⁵Then people from Jerusalem,^[a] as well as all Judea and all the region around the Jordan, were going out to him,

Matthew 3:5 tn Grk “Then Jerusalem.” In the Greek text the city (Jerusalem) is put by metonymy for its inhabitants (see E. W. Bullinger, Figures of Speech, 579).

⁵Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

⁵Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan were going out to him,

⁵People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan.
