¹⁸ He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time^(A) is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’”

²⁰ When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

¹⁶ As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

²³ So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables:^(A) “How can Satan^(B) drive out Satan?

³⁸ Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

³⁶ When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.

⁴⁰ Then Jesus went back across the Jordan^(A) to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed,
