Traditions and Commandments
7 (A)Now when the Pharisees gathered to him, with some of the scribes (B)who had come from Jerusalem, 2 they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were (C)defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands properly,[a] holding to (D)the tradition of (E)the elders, 4 and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash.[b] And there are many other traditions that they observe, such as (F)the washing of (G)cups and pots and copper vessels and dining couches.[c]) 5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to (H)the tradition of (I)the elders, (J)but eat with (K)defiled hands?” 6 And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you (L)hypocrites, as it is written,
(M)“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
7 in vain do they worship me,
teaching as (N)doctrines the commandments of men.’
8 You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”
9 And he said to them, “You have a fine way of (O)rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! 10 For Moses said, (P)‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, (Q)‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)[d]— 12 then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, 13 thus (R)making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
What Defiles a Person
14 And he called the people to him again and said to them, (S)“Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 (T)There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”[e] 17 And when he had entered (U)the house and left the people, (V)his disciples asked him about the parable. 18 And he said to them, “Then (W)are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters not his heart (X)but his stomach, and is expelled?”[f] ((Y)Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20 And he said, (Z)“What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, (AA)murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, (AB)sensuality, (AC)envy, (AD)slander, (AE)pride, (AF)foolishness. 23 (AG)All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
The Syrophoenician Woman's Faith
24 And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon.[g] And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. 25 But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. 26 (AH)Now the woman was a (AI)Gentile, (AJ)a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And he said to her, “Let the children be (AK)fed first, for it is not right to take the children's bread and (AL)throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's (AM)crumbs.” 29 And he said to her, “For this statement you may (AN)go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” 30 And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf Man
31 (AO)Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to (AP)the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the (AQ)Decapolis. 32 And they brought to him (AR)a man who was deaf and (AS)had a speech impediment, and they begged him to (AT)lay his hand on him. 33 And (AU)taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and (AV)after spitting touched his tongue. 34 And (AW)looking up to heaven, (AX)he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 (AY)And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36 And (AZ)Jesus[h] charged them to tell no one. But (BA)the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 And they were (BB)astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

7 Có mấy người Pha-ri-si và các giáo sư Kinh Luật từ Giê-ru-sa-lem xuống, họp nhau cùng đến gặp Đức Giê-su. 2 Họ thấy vài môn đệ của Ngài dùng bữa nhưng tay không thanh sạch, nghĩa là không rửa tay trước khi ăn. 3 (Người Pha-ri-si và cả dân Do Thái đều không ăn nếu không rửa tay theo tục lệ cổ truyền. 4 Khi ở chợ về, nếu không nhúng hẳn tay vào nước theo lệ thanh sạch, họ cũng không ăn. Họ còn giữ nhiều tục lệ khác như thanh tẩy chén bát, bình đất và đồ đồng.) 5 Nên người Pha-ri-si và các giáo sư Kinh Luật chất vấn Ngài: “Tại sao môn-đệ Thầy không giữ lệ của người xưa, dùng tay không thanh sạch mà ăn như thế?”
6 Ngài đáp: “I-sa đã nói tiên tri rất đúng về các ông, những kẻ đạo đức giả rằng:
‘Dân này tôn kính Ta bằng môi miệng
Nhưng lòng chúng nó xa cách Ta.
7 Họ thờ phượng Ta thật vô ích,
Dạy giới luật con người như là giáo lý,’
8 Gạt bỏ điều răn của Đức Chúa Trời
Để giữ tục lệ của loài người.”[a]
9 Ngài còn thêm rằng: “Các ông đã khéo léo gạt bỏ điều răn của Đức Chúa Trời để giữ tục lệ của mình, 10 vì Môi-se đã nói: ‘Hãy hiếu kính cha mẹ ngươi’[b] và ‘ai nguyền rủa cha mẹ thì phải bị xử tử,’[c] 11 nhưng các ông lại bảo: ‘Một người thưa với cha mẹ rằng những gì mình có để phụng dưỡng cha mẹ thì đã kể là co-ban’ (nghĩa là đã dâng cho Đức Chúa Trời). 12 Các ông không còn cho người ấy báo hiếu cha mẹ nữa. 13 Vì giữ các tục lệ cổ truyền, các ông đã làm cho đạo của Đức Chúa Trời trở thành vô hiệu. Các ông còn làm nhiều điều tương tự khác nữa.”
