¹⁷ “I see him, but not now;
    I behold him, but not near.^(A)
A star will come out of Jacob;^(B)
    a scepter will rise out of Israel.^(C)
He will crush the foreheads of Moab,^(D)
    the skulls^[a](E) of^[b] all the people of Sheth.^[c]
18 Edom^(F) will be conquered;
    Seir,^(G) his enemy, will be conquered,^(H)
    but Israel^(I) will grow strong.

¹⁴ They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia^(A) to the west;
    together they will plunder the people to the east.^(B)
They will subdue Edom^(C) and Moab,^(D)
    and the Ammonites^(E) will be subject to them.^(F)

“I will restore David’s^(A) fallen shelter^(B)—
    I will repair its broken walls
    and restore its ruins^(C)—
    and will rebuild it as it used to be,^(D)
12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom^(E)
    and all the nations that bear my name,^[a](F)”
declares the Lord, who will do these things.^(G)
