10 Les disciples lui demandèrent alors : Pourquoi donc les spécialistes de la Loi disent-ils qu’Elie doit venir d’abord ?
11 Il leur répondit : Effectivement, Elie doit venir remettre toutes choses en ordre. 12 Or, je vous le déclare : Elie est déjà venu, mais ils ne l’ont pas reconnu. Au contraire, ils l’ont traité comme ils ont voulu. Et c’est le même traitement que va subir de leur part le Fils de l’homme.
13 Les disciples comprirent alors qu’il parlait de Jean-Baptiste.

10 The disciples asked him, “Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.(A) 12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come,(B) and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished.(C) In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer(D) at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.(E)
