Jesús es tentado
4 (A)Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto para ser tentado por el diablo. 2 Y después de haber ayunado cuarenta días y cuarenta noches(B), entonces[a] tuvo hambre. 3 Y acercándose el tentador(C), le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios(D), di que estas piedras se conviertan en pan[b]. 4 Pero Él respondiendo, dijo: Escrito está: «No solo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios(E)». 5 Entonces el diablo le llevó* a la ciudad santa(F), y le puso sobre el pináculo del templo, 6 y le dijo*: Si eres Hijo de Dios, lánzate abajo, pues escrito está:
«A sus Ángeles te encomendará»,
y:
«En las manos te llevarán,
no sea que tu pie tropiece en piedra(G)».
7 Jesús le dijo: También está escrito: «No tentarás[c] al Señor tu Dios(H)». 8 Otra vez el diablo le llevó* a un monte muy alto, y le mostró* todos los reinos del mundo(I) y la gloria de ellos, 9 y le dijo: Todo esto te daré, si postrándote me adoras(J). 10 Entonces Jesús le dijo*: ¡Vete, Satanás! Porque escrito está: «Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y solo a Él servirás[d](K)». 11 El diablo entonces le dejó*; y he aquí, ángeles vinieron y le servían(L).
Jesús va a Galilea
12 Cuando Él oyó que Juan había sido encarcelado[e](M), se retiró a Galilea(N); 13 y saliendo de Nazaret, fue y se estableció en Capernaúm(O), que está junto al mar, en la región de Zabulón y de Neftalí; 14 para que se cumpliera lo dicho por medio del profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:
15 ¡Tierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí,
camino del mar[f], al otro lado del Jordán, Galilea de los gentiles[g](P)!
16 El pueblo asentado en tinieblas vio una gran luz,
y a los que vivian[h] en región y sombra de muerte,
una luz les resplandeció[i](Q).
17 Desde entonces Jesús comenzó a predicar[j](R) y a decir: Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado(S).
Llamamiento de los primeros discípulos
18 (T)Y andando junto al mar de Galilea(U), vio a dos hermanos, Simón, llamado Pedro(V), y Andrés su hermano, echando una red al mar, porque eran pescadores. 19 Y les dijo*: Seguidme[k], y yo os haré pescadores de hombres. 20 Entonces ellos, dejando al instante las redes, le siguieron. 21 Y pasando de allí, vio a otros dos hermanos, Jacobo[l](W), hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan[m] su hermano, en la barca con su padre Zebedeo, remendando sus redes, y los llamó. 22 Y ellos, dejando al instante la barca y a su padre, le siguieron.
La fama de Jesús se extiende
23 Y Jesús iba por toda Galilea(X), enseñando(Y) en sus sinagogas y proclamando(Z) el evangelio del reino, y sanando(AA) toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo. 24 Y se extendió su fama por toda Siria(AB); y traían a Él todos los que estaban enfermos, afectados con diversas enfermedades y dolores, endemoniados(AC), epilépticos[n](AD) y paralíticos(AE); y Él los sanaba. 25 Y le siguieron grandes multitudes(AF) de Galilea, Decápolis(AG), Jerusalén y Judea, y del otro lado del Jordán(AH).

The Temptation of Jesus
4 Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil, 2 and after he[a] had fasted forty days and forty nights, then he was hungry. 3 And the tempter approached and[b] said to him, “If you are the Son of God, order that these stones become bread.” 4 But he answered and[c] said, “It is written, ‘Man will not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.”[d]
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city[e] and placed him on the highest point of the temple 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down! For it is written,
‘He will command his angels concerning you,’[f]
and
‘On their hands they will lift you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”[g]
7 Jesus said to him, “On the other hand it is written, ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”[h]
8 Again the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, 9 and he said to him, “I will give to you all these things, if you will fall down and[i] worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Go away, Satan, for it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”[j] 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and began ministering to him.
Public Ministry in Galilee
12 Now when he[k] heard that John had been arrested,[l] he withdrew into Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth, he went and[m] lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 in order that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said,
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
toward the sea,[n] on the other side of the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles[o]—
16 the people who sit in darkness
have seen a great light,
and the ones who sit in the land and shadow of death,
a light has dawned on them.”[p]
17 From that time on, Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is near.”
Jesus Calls His First Disciples
18 Now as he[q] was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew, throwing a casting net into the sea (for they were fishermen). 19 And he said to them, “Follow me[r] and I will make you fishers of people.” 20 And immediately they left their nets and[s] followed him. 21 And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 And immediately they left the boat and their father and[t] followed him.
Teaching, Preaching, and Healing throughout Galilee
23 And he went around through all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. 24 And a report about him went out throughout[u] Syria, and they brought to him all those who were sick[v] with various diseases and afflicted by torments, demon-possessed[w] and epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them. 25 And large crowds followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from the other side of the Jordan.
