Jézus a házasságról és a válásról(A)
10 Jézus ezután továbbment Júdea vidékére, a Jordán folyó másik oldalára. Ismét nagy tömeg gyűlt köré, és szokása szerint tanította őket.
2 Odajött hozzá néhány farizeus is, akik próbára akarták tenni, ezért megkérdezték tőle: „Megengedi-e a Törvény, hogy a férj elváljon a feleségétől?”
3 Jézus azonban ezt kérdezte: „Mit parancsolt nektek Mózes?”
4 „Mózes megengedte a férjnek, hogy válólevelet írjon, és elváljon a feleségétől”[a] — válaszolták.
5 Jézus erre így felelt: „Mózes csak a szívetek keménysége miatt adta ezt a törvényt. 6 De amikor Isten megteremtette a világot, az embert férfivá és nővé teremtette.[b] 7 »Ezért a férfi elhagyja apját és anyját, ragaszkodik a feleségéhez, 8 és ketten egy testté válnak.«[c] Ezután tehát már nem kettő, hanem egy. 9 Amit Isten tett eggyé, azt ember ne válassza szét!”
10 Később, amikor ismét együtt voltak a házban, a tanítványok tovább kérdezték őt erről. 11 Jézus ezt mondta: „Az a férfi, aki elválik a feleségétől, és mást vesz feleségül, házasságtörést követ el az első felesége ellen. 12 Az a feleség, aki elválik a férjétől, és összeházasodik egy másik férfival, szintén házasságtörést követ el.”
Megáldja a gyermekeket(B)
13 Az emberek odavitték Jézushoz a kisgyerekeiket, hogy tegye rájuk a kezét. A tanítványok azonban rájuk szóltak, és el akarták őket küldeni. 14 Amikor Jézus ezt meglátta, megharagudott, és rászólt a tanítványaira: „Engedjétek hozzám jönni a gyerekeket, mert Isten Királysága olyanoké, akik hozzájuk hasonlítanak! 15 Igazán mondom nektek: aki nem úgy fogadja Isten Királyságát, mint a gyerekek, az soha nem jut be oda.” 16 Ezután egyenként a karjába vette a gyerekeket, rájuk tette a kezét, és megáldotta őket.
A gazdagok nehezen jutnak be Isten Királyságába(C)
17 Jézus már útnak indult, amikor egy férfi odafutott hozzá, térdre borult előtte, és megkérdezte: „Jó Mester! Mit kell tennem, hogy örök életet kapjak?”
18 Jézus így válaszolt: „Miért mondasz engem jónak? Egyedül csak Isten jó. 19 Ismered a Törvény parancsait: Ne gyilkolj! Ne kövess el házasságtörést! Ne lopj! Ne tanúskodj hamisan! Ne csalj! Tiszteld apádat és anyádat!”[d]
20 A férfi erre így válaszolt: „Mester, én mindezt megtartottam gyerekkorom óta.”
21 Jézus rátekintett, megkedvelte, és ezt mondta: „Még egy dolog van, amit meg kell tenned. Menj, add el minden vagyonodat, és amit érte kapsz, oszd szét a szegények között! Akkor majd a Mennyben lesz a kincsed. Azután gyere, és kövess engem!”
22 Erre a válaszra a férfi arca elkomorult, és szomorúan elment, mert nagyon gazdag volt.
23 Jézus ekkor végignézett a tanítványain, és ezt mondta nekik: „Milyen nehezen jutnak be Isten Királyságába a gazdagok!”
24 A tanítványok nagyon megdöbbentek ezen. Ő azonban megerősítette: „Gyermekeim, látjátok, milyen nehéz bemenni Isten Királyságába! 25 Még egy tevének is könnyebb átmenni a varrótű fokán, mint egy gazdagnak bejutni Isten Királyságába.”
26 Ezen még jobban elcsodálkoztak, és egymás között azon tanakodtak: „Akkor egyáltalán ki kaphat örök életet?”
27 Jézus rájuk nézett, és ezt válaszolta: „Az emberek számára ez valóban lehetetlen, de Isten számára nem, mert neki minden lehetséges.”
