“If anyone sins in that he hears a public (A)adjuration to testify, and though he is a witness, whether he has seen or come to know the matter, yet does not speak, he shall (B)bear his iniquity; or (C)if anyone touches an unclean thing, whether a carcass of an unclean wild animal or a carcass of unclean livestock or a carcass of unclean swarming things, and it is hidden from him and he has become unclean, and he realizes his guilt; or if he touches (D)human uncleanness, of whatever sort the uncleanness may be with which one becomes unclean, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it, and realizes his guilt; or if anyone utters with his lips a (E)rash oath to do evil or to do good, any sort of rash oath that people (F)swear, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it, and he realizes his guilt in any of these; when he realizes his guilt in any of these and (G)confesses the sin he has committed, he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation[a] for the sin that he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin.

“But (H)if he cannot afford a lamb, then he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation for the sin that he has committed two (I)turtledoves or two pigeons,[b] one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. He shall bring them to the priest, who shall offer first the one for the sin offering. He shall (J)wring its head from its neck (K)but shall not sever it completely, and he shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, while (L)the rest of the blood shall be drained out (M)at the base of the altar; it is a sin offering. 10 Then he shall offer the second for a burnt offering according to the rule. (N)And the priest shall make atonement for him for the sin that he has committed, and he shall be forgiven.

11 “But if he cannot afford two turtledoves or two pigeons, then he shall bring as his offering for the sin that he has committed a (O)tenth of an ephah[c] of fine flour for a sin offering. He (P)shall put no oil on it and shall put no frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. 12 And he shall bring it to (Q)the priest, and the priest shall take a handful of it as its memorial portion and (R)burn this on the altar, on the Lord's food offerings; it is a sin offering. 13 Thus (S)the priest shall make atonement for him for the sin which he has committed in any one of these things, and he shall be forgiven. And the remainder[d] shall be for the priest, as in the grain offering.”

Laws for Guilt Offerings

14 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 15 (T)“If anyone commits a breach of faith and sins unintentionally in any of the holy things of the Lord, (U)he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation, a ram without blemish out of the flock, valued[e] in silver shekels,[f] according to the (V)shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt offering. 16 He shall also make restitution for what he has done amiss in the holy thing and (W)shall add a fifth to it and give it to the priest. (X)And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he shall be forgiven.

17 (Y)“If anyone sins, doing any of the things that by the Lord's commandments ought not to be done, (Z)though he did not know it, then realizes his guilt, he shall bear his iniquity. 18 (AA)He shall bring to the priest a ram without blemish out of the flock, or its equivalent, for a guilt offering, and (AB)the priest shall make atonement for him for the mistake that he made unintentionally, and he shall be forgiven. 19 It is a guilt offering; he has indeed incurred guilt before[g] the Lord.”

[h] The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “If anyone sins and (AC)commits a breach of faith against the Lord by (AD)deceiving his neighbor in (AE)a matter of deposit or security, or through robbery, or (AF)if he has oppressed his neighbor or (AG)has found something lost and lied about it, (AH)swearing falsely—in any of all the things that people do and sin thereby— if he has sinned and has realized his guilt and will restore (AI)what he took by robbery or what he got by oppression or the deposit that was committed to him or the lost thing that he found or anything about which he has sworn falsely, he shall (AJ)restore it in full and shall add a fifth to it, and give it to him to whom it belongs on the day he realizes his guilt. And he shall bring to the priest as his compensation to the Lord (AK)a ram without blemish out of the flock, or its equivalent, for a guilt offering. (AL)And the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any of the things that one may do and thereby become guilty.”

The Priests and the Offerings

[i] The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt offering. The burnt offering shall be on the hearth on the altar all night until the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning on it. 10 And (AM)the priest shall put on his linen garment and put his linen undergarment on his body, and he shall take up the ashes to which the fire has reduced the burnt offering on the altar and put them (AN)beside the altar. 11 Then (AO)he shall take off his garments and put on other garments and carry the ashes (AP)outside the camp to a clean place. 12 The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and he shall arrange the burnt offering on it and shall burn on it (AQ)the fat of the peace offerings. 13 Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.

