Herodes låter avrätta Johannes döparen
14 När kung Herodes hörde vad man berättade om Jesus
2 sa han till sina män: Det måste vara Johannes döparen, som har kommit tillbaka från de döda. Det är därför han kan göra dessa under.
3 Herodes hade nämligen arresterat Johannes och kastat honom i fängelse därför att Herodias, hans älskarinna, ville det. Hon var egentligen gift med hans bror Filippos,
4 och Johannes hade sagt att det var fel av Herodes att leva ihop med henne.
5 Helst av allt skulle Herodes ha velat döda Johannes, men han var rädd att det då skulle bli upplopp eftersom alla människor trodde att Johannes var en profet.
6 När så Herodes hade sin födelsedag dansade Herodias dotter inför gästerna. Hennes dans behagade Herodes så till den grad
7 att han lovade att ge henne vad hon än begärde.
8 Hennes mor viskade då till henne: Be om Johannes döparens huvud på en bricka.
9 Kungen blev förskräckt, men på grund av sitt löfte och eftersom han inte ville ta tillbaka det inför gästerna gav han order om att hon skulle få det.
10 Därför halshöggs Johannes i fängelset,
11 och man lade huvudet på en bricka och gav det till flickan och hon bar det till sin mor.
12 Sedan kom Johannes lärjungar för att hämta kroppen och begrava den, och de gick till Jesus för att berätta vad som hänt.
Jesus ger mat åt fem tusen
13 När Jesus fick höra nyheten for han iväg med en båt till en avlägsen plats för att vara för sig själv. Men folkskarorna såg vart han var på väg, och från många byar följde man efter honom till fots.
14 När Jesus steg ur båten väntade en stor folkmassa på honom, och han fylldes av medlidande med dem och botade dem som var sjuka.
15 När det blev kväll kom lärjungarna till honom och sa: Det är dags för kvällsmat för länge sedan, och det finns inget att äta här i öknen. Skicka iväg folket, så att de kan gå till byarna runt om och köpa mat.
16 Men Jesus svarade: Det behövs inte, ni kan väl ge dem mat!
17 Kan vi?, utropade de. Vi har bara fem brödstycken och två fiskar!
18 Ta hit dem, sa han.
19 Sedan bad han människorna att sätta sig i gräset. Och han tog de fem brödstyckena och de två fiskarna, såg upp mot himlen och tackade Gud för dem. Sedan bröt han itu brödstyckena och gav dem till lärjungarna, och de delade ut dem till folket.
20 Och alla åt tills de blev mätta. Och när man till slut samlade ihop det som var över blev det tolv fulla korgar.
21 Det var omkring fem tusen män i folkskaran den dagen, förutom kvinnor och barn.
Jesus går på vattnet
22 Omedelbart därefter bad Jesus lärjungarna att sätta sig i båten och fara över till andra sidan sjön. Själv stannade han kvar för att se till att folket gick hem.
23-24 Sedan gick han upp på ett berg för att be. Så blev det natt, och ute på sjön råkade lärjungarna i svårigheter. Det blåste upp, och de hade all möda att se till så att båten inte kantrade.
25 Omkring klockan fyra på morgonen kom Jesus till dem, gående på vattnet!
26 De skrek av skräck, för de trodde det var ett spöke.
27 Men Jesus talade genast till dem och sa: Var inte rädda! Det är jag!
28 Då ropade Petrus till honom: Herre, om det verkligen är du, så låt mig få komma till dig på vattnet.
29 Javisst, sa Jesus. Kom!Petrus klev då över båtkanten och började gå på vattnet mot Jesus.
30 Men när han såg de höga vågorna blev han rädd och började sjunka.Rädda mig, Herre! skrek han.
31 Genast räckte Jesus ut handen och tog tag i honom. Är din tro så liten, sa Jesus, varför tvivlade du?
32 Och när de klivit i båten lade sig vinden.
33 Och de andra som satt där i båten föll då ner för honom och sa: Du måste vara Guds Son!
Jesus botar alla som rör vid honom
34 De for sedan över sjön och gick i land vid Gennesaret.
35 Nyheten om deras ankomst spred sig som en löpeld, och man rusade runt och uppmanade alla att komma och ta med sig sina sjuka så att de kunde bli botade.
36 Och de sjuka bad honom om att de åtminstone skulle få röra vid hans kläder, och alla som gjorde det blev friska.

4 Paske Jan te di Ewòd konsa: Ou pa gen dwa pran Ewodyad pou madanm ou.

14 At that season Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus, 2 and said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore do these powers work in him. 3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. 4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. 5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. 6 But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod. 7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she should ask. 8 And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist. 9 And the king was grieved; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat with him, he commanded it to be given; 10 and he sent and beheaded John in the prison. 11 And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came, and took up the corpse, and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.
13 Now when Jesus heard it, he withdrew from thence in a boat, to a desert place apart: and when the multitudes heard thereof, they followed him [a]on foot from the cities. 14 And he came forth, and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick. 15 And when even was come, the disciples came to him, saying, The place is desert, and the time is already past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food. 16 But Jesus said unto them, They have no need to go away; give ye them to eat. 17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. 18 And he said, Bring them hither to me. 19 And he commanded the multitudes to [b]sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. 20 And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 21 And they that did eat were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 And straightway he constrained the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side, till he should send the multitudes away. 23 And after he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when even was come, he was there alone. 24 But the boat [c]was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves; for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a ghost; and they cried out for fear. 27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee upon the waters. 29 And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters [d]to come to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the [e]wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and took hold of him, and saith unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were gone up into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And they that were in the boat [f]worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
34 And when they had crossed over, they came to the land, unto Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place knew him, they sent into all that region round about, and brought unto him all that were sick; 36 and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole.
