⁵ Some seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and soon it sprang up because it did not have deep soil. ⁶ But when the sun rose, it was scorched. And because it had no root, it withered away.

¹⁶ Others, likewise, are seed sown on rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness, ¹⁷ but have no root in themselves, and so endure for a time. Afterward, when affliction or persecution rises for the word’s sake, immediately they fall away.

⁶ Some fell on a rock. And as soon as it sprang up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

¹³ Those on the rock are the ones who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root, for they believe for a while, then in the time of temptation fall away.
