Passover
9 The Lord spoke to Moses in the Sinai desert in the first month[a] of the second year after they had left the land of Egypt: 2 Let the Israelites keep the Passover at its appointed time. 3 On the fourteenth day of this month at twilight you will keep it at its appointed time. Keep it according to all its regulations and its customary practices.
4 Moses instructed the Israelites to keep the Passover. 5 At twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month[b] they kept the Passover in the Sinai desert. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.
6 But there were persons who were unclean from contact with a human corpse, and they were unable to keep the Passover on that day. They approached Moses and Aaron that day. 7 These persons said to him, “Although we are unclean from contact with a human corpse, why must we be prohibited from presenting the Lord’s offering at its appointed time with the rest of the Israelites?”
8 Moses said to them, “Wait while I listen for what the Lord will command concerning you.”
9 The Lord spoke to Moses: 10 Tell the Israelites: When any of you or your descendants are unclean from contact with a corpse or are on a long trip, they may still keep the Passover to the Lord. 11 They will keep it at twilight on the fourteenth day of the second month.[c] They will eat the Passover lamb with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12 They must not leave any of it until morning, nor break any of its bones. They will keep the Passover according to all its regulations. 13 But any persons who are clean and not on a trip, yet don’t keep the Passover, those persons will be cut off from their people, because they didn’t present the Lord’s offering at its appointed time. Those persons will bear their sin. 14 If an immigrant resides among you and wishes to keep the Passover to the Lord, that one also will keep it according to its regulations and its customary practices. There will be one set of regulations for both of you, for the immigrant and for the native of the land.
Cloud over the dwelling
15 On the day the dwelling was erected, the cloud covered the dwelling, the covenant tent. At night until morning, the cloud appeared with lightning over the dwelling. 16 It was always there. The cloud covered it by day,[d] appearing with lightning at night. 17 Whenever the cloud ascended from the tent, the Israelites would march. And the Israelites would camp wherever the cloud settled. 18 At the Lord’s command, the Israelites would march, and at the Lord’s command they would camp. As long as the cloud settled on the dwelling, they would camp. 19 When the cloud lingered on the meeting tent for many days, the Israelites would observe the Lord’s direction and they wouldn’t march. 20 Sometimes the cloud would be over the dwelling for a number of days, so they would camp at the Lord’s command, marching again only at the Lord’s command. 21 Sometimes the cloud would settle only overnight, and they would march when the cloud ascended in the morning. Whether it was day or night, they would march when the cloud ascended. 22 Whether it was two days, or a month, or a long time, the Israelites would camp so long as the cloud lingered on the dwelling and settled on it. They wouldn’t march. But when it ascended, they would march. 23 They camped at the Lord’s command and they marched at the Lord’s command. They followed the Lord’s direction according to the Lord’s command through Moses.

9 O Senhor deu estas instruções a Moisés quando ele e todo o povo estavam no deserto de Sinai, durante o primeiro mês do segundo ano, depois da saída do Egito: 2 “O povo de Israel deverá celebrar a Páscoa anualmente 3 no dia 14 deste primeiro mês, começando ao princípio da noite. Procurem seguir estritamente todas as minhas instruções respeitantes a esta celebração.”
4 E Moisés anunciou que a celebração da Páscoa 5 começaria na noite do dia 14, ali no deserto de Sinai, e a celebração fez-se tal como o Senhor ordenara.
6 Contudo, aconteceu que algumas pessoas se encontravam ritualmente impuras, pelo facto de terem tocado num corpo morto; por essa razão, não podiam comer o cordeiro da Páscoa nessa noite. Vieram ter com Moisés e com Aarão, 7 e explicaram-lhes o seu problema, queixando-se de serem impedidos de oferecer os seus sacrifícios ao Senhor na ocasião ordenada por ele.