14 “And this is the law of (AR)the grain offering. The sons of Aaron shall offer it before the Lord in front of the altar. 15 And one shall take from it a handful of the fine flour of the grain offering and its oil and all the frankincense that is on the grain offering and burn this as its (AS)memorial portion on the altar, a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 16 And (AT)the rest of it Aaron and his sons shall eat. It shall be eaten unleavened (AU)in a holy place. In the court of the tent of meeting they shall eat it. 17 (AV)It shall not be baked with leaven. (AW)I have given it as their portion of my food offerings. (AX)It is a thing most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering. 18 Every male among the children of Aaron may eat of it, as decreed forever throughout your generations, from the Lord's food offerings. Whatever touches them shall become holy.”

19 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 20 (AY)“This is the offering that Aaron and his sons shall offer to the Lord on the day when he is anointed: a (AZ)tenth of an ephah[j] of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. 21 It shall be made with oil (BA)on a griddle. You shall bring it (BB)well mixed, in baked[k] pieces like a grain offering, and offer it for a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 22 The priest from among Aaron's sons, who is anointed to succeed him, shall offer it to the Lord as decreed forever. (BC)The whole of it shall be burned. 23 Every grain offering of a priest shall be wholly burned. It shall not be eaten.”

24 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 25 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, (BD)This is the law of the sin offering. (BE)In the place where the burnt offering is killed shall the sin offering be killed before the Lord; (BF)it is most holy. 26 (BG)The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. (BH)In a holy place it shall be eaten, in the court of the tent of meeting. 27 Whatever touches its flesh shall be holy, and when any of its blood is splashed on a garment, you shall wash that on which it was splashed in a holy place. 28 And (BI)the earthenware vessel in which it is boiled (BJ)shall be broken. But if it is boiled in a bronze vessel, that shall be scoured and rinsed in water. 29 Every male among the priests may eat of it; (BK)it is most holy. 30 (BL)But no sin offering shall be eaten from which any blood is brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place; it shall be burned up with fire.

(BM)“This is the law of the (BN)guilt offering. (BO)It is most holy. (BP)In the place where they kill the burnt offering they shall kill the guilt offering, and its blood shall be thrown against the sides of the altar. And (BQ)all its fat shall be offered, the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, the two kidneys with the fat that is on them at the loins, and the long lobe of the liver that he shall remove (BR)with the kidneys. The priest shall burn them on the altar as a food offering to the Lord; it is a guilt offering. (BS)Every male among the priests may eat of it. It shall be eaten in a holy place. (BT)It is most holy. The (BU)guilt offering is just like the sin offering; there is one law for them. The priest who makes atonement with it shall have it. And the priest who offers any man's burnt offering shall have for himself the skin of the burnt offering that he has offered. And (BV)every grain offering baked (BW)in the oven and all that is prepared (BX)on a pan or a griddle shall belong to the priest who offers it. 10 And every grain offering, mixed with oil or dry, shall be shared equally among all the sons of Aaron.

11 “And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings that one may offer to the Lord. 12 If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the thanksgiving sacrifice (BY)unleavened loaves mixed with oil, unleavened wafers smeared with oil, and loaves of fine flour (BZ)well mixed with oil. 13 (CA)With the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving he shall bring his offering with loaves of leavened bread. 14 And from it he shall offer one loaf from each offering, as a (CB)gift to the Lord. (CC)It shall belong to the priest who throws the blood of the peace offerings. 15 And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings (CD)for thanksgiving shall be eaten on the day of his offering. He shall not leave any of it until the morning. 16 But (CE)if the sacrifice of his offering is a vow offering or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day that he offers his sacrifice, and on the next day what remains of it shall be eaten. 17 But what remains of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burned up with fire. 18 If any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offering is eaten on the third day, he who offers it shall not be accepted, neither shall it be credited to him. It is (CF)tainted, and he who eats of it shall bear his iniquity.

19 “Flesh that touches any unclean thing shall not be eaten. It shall be burned up with fire. All who are clean may eat flesh, 20 but the person who eats of the flesh of the sacrifice of the Lord's peace offerings (CG)while an uncleanness is on him, that person shall be cut off from his people. 21 And if anyone touches an unclean thing, whether (CH)human uncleanness or an (CI)unclean beast or any (CJ)unclean detestable creature, and then eats some flesh from the sacrifice of the Lord's peace offerings, that person shall be cut off from his people.”

