Sending Out the Seventy-Two

10 After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two[a] others, and he sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2 He told them,(A) ‘The harvest(B) is abundant, but the workers(C) are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.(D) 3 Now go; I’m sending you out like lambs among wolves.(E) 4 Don’t carry a money-bag,(F) travelling bag,(G) or sandals;(H) don’t greet anyone along the road. 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, “Peace(I) to this household.” 6 If a person of peace is there, your peace(J) will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7 Remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they offer, for the worker is worthy of his wages.(K) Don’t move from house to house. 8 When you enter any town, and they welcome you, eat the things set before you.(L) 9 Heal the sick(M) who are there, and tell them, “The kingdom of God(N) has come near(O) you.” 10 When you enter any town, and they don’t welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11 “We are wiping off even the dust of your town that clings to our feet as a witness against you.(P) Know this for certain: The kingdom of God has come near.” 12 I tell you, on that day(Q) it will be more tolerable for Sodom(R) than for that town.(S)

Unrepentant Towns

13 ‘Woe(T) to you,(U) Chorazin!(V) Woe to you, Bethsaida!(W) For if the miracles(X) that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon,(Y) they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.(Z) 14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement(AA) than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum,(AB) will you be exalted to heaven?(AC) No, you will go down to Hades.(AD) 16 Whoever listens to you listens to me.(AE) Whoever rejects you rejects me.(AF) And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.’(AG)

The Return of the Seventy-Two

17 The seventy-two[b](AH) returned with joy, saying,(AI) ‘Lord, even the demons(AJ) submit to us in your name.’(AK)

18 He said to them, ‘I watched Satan(AL) fall from heaven like lightning.(AM) 19 Look, I have given you the authority(AN) to trample(AO) on snakes(AP) and scorpions(AQ) and over all the power of the enemy;(AR) nothing at all will harm you.(AS) 20 However, don’t rejoice that[c] the spirits(AT) submit to you,(AU) but rejoice that your names are written(AV) in heaven.’

The Son Reveals the Father

21 At that time(AW) he[d] rejoiced in the Holy[e] Spirit(AX) and said, ‘I praise[f] you, Father,(AY) Lord of heaven and earth,(AZ) because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent(BA) and revealed them to infants.(BB) Yes, Father, because this was your good pleasure.[g](BC) 22 All things have[h] been entrusted to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son desires[i] to reveal him.’(BD)

23 Then turning to his disciples he said privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see the things you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see but didn’t see them; to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.’(BE)

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 Then(BF) an expert in the law(BG) stood up to test(BH) him, saying, ‘Teacher,(BI) what must I do to inherit eternal life? ’(BJ)

26 ‘What is written in the law? ’ he asked him. ‘How do you read it? ’

27 He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God(BK) with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’(BL) and ‘your neighbour as yourself.’[j](BM)

28 ‘You’ve answered correctly,’ he told him. ‘Do this and you will live.’(BN)

29 But wanting to justify himself,(BO) he asked Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbour? ’(BP)

30 Jesus took up the question and said, ‘A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him up, and fled, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down that road. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 In the same way, a Levite, when he arrived at the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan(BQ) on his journey came up to him, and when he saw the man, he had compassion.(BR) 34 He went over to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on olive oil(BS) and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 The next day[k] he took out two denarii,[l] gave them to the innkeeper, and said, “Take care of him. When I come back I’ll reimburse you for whatever extra you spend.”

36 ‘Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers? ’

37 ‘The one who showed mercy(BT) to him,’ he said.

Then Jesus told him, ‘Go and do the same.’

Martha and Mary

38 While they were travelling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha(BU) welcomed him into her home.[m] 39 She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s[n] feet(BV) and was listening to what he said.[o] 40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care(BW) that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.’[p](BX)

41 The Lord[q] answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things,(BY) 42 but one thing is necessary.[r](BZ) Mary has made the right choice,[s] and it will not be taken away from her.’

10 Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy [a]others, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself was about to come. 2 And he said unto them, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways; behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no purse, no wallet, no shoes; and salute no man on the way. 5 And into whatsoever house ye shall [b]enter, first say, Peace be to this house. 6 And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon [c]him: but if not, it shall turn to you again. 7 And in that same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9 and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 10 But into whatsoever city ye shall enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets thereof and say, 11 Even the dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, we wipe off against you: nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh. 12 I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. 13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the [d]mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment, than for you. 15 And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt be brought down unto Hades. 16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth him that sent me.

17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject unto us in thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. 20 Nevertheless in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

21 In that same hour he rejoiced [e]in the Holy Spirit, and said, I [f]thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: yea, Father; [g]for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight. 22 All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth who the Son is, save the Father; and who the Father is, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him. 23 And turning to the disciples, he said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: 24 for I say unto you, that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.

25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26 And he said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27 And he answering said, [h]Thou shalt love the Lord thy God [i]with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; [j]and thy neighbor as thyself. 28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor? 30 Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 And in like manner a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion, 34 and came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 And on the morrow he took out two [k]shillings, and gave them to the host, and said, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, I, when I come back again, will repay thee. 36 Which of these three, thinkest thou, proved neighbor unto him that fell among the robbers? 37 And he said, He that showed mercy on him. And Jesus said unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

38 Now as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was [l]cumbered about much serving; and she came up to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister did leave me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 But the Lord answered and said unto her, [m]Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about many things: 42 [n]but one thing is needful: for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

– Жатвы много, а работников мало. Поэтому просите Хозяина жатвы, чтобы Он выслал работников на Свою жатву.

3 – Идите! Вот, Я посылаю вас, как ягнят в волчью стаю. 4 Не берите с собой ни кошелька, ни сумки, ни сандалий и по дороге никого не приветствуйте.

