: they kept the charge of the Lord, at the commandment of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

The Second Passover^(A)

9 Now the Lord spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying: ²“Let the children of Israel keep ^(B)the Passover at its appointed ^(C)time. ³On the fourteenth day of this month, ^[a]at twilight, you shall ^[b]keep it at its appointed time. According to all its ^[c]rites and ceremonies you shall keep it.” ⁴So Moses told the children of Israel that they should keep the Passover. ⁵And ^(D)they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month, at twilight, in the Wilderness of Sinai; according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did.

⁶Now there were certain men who were ^(E)defiled by a human corpse, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day; ^(F)and they came before Moses and Aaron that day. ⁷And those men said to him, “We became defiled by a human corpse. Why are we kept from presenting the offering of the Lord at its appointed time among the children of Israel?”

⁸And Moses said to them, “Stand still, that ^(G)I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”

⁹Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁰“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If anyone of you or your ^[d]posterity is unclean because of a corpse, or is far away on a journey, he may still keep the Lord’s Passover. ¹¹On ^(H)the fourteenth day of the second month, at twilight, they may keep it. The Cloud and the Fire^(Q)

¹⁵Now ^(R)on the day that the tabernacle was raised up, the cloud ^(S)covered the tabernacle, the tent of the Testimony; ^(T)from evening until morning it was above the tabernacle like the appearance of fire. ¹⁶So it was always: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night. ¹⁷Whenever the cloud ^(U)was ^[h]taken up from above the tabernacle, after that the children of Israel would journey; and in the place where the cloud settled, there the children of Israel would pitch their tents. ¹⁸At the ^[i]command of the Lord the children of Israel would journey, and at the command of the Lord they would camp; ^(V)as long as the cloud stayed above the tabernacle they remained encamped. ¹⁹Even when the cloud continued long, many days above the tabernacle, the children of Israel ^(W)kept the charge of the Lord and did not journey. ²⁰So it was, when the cloud was above the tabernacle a few days: according to the command of the Lord they would remain encamped, and according to the command of the Lord they would journey. ²¹So it was, when the cloud remained only from evening until morning: when the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they would journey; whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud was taken up, they would journey. ²²Whether it was two days, a month, or a year that the cloud remained above the tabernacle, the children of Israel ^(X)would remain encamped and not journey; but when it was taken up, they would journey. ²³At the command of the Lord they remained encamped, and at the command of the Lord they journeyed; they ^(Y)kept the charge of the Lord, at the command of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

9 Så här talade Herren till Mose i Sinai öken under det andra årets första månad sedan de lämnat Egypten: ²”Säg till Israels folk att de ska fira påsk på den bestämda tiden. ³Ni ska fira påsk varje år i skymningen^[a] den fjortonde dagen i denna första månad på den bestämda tiden enligt givna föreskrifter och bud.”

⁴Mose sa då till israeliterna att de skulle fira påsk ⁵och påskfirandet ägde rum i Sinai öken i skymningen den fjortonde dagen i första månaden. Israeliterna gjorde precis som Herren hade befallt Mose. ⁶Men några män var orena därför att de hade kommit nära en död kropp och kunde därför inte fira påsk just då. Molnet och elden över tältet

¹⁵Den dag då boningen restes, täckte molnet förbundstecknets tält. På kvällen och under natten blev molnet i stället till en eld ¹⁶och så förblev det även i fortsättningen. Molnet som fanns där på dagen, såg ut som en eld om natten. ¹⁷När molnet än höjde sig från tältet, bröt hela Israel upp och följde det till den plats där det stannade och där slog man läger. ¹⁸Allt efter Herrens befallning bröt israeliterna upp och på hans befallning slog de läger. De blev kvar så länge molnet stod stilla. ¹⁹Om molnet stod stilla över boningen länge, lydde de Herrens befallning och stannade också länge. ²⁰Ibland stannade molnet över boningen några dagar och folket stannade enligt Herrens befallning och bröt upp likaså enligt Herrens befallning; ²¹ibland stannade det bara över natten och flyttade sig redan följande morgon. Men dag eller natt, närhelst det flyttade sig, bröt folket upp. ²²Och om molnet dröjde över boningen två dagar, en månad eller ett helt år, blev Israels folk kvar lika länge. Men så snart molnet flyttade sig, följde folket efter. ²³På Herrens befallning slog de läger eller gick vidare och vad Herren än gav order om till Mose, det gjorde man.

The Passover

9 The Lord spoke to Moses in the Desert of Sinai in the first month^(A) of the second year after they came out of Egypt.^(B) He said, ²“Have the Israelites celebrate the Passover^(C) at the appointed time.^(D) ³Celebrate it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of this month,^(E) in accordance with all its rules and regulations.^(F)”

⁴So Moses told the Israelites to celebrate the Passover,^(G) ⁵and they did so in the Desert of Sinai^(H) at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month.^(I) The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.^(J)

⁶But some of them could not celebrate the Passover on that day because they were ceremonially unclean^(K) on account of a dead body.^(L) So they came to Moses and Aaron^(M) that same day ⁷and said to Moses, “We have become unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be kept from presenting the Lord’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?^(N)”

⁸Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.”^(O)

⁹Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹⁰“Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body^(P) or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate^(Q) the Lord’s Passover, ¹¹but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month^(R) at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.^(S) ¹²They must not leave any of it till morning^(T) or break any of its bones.^(U) When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.^(V) ¹³But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people^(W) for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.

¹⁴“‘A foreigner^(X) residing among you is also to celebrate the Lord’s Passover in accordance with its rules and regulations. You must have the same regulations for both the foreigner and the native-born.’”

The Cloud Above the Tabernacle

¹⁵On the day the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant law,^(Y) was set up,^(Z) the cloud^(AA) covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire.^(AB) ¹⁶That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire.^(AC) ¹⁷Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out;^(AD) wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.^(AE) ¹⁸At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained^(AF) in camp. ¹⁹When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s order^(AG) and did not set out.^(AH) ²⁰Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lord’s command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out. ²¹Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out.