22 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, (CK)You shall eat no fat, of ox or sheep or goat. 24 The fat of an animal (CL)that dies of itself and the fat of one that is torn by beasts may be put to any other use, but on no account shall you eat it. 25 For every person who eats of the fat of an animal of which a food offering may be made to the Lord shall be cut off from his people. 26 Moreover, (CM)you shall eat no blood whatever, whether of fowl or of animal, in any of your dwelling places. 27 Whoever eats any blood, that person shall be cut off from his people.”

28 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 29 “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, (CN)Whoever offers the sacrifice of his peace offerings to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord from the sacrifice of his peace offerings. 30 (CO)His own hands shall bring the Lord's food offerings. He shall bring the fat with (CP)the breast, that the breast may be waved as a wave offering before the Lord. 31 (CQ)The priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but (CR)the breast shall be for Aaron and his sons. 32 And (CS)the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a contribution from the sacrifice of your peace offerings. 33 Whoever among the sons of Aaron offers the blood of the peace offerings and the fat shall have the right thigh for a portion. 34 For the breast that is (CT)waved and the thigh that is (CU)contributed I have taken from the people of Israel, out of the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and (CV)have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons, as a perpetual due from the people of Israel. 35 This is the portion of Aaron and of his sons from the Lord's food offerings, from the day they were presented to serve as priests of the Lord. 36 The Lord commanded this to be given them by the people of Israel, (CW)from the day that he anointed them. It is a perpetual due throughout their generations.”

37 This is the law (CX)of the burnt offering, of the grain offering, of the sin offering, (CY)of the guilt offering, (CZ)of the ordination offering, and (DA)of the peace offering, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day that he commanded the people of Israel (DB)to bring their offerings to the Lord, in the wilderness of Sinai.

Cases Requiring Sin Offerings

“When someone sins in any of these ways:

If he has seen, heard, or known about something he has witnessed, and did not respond to a public call to testify, he is responsible for his sin.(A)

Or if someone touches anything unclean(B)—a carcass of an unclean wild animal,(C) or unclean livestock, or an unclean swarming creature[a](D)—without being aware of it, he is unclean and guilty.(E)

Or if he touches human uncleanness(F)—any uncleanness by which one can become defiled(G)—without being aware of it, but later recognizes it, he is guilty.

Or if someone swears rashly(H) to do what is good or evil—concerning anything a person may speak rashly in an oath—without being aware of it, but later recognizes it, he incurs guilt in such an instance.[b]

If someone incurs guilt in one of these cases, he is to confess(I) he has committed that sin. He must bring his restitution(J) for the sin he has committed to the Lord: a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement(K) on his behalf for his sin.

“But if he cannot afford an animal from the flock, then he may bring to the Lord two turtledoves or two young pigeons(L) as restitution for his sin—one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. He is to bring them to the priest, who will first present the one for the sin offering. He must twist its head at the back of the neck without severing it.(M) Then he will sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, while the rest of the blood is to be drained out at the base of the altar;(N) it is a sin offering. 10 He must prepare the second bird as a burnt offering according to the regulation.(O) In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.

11 “But if he cannot afford[c] two turtledoves or two young pigeons,(P) he may bring two quarts[d] of fine[e] flour[f](Q) as an offering for his sin. He must not put olive oil or frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. 12 He is to bring it to the priest, who will take a handful from it as its memorial portion(R) and burn it on the altar along with the fire offerings to the Lord; it is a sin offering. 13 In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf concerning the sin he has committed in any of these cases, and he will be forgiven. The rest will belong to the priest, like the grain offering.”(S)

The Restitution Offering

14 Then the Lord spoke to Moses: 15 “If someone offends(T) by sinning unintentionally(U) in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things,[g] he must bring his restitution offering to the Lord: an unblemished ram from the flock (based on your assessment of its value in silver shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel(V)) as a restitution offering. 16 He must make restitution(W) for his sin regarding any holy(X) thing, adding a fifth of its value to it,(Y) and give it to the priest. Then the priest will make atonement on his behalf with the ram of the restitution offering, and he will be forgiven.(Z)

17 “If someone sins and without knowing it violates any of the Lord’s commands concerning anything prohibited, he bears the consequences of his guilt. 18 He must bring an unblemished ram from the flock according to your assessment of its value as a restitution offering to the priest. Then the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the error he has committed unintentionally, and he will be forgiven. 19 It is a restitution offering; he is indeed guilty before the Lord.”