8 Moisés disse que perguntaria ao Senhor acerca desse assunto. 9 O Senhor disse a Moisés: 10 “Diz aos israelitas: Se algum de vocês, agora ou nas gerações futuras, se tornar impuro na altura da Páscoa, por ter tocado num corpo morto, ou se estiver a viajar e não puder estar presente, pode mesmo assim celebrar a Páscoa; 11 mas fá-lo-á um mês mais tarde, ou seja, no dia 14, mas do segundo mês, começando sempre à noite. Comerão pois o cordeiro nessa altura, com pão sem fermento e com ervas amargas. 12 E nada deixarão para o dia seguinte; tão-pouco quebrarão nenhum osso do animal; deverão seguir todas as instruções acerca da Páscoa. 13 Contudo, se aparecer alguém que não esteja impuro, nem de viagem, e que mesmo assim recuse celebrar a Páscoa no tempo próprio, deverá ser expulso do povo de Israel por se negar a sacrificar ao Senhor na ocasião devida. Deverá pois carregar a sua culpa.
14 Por outro lado, se um estrangeiro, que viva no vosso meio, desejar celebrar a Páscoa ao Senhor, terá de seguir todas estas indicações. Há só uma lei para toda a gente.”
A nuvem por cima do tabernáculo
(Êx 40.34-35)
15 E nessa noite a nuvem cobriu o tabernáculo que guardava o documento da aliança e mudou de aparência. Tornou-se fogo, assim permanecendo através da noite. 16 Aliás ficou a ser sempre assim; de dia era uma nuvem e de noite mudava o seu aspeto para um fogo. 17 Quando a nuvem se levantava e se movia, o povo de Israel deslocava-se até onde ela parasse, e aí acampavam. 18 Desta maneira, caminhavam sempre na direção que o Senhor os mandava e estacionavam onde ele quisesse, permanecendo nesse local tanto tempo quanto a nuvem ali se demorasse. 19 Se ela se mantivesse muito tempo, aí ficavam; 20 se apenas se demorasse uns dias, era pois só por esses dias que o acampamento lá estava. Tinha sido expressamente essa a ordem do Senhor.
21 Por vezes, a nuvem de fogo parava só por uma noite, e logo continuava a mover-se pela manhã seguinte. Contudo, de dia ou de noite, sempre que ela se movia, o povo levantava o acampamento e seguia-a. 22 Ficasse a nuvem sobre o tabernáculo, dois dias, um mês ou um ano esse era o espaço de tempo em que o povo estacionava. Logo que se movia, seguiam-na. 23 Desta forma, acampavam ou viajavam sempre sob o mandado do Senhor. E tudo o que o Senhor dizia a Moisés para fazerem, faziam.

The Passover
9 The Lord spoke to Moses in the Desert of Sinai in the first month(A) of the second year after they came out of Egypt.(B) He said, 2 “Have the Israelites celebrate the Passover(C) at the appointed time.(D) 3 Celebrate it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of this month,(E) in accordance with all its rules and regulations.(F)”
4 So Moses told the Israelites to celebrate the Passover,(G) 5 and they did so in the Desert of Sinai(H) at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month.(I) The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.(J)
6 But some of them could not celebrate the Passover on that day because they were ceremonially unclean(K) on account of a dead body.(L) So they came to Moses and Aaron(M) that same day 7 and said to Moses, “We have become unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be kept from presenting the Lord’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?(N)”
8 Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.”(O)
9 Then the Lord said to Moses, 10 “Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body(P) or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate(Q) the Lord’s Passover, 11 but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month(R) at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.(S) 12 They must not leave any of it till morning(T) or break any of its bones.(U) When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.(V) 13 But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people(W) for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.
14 “‘A foreigner(X) residing among you is also to celebrate the Lord’s Passover in accordance with its rules and regulations. You must have the same regulations for both the foreigner and the native-born.’”
The Cloud Above the Tabernacle
15 On the day the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant law,(Y) was set up,(Z) the cloud(AA) covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire.(AB) 16 That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire.(AC) 17 Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out;(AD) wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.(AE) 18 At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained(AF) in camp. 19 When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s order(AG) and did not set out.(AH) 20 Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lord’s command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out. 21 Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out. 22 Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out. 23 At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses.