28 Péter ekkor azt mondta: „Látod, mi mindent elhagytunk, hogy kövessünk téged.”
29 Jézus így felelt: „Igazán mondom nektek: mindenki, aki értem és az örömhírért elhagyta otthonát, testvéreit, apját, anyját, gyerekeit, szántóföldjét, 30 az százszor annyit kap vissza még ebben a világban: otthont, testvért, anyát, gyermekeket, szántóföldeket. Ugyanakkor üldözésben is része lesz, a következő korszakban pedig örök életet kap. 31 Sokan, akik most az első helyeket foglalják el, akkor majd az utolsók lesznek. Ugyanakkor sokan, akik most az utolsó helyeken vannak, akkor majd az első helyekre kerülnek.”
Jézus előre jelzi a halálát és feltámadását(D)
32 Jézus vezetésével elindultak Jeruzsálem felé. A tanítványok megrettenve követték, és a többiek is féltek. Útközben Jézus ismét félrehívta a tizenkettőt, és arról beszélt nekik, hogy mi fog vele történni: 33 „Látjátok, most felmegyünk Jeruzsálembe. Ott az Emberfiát majd átadják a főpapoknak és a törvénytanítóknak. Ők halálra fogják ítélni, majd átadják az idegenek kezébe. 34 Azok kigúnyolják, leköpik, megkorbácsolják, és végül megölik. Három nappal később azonban fel fog támadni.”
Ki ülhet Jézus jobb és bal oldalán?(E)
35 Jakab és János — Zebedeus fiai — Jézushoz fordultak: „Mester, szeretnénk kérni tőled valamit.”
36 „Mit kívántok?” — kérdezte ő.
37 „Add meg nekünk, hogy egyikünk a jobb, a másikunk pedig a bal oldaladon ülhessen, amikor majd dicsőségesen uralkodni fogsz!” — mondták a testvérek.
38 Jézus így válaszolt nekik: „Nem tudjátok, mit kértek. Képesek vagytok-e kiinni azt a poharat[e], amelyet nekem ki kell innom? Be tudtok-e merítkezni azzal a bemerítkezéssel, amellyel nekem kell bemerítkeznem?”[f]
39 A testvérek így válaszoltak: „Igen, meg tudjuk tenni.”
Jézus azt felelte: „Igaz, valóban inni fogtok abból a pohárból, amelyet nekem ki kell innom, és ti is be fogtok merítkezni azzal a bemerítkezéssel, amellyel nekem kell bemerítkeznem. 40 Azt azonban nem én döntöm el, hogy ki ül majd a jobb vagy bal oldalamon. Ezeket a helyeket azok kapják, akiknek a számára Isten elkészítette.”
41 Amikor a másik tíz tanítvány meghallotta, hogy Jakab és János mit kért, megharagudtak rájuk. 42 Ekkor Jézus odahívta őket, és ezt mondta: „Jól tudjátok, hogy az Izráelen kívüli népek uralkodói zsarnokoskodnak az alattvalóik felett, és az előkelők visszaélnek a hatalmukkal. 43 Közöttetek azonban ne így legyen! Éppen ellenkezőleg: aki közületek nagy akar lenni, legyen szolgája a többieknek! 44 Aki pedig az első akar lenni köztetek, az legyen a többiek rabszolgája! 45 Így van ez az Emberfiával is. Ő sem azért jött a Földre, hogy neki szolgáljanak, hanem hogy ő szolgáljon másoknak. Azért jött, hogy életét váltságdíjul adja, és ezáltal sokakat megmentsen.”
Bartimeus visszanyeri a látását(F)
46 Ezután Jerikóba mentek. Jézus, a tanítványai, meg az őket körülvevő nagy tömeg már kifelé haladt a városból, amikor egy vak koldus mellé értek, aki az út szélén ült. Bartimeusnak hívták — ez azt jelenti: Timeus fia. 47 Amikor meghallotta, hogy a názáreti Jézus megy arra, kiabálni kezdett: „Jézus, Dávid Fia, könyörülj rajtam!”
48 Sokan rászóltak, hogy maradjon csöndben, de ő annál jobban kiabált: „Dávid Fia! Könyörülj rajtam!”
49 Jézus megállt, és azt mondta: „Hívjátok ide!”

Jesus Teaches About Divorce(A)
10 Then Jesus left that place and went into the ·area [region] of Judea and across the Jordan River. Again, crowds came to him, and he taught them as he usually did.
