3 Pashhur,(B) Amariah, Malkijah,
4 Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluk,
5 Harim,(C) Meremoth, Obadiah,
6 Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch,
7 Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin,
8 Maaziah, Bilgai and Shemaiah.
These were the priests.(D)
9 The Levites:(E)
Jeshua son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel,
10 and their associates: Shebaniah,
Hodiah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan,
11 Mika, Rehob, Hashabiah,

14 The leaders of the people:
Parosh, Pahath-Moab, Elam, Zattu, Bani,
15 Bunni, Azgad, Bebai,

28 “The rest of the people—priests, Levites, gatekeepers, musicians, temple servants(I) and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples(J) for the sake of the Law of God, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand— 29 all these now join their fellow Israelites the nobles, and bind themselves with a curse and an oath(K) to follow the Law of God given through Moses the servant of God and to obey carefully all the commands, regulations and decrees of the Lord our Lord.
30 “We promise not to give our daughters in marriage to the peoples around us or take their daughters for our sons.(L)
31 “When the neighboring peoples bring merchandise or grain to sell on the Sabbath,(M) we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on any holy day. Every seventh year we will forgo working the land(N) and will cancel all debts.(O)
32 “We assume the responsibility for carrying out the commands to give a third of a shekel[b] each year for the service of the house of our God: 33 for the bread set out on the table;(P) for the regular grain offerings and burnt offerings; for the offerings on the Sabbaths, at the New Moon(Q) feasts and at the appointed festivals; for the holy offerings; for sin offerings[c] to make atonement for Israel; and for all the duties of the house of our God.(R)
34 “We—the priests, the Levites and the people—have cast lots(S) to determine when each of our families is to bring to the house of our God at set times each year a contribution of wood(T) to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the Law.
35 “We also assume responsibility for bringing to the house of the Lord each year the firstfruits(U) of our crops and of every fruit tree.(V)
36 “As it is also written in the Law, we will bring the firstborn(W) of our sons and of our cattle, of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our God, to the priests ministering there.(X)
37 “Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and olive oil.(Y) And we will bring a tithe(Z) of our crops to the Levites,(AA) for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work.(AB) 38 A priest descended from Aaron is to accompany the Levites when they receive the tithes, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of the tithes(AC) up to the house of our God, to the storerooms of the treasury. 39 The people of Israel, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and olive oil to the storerooms, where the articles for the sanctuary and for the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the musicians are also kept.

28 Alle andere mensen, priesters, Levieten, poortwachters, zangers, tempelknechten en alle mensen uit andere volken die zich voortaan aan de wet van God wilden houden, met hun vrouwen en volwassen zonen en dochters, 29 sloten zich aan bij de mannen die het verbond hadden ondertekend. Ze zwoeren dat ze zich aan de hele wet zouden houden die God aan Mozes had gegeven. En ze vervloekten zichzelf als ze zich niet aan hun belofte zouden houden. 30 Verder beloofden we plechtig dat we onze dochters niet zouden laten trouwen met mannen uit andere volken, en dat we voor onze zonen geen vrouwen zouden uitzoeken uit de meisjes van andere volken. 31 Ook beloofden we dat we, wanneer de buitenlandse bewoners van het land op een heilige rustdag of feestdag voedsel of andere dingen zouden komen verkopen, wij niets van hen zouden kopen. En we beloofden dat we elk zevende jaar het land niet zouden bewerken, maar het zouden laten liggen zoals het was.[a] Ook zouden we elk zevende jaar iedereen die nog iets aan een volksgenoot moest terugbetalen, zijn schuld kwijtschelden. 32 Verder beloofden we om elk jaar 1/3 sikkel zilver (4 gram) aan de tempel van de Heer te geven. 33 Dat geld zou zijn voor de heilige broden, de dagelijkse brand-offers en de dagelijkse meel-offers, voor de offers van de heilige rustdagen, van de nieuwe maand, van de feesten van de Heer, van de vrijwillige offers en van de vergevings-offers waarmee Israël vergeving zou krijgen. Het geld zou voor al het werk in de tempel van onze God zijn.
34 We lootten erom wie van het volk, de priesters en de Levieten voor het hout moesten zorgen voor het altaar. Alle families werden ingedeeld in een schema waarop stond wie wanneer het hout moest leveren voor het altaar voor de offers van God. Jaar in jaar uit zou zo iedereen weten wanneer hij aan de beurt was. 35 Ook beloofden we plechtig om elk jaar het eerste deel van de oogst van de akkers en van de fruitbomen naar de tempel van de Heer te brengen. 36 Ook beloofden we onze oudste zonen en de eerstgeboren dieren van ons vee, zoals dat moet van de wet, naar de priesters te brengen die in de tempel van onze God dienst doen. 37 Ook het eerste deel van het meel en van al het fruit, de wijn en de olijf-olie zouden we naar de priesters brengen, naar de voorraadkamers in de tempel. Een tiende deel van de oogst van onze akkers zouden we aan de Levieten geven. En in al onze landbouwsteden zouden de Levieten een tiende deel krijgen van alles wat we oogstten. 38 Een priester, dus een Leviet uit de familie van Aäron, zou met de Levieten meegaan wanneer zij dat tiende deel gingen ophalen. En een tiende deel van alles wat ze zouden ophalen, moest door de Levieten naar de voorraadkamers in de tempel worden gebracht. 39 Van alles wat de Levieten zouden ophalen, moesten ze de Heer een beweeg-offer brengen.[b] Daarna moest het naar de voorraadkamers worden gebracht. Want dat is de plaats waar de Israëlieten en de Levieten de tienden van graan, wijn en olijf-olie moeten brengen. Daar zijn ook de voorwerpen die gebruikt worden voor de dienst in de tempel, en de priesters die dienst doen, de poortwachters en de zangers. We beloofden dat we de tempel van onze God niet zouden verwaarlozen.

The Obligations of the Covenant
28 (I)“The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, (J)and all who have separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who have knowledge and understanding, 29 join with their brothers, their nobles, (K)and enter into a curse and an oath (L)to walk in God's Law that was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord and his rules and his statutes. 30 (M)We will not give our daughters to the peoples of the land or take their daughters for our sons. 31 (N)And if the peoples of the land bring in goods or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day. And we will forgo the crops of the (O)seventh year and the (P)exaction of every debt.
32 “We also take on ourselves the obligation to give yearly (Q)a third part of a shekel[c] for the service of the house of our God: 33 (R)for the showbread, (S)the regular grain offering, (T)the regular burnt offering, the Sabbaths, the new moons, the appointed feasts, the holy things, and the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God. 34 (U)We, the priests, the Levites, and the people, have likewise cast lots (V)for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, according to our fathers' houses, at times appointed, year by year, to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, (W)as it is written in the Law. 35 We obligate ourselves (X)to bring the firstfruits of our ground and the firstfruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord; 36 also to bring to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God, the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, (Y)as it is written in the Law, and the firstborn of our herds and of our flocks; 37 (Z)and to bring the first of our dough, and our contributions, the fruit of every tree, the wine and the oil, to the priests, (AA)to the chambers of the house of our God; and to bring to the Levites the tithes from our ground, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all our towns where we labor. 38 And the priest, the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites when the Levites receive the tithes. And the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers of (AB)the storehouse. 39 For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi (AC)shall bring the contribution of grain, wine, and oil to the chambers, where the vessels of the sanctuary are, as well as the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. (AD)We will not neglect the house of our God.”