Ô Uế Và Tinh Sạch(B)
14 Sau đó Ngài lại gọi dân chúng đến và phán dạy: “Hết thảy hãy lắng nghe Ta và tìm hiểu: 15 Người ta bị ô uế không phải vì những gì từ ngoài vào, nhưng những gì từ trong ra mới làm cho người ô uế. 16 Nếu ai có tai để nghe, hãy lắng nghe.”[d]
17 Khi Ngài rời khỏi đám đông và vào trong nhà, môn đệ hỏi Ngài về ngụ ngôn ấy. 18 Ngài bảo họ: “Đến các con mà cũng không hiểu được à? Sao các con chẳng biết rằng không vật gì từ ngoài vào có thể làm ô uế con người được. 19 Vì nó không vào trong tâm hồn người ta, chỉ xuống bụng rồi bài tiết ra nơi kín đáo.” Như vậy Chúa tuyên bố tất cả thực phẩm đều thanh sạch.
20 Ngài lại tiếp: “Chính điều phát xuất từ tâm địa mới làm cho người bị ô uế, 21 vì từ bên trong, vì từ tâm hồn con người mà ra những ác tưởng, gian dâm, trộm cắp, sát nhân, 22 ngoại tình, tham lam, độc ác, lừa dối, phóng đãng, ganh ghét, phỉ báng, kiêu căng, ngông cuồng. 23 Tất cả những việc xấu xa này đều phát xuất từ bên trong và làm ô uế con người.”
Người Đàn Bà Ca-na-an(C)
24 Sau đó, Ngài rời nơi ấy để vào miền Ty-rơ. Ngài vào một ngôi nhà, không muốn cho ai biết, nhưng không sao giấu được. 25 Vừa nghe Ngài đến, một người đàn bà có con gái nhỏ bị tà linh ám đến quỳ dưới chân Ngài. 26 Bà là người Hy Lạp thuộc sắc dân Sy-ri Phê-ni-xi. Bà van xin Ngài đuổi quỷ ra khỏi con gái mình.
27 Ngài bảo bà rằng: “Hãy để con cái ăn no nê đã, vì không lẽ lấy bánh của con mà ném cho chó con.”
28 Bà thưa: “Lạy Chúa, đúng như vậy, nhưng chó con dưới bàn ăn những miếng bánh vụn của con cái.”
29 Chúa bảo bà: “Bà đã nói thế thì hãy về đi, quỷ đã ra khỏi con gái bà rồi.”
30 Về đến nhà, bà thấy con gái mình đang nằm trên giường và quỷ đã ra khỏi.
Đức Giê-su Chữa Người Điếc Và Ngọng
31 Đức Giê-su lại rời thành phố miền Ty-rơ đi ngang qua thành Sy-đôn hướng đến vùng biển Ga-li-lê để vào miền Mười Thành. 32 Người ta đem đến cho Ngài một người điếc và ngọng, nài xin Ngài đặt tay chữa trị.
33 Ngài dắt anh ấy ra khỏi đám đông rồi đặt ngón tay vào lỗ tai và nhổ nước miếng thấm vào lưỡi anh. 34 Ngài ngước mắt lên trời, thở dài và bảo người: “Ép-pha-ta!” Nghĩa là: “Hãy mở ra.” 35 Tức thì tai anh mở ra, lưỡi được thong thả và anh nói rõ ràng.
36 Ngài cấm dân chúng không được thuật chuyện đó với ai, nhưng Ngài càng cấm họ lại càng đồn ra. 37 Dân chúng vô cùng ngạc nhiên và nói: “Ngài làm điều gì cũng tốt lành, khiến cả kẻ điếc nghe và người câm nói được.”

Guds bud og menneskelige regler
7 En dag kom noen fariseere[a] og skriftlærde[b] fra Jerusalem for å stille spørsmål til Jesus. 2 De la merke til at flere av disiplene spiste brød uten først å ha vasket hendene. 3 Jødene, og særlig fariseerne, følger spesielle regler som de har arvet fra forfedrene. De spiser aldri uten først å ha vasket hendene. 4 Når de kommer hjem fra markedsplassen, må de alltid vaske seg før de rører noe mat. Det finnes også mange andre tradisjoner som de er nøye med å følge, som for eksempel å skylle krus, kar og kobberkjeler.
5 Fariseerne og de skriftlærde spurte derfor Jesus: ”Hvorfor holder ikke disiplene dine seg til våre gamle jødiske regler? De spiser jo uten først å ha vasket hendene.”
6 Jesus svarte: ”Dere er falske mennesker som bare later som om dere er lydige mot Gud! Profeten Jesaja hadde rett da han bar fram Guds budskap om dere og sa:
’Dette folket ærer meg med ordene sine,
men de nekter å være lydige mot meg.
7 Deres tilbedelse er verdiløs,
for det de lærer,
er menneskelige regler og ikke Guds bud.’[c]
8-9 Ja, dere bryr dere ikke om Guds bud og erstatter dem med egne menneskelige regler. Syns dere det er en god måte å følge Guds bud på?
