Nabihag ng Lipi nina Juda at Simeon ang Hari ng Bezek
1 Pagkamatay ni Josue, nagtanong kay Yahweh ang mga Israelita, “Sino sa amin ang unang sasalakay sa mga Cananeo?”
2 “Ang lipi ni Juda ang mauuna. Ipapasakop ko sa kanila ang lupain,” sagot ni Yahweh.
3 Sinabi ng mga kabilang sa lipi ni Juda sa mga kabilang sa lipi ni Simeon, “Tulungan ninyo kami sa pagsakop sa lugar na nakalaan para sa amin, at pagkatapos ay tutulungan naman namin kayo sa pagsakop sa lupaing para sa inyo.” Tumulong nga ang lipi ni Simeon. 4 Tinulungan sila ni Yahweh na matalo ang mga Cananeo at ang mga Perezeo. Umabot sa sampung libo ang napatay nila sa Bezek. 5 Doon nila nilabanan ang hari ng Bezek, mga Cananeo at mga Perezeo. 6 Tumakas ang hari ng Bezek ngunit hinabol nila ito, at nang mahuli ay pinutulan ng hinlalaki sa paa't kamay. 7 Sinabi ng hari ng Bezek, “Pitumpung hari na ang naputulan ko ng hinlalaki ng paa't kamay, at pinamulot ng mumo sa ilalim ng aking mesa. Ngayo'y pinagbayad ako ng Diyos sa aking ginawa.” Dinala ito sa Jerusalem at doon namatay.
Nasakop ng Lipi ni Juda ang Jerusalem at Hebron
8 Ang Jerusalem ay sinalakay at nasakop ng lipi ni Juda. Pinatay nila ang mga nakatira roon at sinunog ang lunsod. 9 Pagkatapos, nilabanan naman nila ang mga Cananeo sa mga kaburulan, sa kapatagan at sa disyerto sa katimugan. 10 Sinalakay ng lipi ng Juda ang mga Cananeong nasa Hebron, dating Lunsod ng Arba, at natalo nila sina Sesai, Ahiman at Talmai.
Nasakop ni Otniel ang Debir(A)
11 Mula sa Hebron, sinalakay naman nila ang Debir, ang dating Lunsod ng Sefer. 12 Sinabi ni Caleb, “Ang anak kong si Acsa ay ibibigay ko para maging asawa ng sinumang makakasakop sa Lunsod ng Sefer.” 13 Si Otniel na anak ni Kenaz at pamangkin ni Caleb ang nakasakop sa lunsod, kaya siya ang napangasawa ni Acsa. 14 Nang sila'y ikasal na, inutusan ni Otniel si Acsa[a] na humingi ng bukirin sa kanyang amang si Caleb. Kaya, nagpunta si Acsa kay Caleb. Pagdating doon, tinanong naman siya agad nito kung ano ang kailangan niya. 15 “Bigyan mo po sana ako ng lugar na may tubig. Ang lupang ibinigay mo sa akin ay walang mapagkukunan ng tubig,” sabi ni Acsa. At ibinigay sa kanya ni Caleb ang mga balon sa gawing itaas at ibaba.
Ang mga Tagumpay ng Lipi nina Juda at Benjamin
16 Ang angkan ni Hobab na isang Cineo, na kamag-anak ng biyenan ni Moises, ay sumama sa lipi ni Juda mula sa Jerico, ang Lunsod ng mga Palma, hanggang sa ilang ng Juda, sa timog ng Arad. Nanirahan silang kasama ng mga Amalekita.[b] 17 Ang lipi naman ni Simeon ay tinulungan ng lipi ni Juda sa pagsakop sa Lunsod ng Sefat. Winasak nila ito nang husto at pinangalanang Horma.[c] 18 Nasakop din nila ang buong Gaza, Ashkelon at Ekron. 19 Tinulungan ni Yahweh ang Juda, kaya't nasakop nila ang mga kaburulan. Ngunit hindi nila nasakop ang mga nasa kapatagan sapagkat ang mga tagaroon ay may mga karwaheng bakal. 20 At(B) tulad ng sinabi ni Moises, ibinigay nga kay Caleb ang Hebron. Pinalayas niya roon ang tatlong anak ni Anac. 21 Ang(C) mga Jebuseo namang naninirahan sa Jerusalem ay hindi pinaalis ng lipi ni Benjamin, kaya hanggang ngayo'y kasama nilang naninirahan doon ang mga ito.
Sinakop ng mga Lipi ni Jose ang Bethel
22-23 Ang lunsod naman ng Bethel na dating Luz ay sinalakay ng mga lipi ni Jose at tinulungan din sila ni Yahweh. Nagpadala muna sila roon ng mga espiya. 24 Sa daan ay may nasalubong silang isang tao mula sa lunsod. Sinabi nila rito, “Ituro mo sa amin ang pagpasok sa lunsod at gagantimpalaan ka namin.” 25 Itinuro naman nito sa kanila, at pinatay nila ang mga tagaroon maliban sa lalaking napagtanungan nila pati ang pamilya nito. 26 Pagkatapos, ang lalaking iyon ay nagpunta sa lupain ng mga Heteo at nagtayo ng isang lunsod na hanggang ngayo'y tinatawag na Luz.
Hindi Pinaalis ng mga Israelita ang mga Cananeo
27 Hindi(D) pinaalis ng lipi ni Manases ang mga naninirahan sa mga lunsod ng Beth-sean, Taanac, Dor, Ibleam, Megido at sa mga nayong sakop ng mga ito. Kaya't nanatili roon ang mga Cananeo. 28 Subalit nang maging mas makapangyarihan ang mga Israelita, hindi na nila lubusang pinaalis ang mga Cananeo ngunit sapilitan nilang pinagtrabaho ang mga ito bilang alipin.
29 Hindi(E) rin pinaalis ng lipi ni Efraim ang mga Cananeo sa lunsod ng Gezer. Sila'y sama-samang nanirahan doon.
30 Hindi pinaalis ng lipi ni Zebulun ang mga naninirahan sa mga lunsod ng Kitron at Nahalol. Sama-sama silang nanirahan doon, subalit sapilitan nilang pinagtatrabaho ang mga ito bilang mga alipin.
31 Hindi rin pinaalis ng lipi ni Asher ang mga taga-lunsod ng Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Aczib, Helba, Afec at Rehob. 32 Sama-sama silang nanirahan doon.
33 Hindi rin pinaalis ng lipi ni Neftali ang mga taga-Beth-semes at Beth-anat. Sila'y sama-samang nanirahan doon ngunit inalipin nila ang mga tagaroon.
34 Ang lipi naman ni Dan ay napaurong ng mga Amoreo papuntang bulubundukin. Hindi sila pinayagan ng mga Amoreo na makapanirahan sa kapatagan, sa halip ay itinaboy sila sa kaburulan. 35 Hindi umalis sa Heres, Ayalon at Saalbim ang mga Amoreo, ngunit dumating ang araw na nasakop sila ng mga lipi ni Jose at inalipin sila ng mga ito. 36 Ang sakop ng mga Amoreo ay mula sa Pasong Alakdan hanggang sa Petra.

1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
16 And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
19 And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the Lord was with them.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
33 Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.
34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
