⁴As it is written in ^(A)the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,

^(B)“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
^(C)‘Prepare the way of the Lord,^[a]
make his paths straight.

⁴As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:

“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.

²⁸and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.

²⁸and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet.