5 Когда вы войдёте в дом, скажите вначале: «Мир этому дому». 6 Если хозяин – человек, ищущий мира, то ваше благословение будет на нём, если же нет, то оно с ним не останется. 7 Оставайтесь в этом доме, ешьте и пейте то, что вам дадут, потому что работник заслуживает вознаграждения. Не переходите из дома в дом.

8 Если вы войдёте в город и вас там примут, то ешьте всё, что вам предложат, 9 исцеляйте их больных и говорите им: «Всевышний уже устанавливает среди вас Своё Царство». 10 А если вы войдёте в какой-либо город и там вас не примут, то идите по улицам этого города и говорите: 11 «Даже пыль вашего города, что пристала к нашим ногам, мы отряхиваем на вас,[a] но всё же знайте: Всевышний уже устанавливает Своё Царство!» 12 Говорю вам, что в Судный день Содому[b] будет легче, чем этому городу.

13 – Горе тебе, Хоразин! Горе тебе, Вифсаида! Ведь если бы в Тире и Сидоне были совершены те же чудеса, что в вас, то они бы давно раскаялись, одевшись в рубище и сидя в пепле. 14 Но в Судный день Тиру и Сидону будет легче, чем вам. 15 И ты, Капернаум, думаешь, что будешь вознесён до небес? Нет, ты будешь сброшен в ад[c].[d]

16 Потом Он сказал ученикам:

– Кто слушает вас, слушает Меня, и кто отвергает вас, тот отвергает Меня; а кто отвергает Меня, отвергает пославшего Меня.

Возвращение семидесяти учеников(B)

17 Семьдесят учеников возвратились к Исе радостные:

– Повелитель, – говорили они, – даже демоны подчиняются нам, когда мы приказываем им Твоим именем!

18 Иса ответил:

– Я видел, как сатана упал с неба, словно молния! 19 Вот, Я дал вам власть наступать без вреда для вас на змей и скорпионов и преодолевать всю силу врага. 20 Но радуйтесь не тому, что духи вам подчиняются, а тому, что ваши имена записаны на небесах.

21 Тут Иса, исполненный радости, полученной от Святого Духа, сказал:

– Я славлю Тебя, Отец, Владыка неба и земли, за то, что Ты, утаив от мудрецов и учёных, открыл это младенцам. Да, Отец, это было угодно Тебе! 22 Отец вверил Мне всё. Никто не знает, кто есть Сын, кроме Отца, и никто не знает, кто есть Отец, кроме Сына и того, кого Сын избирает, чтобы открыть ему Отца.

23 Потом Он повернулся к Своим ученикам и сказал так, чтобы слышали только они:

– Благословенны глаза, видящие то, что вы видите. 24 Я говорю вам, что много пророков и царей хотели увидеть то, что вы видите, но не увидели, хотели услышать то, что вы слышите, но не услышали.

Притча о милосердном самарянине(C)

25 Тут встал один учитель Таурата и задал Исе вопрос, чтобы поймать Его на слове.

– Учитель, – спросил он, – что мне делать, чтобы наследовать вечную жизнь?

26 – А что сказано в Таурате? – спросил в Свою очередь Иса. – Как ты понимаешь?

27 Тот ответил:

28 – Правильно ты ответил, – сказал ему Иса. – Делай так, и ты будешь жить.

29 Но учитель Таурата, желая как-то оправдать себя, спросил:

– А кто мой ближний?

30 В ответ Иса сказал ему:

– Один человек шёл из Иерусалима в Иерихон. По дороге на него напали разбойники, которые раздели его, избили до полусмерти и ушли. 31 Случайно по той же дороге проходил священнослужитель и, увидев этого человека, прошёл мимо по другой стороне дороги. 32 Так же поступил и левит[g]: дойдя до этого места и увидев пострадавшего, он обошёл его стороной. 33 Но вот к тому месту, где он лежал, приблизился проезжавший мимо самарянин[h]. Он увидел беднягу и сжалился над ним. 34 Он подошёл и перевязал его раны, промыв их маслом и вином. Затем он посадил пострадавшего на своего осла, привёз его в гостиницу и там ещё ухаживал за ним. 35 На следующий день он дал хозяину гостиницы две серебряные монеты[i] и сказал: «Присмотри за ним, а когда я буду возвращаться, то оплачу все дополнительные расходы». 36 Кто из этих трёх был, по-твоему, ближним человеку, пострадавшему от рук разбойников?

37 Учитель Таурата ответил:

– Тот, кто проявил к нему милость.

Тогда Иса сказал ему:

– Иди и ты поступай так же.

В гостях у Марьям и Марфы

38 По пути Иса с учениками пришли в одно селение. Там женщина, по имени Марфа, пригласила Его в свой дом. 39 У неё была сестра, которую звали Марьям. Марьям сидела у ног Исы и слушала, что Он говорил. 40 Марфа же была занята приготовлением обеда. Она подошла к Исе и сказала:

– Повелитель, Тебе нет дела до того, что моя сестра оставила всю работу на меня одну? Скажи ей, чтобы она помогла мне!

41 – Марфа, Марфа, – ответил Иса, – ты тревожишься и заботишься о многом, 42 а нужно ведь только одно. Марьям выбрала лучшее, и это у неё не отнимется.

18 He replied, “I saw Satan(W) fall like lightning from heaven.(X) 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes(Y) and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”(Z)

21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AA) Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

22 “All things have been committed to me by my Father.(AB) No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”(AC)

23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”(AD)

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha(AM) opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary,(AN) who sat at the Lord’s feet(AO) listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care(AP) that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried(AQ) and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[f](AR) Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
