34 Onze koningen, leiders, priesters en voorouders hebben uw geboden niet gehoorzaamd en sloegen uw waarschuwingen in de wind. 35 Ondanks het feit dat U hun dit koninkrijk en nog andere zegeningen had geschonken, hebben zij U niet gediend. U gaf hun een ruim, rijk land, maar zij weigerden zich af te keren van hun kwade praktijken. 36 Nu wonen wij als slaven in dit land vol overvloed dat U onze voorouders hebt gegeven! Als slaven te midden van rijkdom!

34 Our kings,(A) our leaders, our priests and our ancestors(B) did not follow your law; they did not pay attention to your commands or the statutes you warned them to keep. 35 Even while they were in their kingdom, enjoying your great goodness(C) to them in the spacious and fertile land you gave them, they did not serve you(D) or turn from their evil ways.
36 “But see, we are slaves(E) today, slaves in the land you gave our ancestors so they could eat its fruit and the other good things it produces.