2 Some Pharisees came to Jesus and tried to ·trick [test; trap] him. They asked, “Is it ·right [lawful; C according to the law of Moses] for a man to divorce his wife?”
3 Jesus answered, “What did Moses command you to do?”
4 They said, “Moses ·allowed [permitted] a man to write out divorce papers and send her away [Deut. 24:1].”
5 Jesus said, “Moses wrote that command for you because you were ·stubborn [hard hearted]. 6 But ·when God made the world [from the beginning of creation], ‘he made them male and female’ [Gen. 1:27; 5:2]. 7 ‘So a man will leave his father and mother and be ·united with [joined to] his wife,[a] 8 and the two will become ·one body [as though they were one person; T one flesh; Gen. 2:24]’. So they are no longer two, but one. 9 God has joined the two together, so no one should separate them.”
10 Later, in the house, his ·followers [disciples] asked Jesus again about ·the question of divorce [L this matter]. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman ·is guilty of [commits] adultery against her. 12 And the woman who divorces her husband and marries another man ·is also guilty of [commits] adultery.”
Jesus Accepts Children(B)
13 Some people brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch them, but his ·followers [disciples] ·told them to stop [scolded/rebuked them]. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was ·upset [angry; indignant] and said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to people who are like these children [C meaning humble and dependent]. 15 I tell you the truth, you must accept the kingdom of God as if you were a little child, or you will never enter it.” 16 Then Jesus took the children in his arms, ·put [laid] his hands on them, and blessed them.
A Rich Young Man’s Question(C)
17 As Jesus started ·to leave [on his way; on a journey], a man ran to him and ·fell on his knees [knelt] before Jesus. The man asked, “Good teacher, what must I do to ·have life forever [L inherit eternal life]?”
18 Jesus answered, “Why do you call me good? ·Only God is good [No one is good except One—God; C Jesus is not denying his own divinity, but is challenging the man’s understanding of goodness]. 19 You know the commands: ‘You must not murder. You must not ·be guilty of [commit] adultery. You must not steal. You must not ·tell lies about your neighbor [testify falsely; T bear false witness]. You must not ·cheat [defraud]. Honor your father and mother’ [Ex. 20:12–16; Deut. 5:16–20].”
20 The man said, “Teacher, I have ·obeyed [kept carefully; guarded] all these things since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus, looking at the man, loved him and said, “There is one more thing you need to do. Go and sell everything you have, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”
22 He was ·very sad [shocked; appalled] to hear Jesus say this, and he left ·sorrowfully [grieving], because he ·was rich [had many possessions].
23 Then Jesus looked [around] at his ·followers [disciples] and said, “How hard it will be for ·the rich [those with many possessions] to enter the kingdom of God!”
24 The ·followers [disciples] were ·amazed [astonished] at what Jesus said. [C In Judaism wealth was generally viewed as a reward from God.] But he said again, “My children, it is very hard[b] to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God [C meaning it is impossible, by human effort; see v. 27].”
26 They were even more ·surprised [amazed] and said to each other, “Then who can be saved?”
27 Jesus looked at them and said, “·For people [Humanly speaking,] this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”
28 Peter ·said [spoke up] to Jesus, “Look, we have left everything and followed you.”
29 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, all those who have left houses, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, or ·farms [fields] for me and for the ·Good News [Gospel] 30 will get more than they left. Here in ·this world [the present age] they will have a hundred times more homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and ·fields [farms]. And with those things, ·they will also suffer for their belief [persecutions]. But in the ·age [world] that is coming they will have ·life forever [eternal life]. 31 Many who are first now will be last in the future. And many who are last now will be first in the future.”
