Parábola del juez y la viuda
18 Les refirió también una parábola acerca de la necesidad de orar siempre y no desmayar. 2 Les dijo: “En cierta ciudad había un juez que ni temía a Dios ni respetaba al hombre. 3 Había también en aquella ciudad una viuda la cual venía a él diciendo: ‘Hazme justicia contra mi adversario’. 4 Él no quiso por algún tiempo pero después se dijo a sí mismo: ‘Aunque ni temo a Dios ni respeto al hombre, 5 le haré justicia a esta viuda porque no me deja de molestar; para que no venga continuamente a cansarme’”.
6 Entonces dijo el Señor: “Oigan lo que dice el juez injusto. 7 ¿Y Dios no hará justicia a sus escogidos que claman a él de día y de noche? ¿Les hará esperar? 8 Les digo que los defenderá pronto. Sin embargo, cuando venga el Hijo del Hombre, ¿hallará fe en la tierra?”.
Parábola del fariseo y el publicano
9 Dijo también esta parábola a unos que confiaban en sí mismos como que eran justos y menospreciaban a los demás: 10 “Dos hombres subieron al templo a orar. Uno era fariseo, y el otro, publicano. 11 El fariseo, de pie, oraba consigo mismo de esta manera: ‘Dios, te doy gracias que no soy como los demás hombres: ladrones, injustos, adúlteros; ni aun como este publicano. 12 Ayuno dos veces a la semana, doy diezmos de todo lo que poseo’. 13 Pero el publicano, de pie a cierta distancia, no quería ni alzar los ojos al cielo sino que se golpeaba el pecho diciendo: ‘Dios, sé propicio a mí, que soy pecador’. 14 Les digo que este descendió a casa justificado en lugar del primero. Porque cualquiera que se enaltece será humillado, y el que se humilla será enaltecido”.
Jesús bendice a los niños
15 También le presentaban los niños pequeños para que los tocara. Y los discípulos, al ver esto, les reprendían. 16 Pero Jesús los llamó diciendo: “Dejen a los niños venir a mí y no les impidan porque de los tales es el reino de Dios. 17 De cierto les digo que cualquiera que no reciba el reino de Dios como un niño, jamás entrará en él”.
Jesús y el joven rico
18 Le preguntó cierto hombre principal, diciendo:
—Maestro bueno, ¿qué haré para obtener la vida eterna?
19 Y Jesús le dijo:
—¿Por qué me llamas “bueno”? Ninguno es bueno sino solo uno, Dios. 20 Tú conoces los mandamientos: No cometas adulterio, no cometas homicidio, no robes, no digas falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre[a].
21 Entonces él le dijo:
—Todo esto lo he guardado desde mi juventud.
22 Jesús, al oírlo, le dijo:
—Aún te falta una cosa: Vende todo lo que tienes y repártelo a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, sígueme.
23 Entonces él, al oír estas cosas, se entristeció mucho porque era muy rico.
El peligro de las riquezas
24 Jesús, al ver que se había entristecido mucho, dijo:
—¡Cuán difícilmente entrarán en el reino de Dios los que tienen riquezas! 25 Porque más fácil le es a un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja, que a un rico entrar en el reino de Dios.
26 Los que oyeron esto dijeron:
—¿Y quién podrá ser salvo?
27 Él les dijo:
—Lo que es imposible para los hombres es posible para Dios.
28 Entonces Pedro dijo:
—He aquí, nosotros hemos dejado lo nuestro y te hemos seguido.
29 Y él les dijo:
—De cierto les digo que no hay nadie que haya dejado casa, mujer, hermanos, padres o hijos por causa del reino de Dios, 30 que no haya de recibir muchísimo más en este tiempo, y en la edad venidera la vida eterna.
Jesús anuncia su muerte y victoria
31 Jesús, tomando a los doce, les dijo:
—He aquí subimos a Jerusalén, y se cumplirán todas las cosas que fueron escritas por los profetas acerca del Hijo del Hombre. 32 Porque será entregado a los gentiles, y será escarnecido, injuriado y escupido. 33 Después que lo hayan azotado, lo matarán; pero al tercer día resucitará.
34 Sin embargo, ellos no entendían nada de esto. Esta palabra les estaba encubierta, y no entendían lo que se les decía.
Jesús sana a un ciego en Jericó
35 Aconteció, al acercarse Jesús a Jericó, que un ciego estaba sentado junto al camino mendigando. 36 Este, como oyó pasar a la multitud, preguntó qué era aquello. 37 Y le dijeron que pasaba Jesús de Nazaret. 38 Entonces él gritó diciendo:
—¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí!
39 Los que iban delante lo reprendían para que se callara pero él clamaba con mayor insistencia:
—¡Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí!
40 Entonces Jesús se detuvo, mandó que se lo trajeran y, cuando llegó, le preguntó 41 diciendo:
—¿Qué quieres que te haga?
Y él dijo:
—Señor, que yo recobre la vista.
42 Jesús le dijo:
—Recobra la vista; tu fe te ha salvado.
43 Inmediatamente recobró la vista, y lo seguía glorificando a Dios. Y todo el pueblo, al ver esto, dio alabanza a Dios.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow
18 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.(A) 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice(B) against my adversary.’
4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”(C)
6 And the Lord(D) said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out(E) to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man(F) comes,(G) will he find faith on the earth?”
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness(H) and looked down on everyone else,(I) Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray,(J) one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself(K) and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast(L) twice a week and give a tenth(M) of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast(N) and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’(O)
14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(P)
The Little Children and Jesus(Q)
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child(R) will never enter it.”
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(S)
18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(T)
19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]”(U)
21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor,(V) and you will have treasure in heaven.(W) Then come, follow me.”
23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!(X) 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”(Y)
28 Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”(Z)
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come(AA) eternal life.”(AB)
Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time(AC)
31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem,(AD) and everything that is written by the prophets(AE) about the Son of Man(AF) will be fulfilled. 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles.(AG) They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; 33 they will flog him(AH) and kill him.(AI) On the third day(AJ) he will rise again.”(AK)
34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.(AL)
A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight(AM)
35 As Jesus approached Jericho,(AN) a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”(AO)
38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David,(AP) have mercy(AQ) on me!”
39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”(AR)
40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”(AS) 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.(AT)
