The Proclamation of John the Baptist

3 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, ² “Repent,^[a] for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

⁴ and Ram^[a] the father of Ammin′adab, and Ammin′adab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon,

² in the high-priesthood of Annas and Ca′iaphas,^[a] the word of God came to John the son of Zechari′ah in the wilderness; ³ and he went into all the region about the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

²³ He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”