Jesus Talks a Third Time About His Death(D)
32 As Jesus and the people with him were on the road to Jerusalem, he was leading the way. His ·followers [disciples] were ·amazed [surprised; puzzled; alarmed], but others in the crowd who followed were afraid. Again Jesus took ·the twelve apostles [the Twelve] aside and began to tell them what was about to happen [to him] in Jerusalem. 33 He said, “Look, we are going [L up] to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be ·turned over [betrayed; delivered over; see 9:31] to the ·leading [T chief] priests and the ·teachers of the law [scribes]. They will ·say that he must die [condemn him to death], and they will turn him over to the ·Gentiles [C the Roman authorities], 34 who will laugh at him and spit on him. They will beat him with whips and ·crucify [L kill] him. But after three days, he will rise to life again.”
Two Followers Ask Jesus a Favor(E)
35 Then James and John, sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want ·to ask you to do something for us [you to do whatever we ask].”
36 Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”
37 They answered, “Let one of us sit at your right side and one of us sit at your left side in your glory [C the messianic kingdom].”
38 Jesus said, “You don’t understand what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I must drink? And can you be baptized with the same kind of baptism that I must go through?” [C Both “cup” and “baptism” symbolize suffering, and perhaps God’s judgment experienced by Jesus on the cross; Jer. 25:15–29.]
39 They answered, “Yes, we can.”
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the same cup that I will drink, and you will be baptized with the same baptism that I must go through. 40 But ·I cannot choose [it is not for me to grant/say] who will sit at my right or my left; those places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
41 When ·the other ten followers [L the ten] heard this, they began to be ·angry [indignant] with James and John.
42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of ·other nations [the Gentiles] love to ·show their power [lord it] over the people, and their ·important leaders [high officials; L great ones] love to ·use [exert] their authority [L over them]. 43 But it ·should not be [must not be; is not to be] that way among you. [Instead, L But] Whoever wants to become great among you must ·serve the rest of you like a servant [L be your servant]. 44 Whoever wants to become the first among you must ·serve all of you like a slave [L be your slave]. 45 In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many people [Is. 53:12; John 11:49–50].”
Jesus Heals a Blind Man(F)
46 Then they came to the town of Jericho. As Jesus was leaving there with his ·followers [disciples] and a great many people, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus [which means] son of Timaeus was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that Jesus from Nazareth was walking by, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David [C a title for the Messiah, a descendant of King David; 2 Sam. 7:11–16], ·have mercy [take pity] on me!”
48 Many people ·warned [rebuked; scolded] the blind man to be quiet, but he shouted even more, “Son of David, ·have mercy [take pity] on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Tell the man to come here.”
So they called the blind man, saying, “·Cheer up [Take courage]! Get to your feet. Jesus is calling you.” 50 The blind man jumped up, ·left his coat there [threw off his cloak], and went to Jesus.
51 Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The blind man answered, “·Teacher [L Rabbouni], I want to see.”
52 Jesus said, “Go, ·you are healed because you believed [your faith has healed you].” At once the man could see, and he followed Jesus on the road.

Divorce(A)
10 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan.(B) Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.(C)
2 Some Pharisees(D) came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
3 “What did Moses command you?” he replied.
4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”(E)
5 “It was because your hearts were hard(F) that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a](G) 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8 and the two will become one flesh.’[c](H) So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.(I) 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”(J)
The Little Children and Jesus(K)
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.(L) 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”(M) 16 And he took the children in his arms,(N) placed his hands on them and blessed them.
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(O)
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees(P) before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(Q)
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’[d]”(R)
20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor,(S) and you will have treasure in heaven.(T) Then come, follow me.”(U)
22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich(V) to enter the kingdom of God!”
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is[e] to enter the kingdom of God!(W) 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”(X)
26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”(Y)
28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!”(Z)
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much(AA) in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come(AB) eternal life.(AC) 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”(AD)
Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time(AE)
32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve(AF) aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,”(AG) he said, “and the Son of Man(AH) will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law.(AI) They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him(AJ) and kill him.(AK) Three days later(AL) he will rise.”(AM)
The Request of James and John(AN)
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”(AO)
38 “You don’t know what you are asking,”(AP) Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup(AQ) I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”(AR)
39 “We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,(AS) 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(AT) 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,(AU) and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(AV)
Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight(AW)
46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,(AX) he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David,(AY) have mercy on me!”
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi,(AZ) I want to see.”
52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”(BA) Immediately he received his sight and followed(BB) Jesus along the road.

2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
32 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
36 And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?
37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.
38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