10 Moses ga dere for eksempel disse budene fra Gud: ’Vis respekt for foreldrene dine’, og: ’Den som forbanner foreldrene sine, skal bli dømt til døden.’[d] 11-12 Dere påstår at dere slett ikke trenger å respektere foreldrene deres, eller ta hånd om dem når de blir gamle, dersom dere bare i stedet gir pengene som foreldrene skulle hatt, som en gave til templet. 13 Da gjør dere Guds konkrete befaling ugyldig ved å følge egne tradisjoner. Dette er bare ett av eksemplene. Det finnes mange, mange flere.”
14 Jesus kalte folket til seg og sa: ”Hør alle sammen og forsøk å forstå det jeg sier. 15 Dere blir ikke uverdige innfor Gud på grunn av det dere spiser og stapper i munnen.[e] Det er ordene deres, tankene og handlingene, det som springer ut fra dere, som gjør at dere blir uverdige.”[f]
17 Da Jesus hadde forlatt folkemassen og var kommet hjem igjen, spurte disiplene hva han mente med det han nettopp hadde sagt.
18 ”Forstår heller ikke dere det?” spurte han. ”Innser dere ikke at det dere spiser, aldri kan gjøre dere uverdige innfor Gud? 19 Maten har ikke noe med forholdet til Gud å gjøre, den passerer bare gjennom magen og kommer ut igjen.” På denne måten forklarte Jesus at all mat er godkjent av Gud og tillatt å spise.
20 Og han la til: ”Det som gjør et menneske uverdig innfor Gud, er det som springer ut fra menneskets indre, fra hjertet. 21 Fra hjertet kommer onde tanker, seksuell løssluppenhet, tyveri, mord, utroskap i ekteskapet, egoisme, 22 ondskap, bedrageri, et vilt og umoralsk liv, misunnelse, sladder, hovmod og all annen uforstand. 23 Alt dette kommer innefra, og det er det som gjør et menneske uverdig innfor Gud.”
Troen hos en kvinne som ikke er jøde
24 Jesus dro nå fra Galilea og gikk til distriktet ved byen Tyrus[g]. Der fant han et hus å innlosjere seg i. Han forsøkte å holde hemmelig at han var kommet, men det var umulig. 25 En mor med en datter som var besatt av en ond Ånd, fikk høre om ham og oppsøkte ham straks. Kvinnen kastet seg ned for føttene til Jesus. 26 Hun ba om at han måtte sette jenta fri fra den onde ånden.
Denne kvinnen var ikke jøde, men kom fra distriktet bortenfor. 27 Jesus sa derfor til henne: ”Først må jeg hjelpe mine egne barn som er jødene. Det er ikke rett å ta brødet fra barna og kaste det til hundene.”[h]
28 Hun svarte: ”Det er sant, Herre, men til og med hundene som ligger under bordet, får spise de smulene som barna lar ligge igjen.”
29 ”Svaret ditt viser hvor sterk tro du har”, sa han. ”Gå hjem, for den onde ånden har forlatt datteren din!”
30 Da hun kom hjem, lå jenta rolig i sengen, og den onde ånden var borte.
Jesus helbreder en døvstum
31 Fra Tyrus gikk Jesus videre til byen Sidon, og derfra tilbake til Genesaretsjøen om Dekapolis[i]. 32 Der kom noen til han med en døv mann, som også hadde vanskelig for å snakke. De ba at Jesus måtte legge hendene på ham og helbrede ham.
33 Jesus førte ham da litt unna folkemassen, satte fingrene i ørene hans, tok spytt og rørte ved tungen hans. 34 Jesus så opp mot himmelen, sukket dypt og sa: ”Effata![j]” som betyr: Lukk deg opp! 35 Straks kunne mannen høre helt perfekt, og han snakket klart og tydelig.
36 Jesus forbød folket å fortelle om det som hadde skjedd. Men jo mer han nektet, desto mer spredde de nyheten vidt og bredt. 37 De syntes det var så helt utrolig, og de sa: ”Alt han gjør, er helt fantastisk! Han får til og med de døve til høre og de stumme til å snakke.”

- 7:31 ”Området for de ti byene”, eller ”Dekapolis” som det het på gresk, var et byfellesskap mellom ti byer, som alle bortsett fra en, lå øst for elven Jordan.
- 7:34 ”Effata” er arameisk, et av de språkene som ble snakket i Israel på denne tiden, og var sannsynligvis Jesus og disiplene hans sitt morsmål. Kanskje kunne de for øvrig hebraisk og gresk.

That Which Defiles(A)
7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(B) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(C) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])(D)
5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(E) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’[b](F)
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(G)
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions!(H) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d](I) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e](J) 11 But you say(K) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(L) by your tradition(M) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f]
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(N) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(O) clean.)(P)
20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(Q) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(R)
24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g](S) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(T) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(U)
31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(V) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(W) and into the region of the Decapolis.[h](X) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(Y) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(Z) him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(AA) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(AB) and with a deep sigh(AC) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(AD)
36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(AE) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