[h]The Lord spoke to Moses: “When someone sins and offends the Lord by deceiving(AA) his neighbor in regard to a deposit,(AB) a security,[i] or a robbery;(AC) or defrauds(AD) his neighbor; or finds something lost and lies about it;(AE) or swears falsely(AF) about any of the sinful things a person may do— once he has sinned(AG) and acknowledged his guilt(AH)—he must return what he stole or defrauded, or the deposit entrusted to him, or the lost item he found, or anything else about which he swore falsely. He must make full restitution for it and add a fifth of its value to it.(AI) He is to pay it to its owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt.(AJ) Then he must bring his restitution offering(AK) to the Lord: an unblemished(AL) ram from the flock according to your assessment of its value as a restitution offering to the priest. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf before the Lord, and he will be forgiven for anything he may have done to incur guilt.”(AM)

The Burnt Offering

[j]The Lord spoke to Moses: “Command Aaron and his sons: This is the law of the burnt offering; the burnt offering itself must remain on the altar’s hearth all night until morning, while the fire of the altar is kept burning on it. 10 The priest is to put on his linen robe and linen undergarments.[k](AN) He is to remove the ashes of the burnt offering the fire has consumed on the altar, and place them beside the altar. 11 Then he must take off his garments, put on other clothes,(AO) and bring the ashes outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place. 12 The fire on the altar is to be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest will burn wood on the fire. He is to arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat portions from the fellowship offerings(AP) on it. 13 Fire must be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not go out.

The Grain Offering

14 “Now this is the law of the grain offering:(AQ) Aaron’s sons will present it before the Lord in front of the altar. 15 The priest is to remove a handful of fine flour and olive oil from the grain offering, with all the frankincense that is on the offering, and burn its memorial portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 16 Aaron and his sons may eat the rest of it.(AR) It is to be eaten in the form of unleavened bread(AS) in a holy place;(AT) they are to eat it in the courtyard(AU) of the tent of meeting. 17 It must not be baked with yeast; I have assigned it as their portion(AV) from My fire offerings.(AW) It is especially holy, like the sin offering(AX) and the restitution offering. 18 Any male among Aaron’s descendants(AY) may eat it. It is a permanent portion[l](AZ) throughout your generations from the fire offerings to the Lord. Anything that touches the offerings will become holy.”(BA)

19 The Lord spoke to Moses: 20 “This is the offering that Aaron and his sons must present to the Lord on the day that he is anointed: two quarts[m] of fine flour as a regular[n] grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. 21 It is to be prepared with oil on a griddle; you are to bring it well-kneaded. You must present it as a grain offering of baked pieces,[o] a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 22 The priest, who is one of Aaron’s sons and will be anointed to take his place, is to prepare it. It must be completely burned as a permanent portion for the Lord. 23 Every grain offering for a priest will be a whole burnt offering;(BB) it is not to be eaten.”

The Sin Offering

24 The Lord spoke to Moses: 25 “Tell Aaron and his sons: This is the law of the sin offering.(BC) The sin offering is most holy and must be slaughtered before the Lord at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered. 26 The priest who offers it as a sin offering is to eat it. It must be eaten in a holy place,(BD) in the courtyard of the tent of meeting. 27 Anything that touches its flesh will become holy, and if any of its blood spatters on a garment, then you must wash that garment[p] in a holy place. 28 A clay pot in which the sin offering is boiled must be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze vessel, it must be scoured and rinsed with water. 29 Any male among the priests may eat it; it is especially holy. 30 But no sin offering may be eaten if its blood has been brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement in the holy place; it must be burned up.

The Restitution Offering

“Now this is the law of the restitution offering;(BE) it is especially holy. The restitution offering must be slaughtered at the place where the burnt offering(BF) is slaughtered, and the priest is to sprinkle its blood on all sides of the altar. The offerer must present all the fat from it: the fat tail,(BG) the fat surrounding the entrails,[q] and the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins; he will also remove the fatty lobe of the liver(BH) with the kidneys. The priest will burn them on the altar as a fire offering(BI) to the Lord; it is a restitution offering. Any male among the priests may eat it.(BJ) It is to be eaten in a holy place;(BK) it is especially holy.(BL)

“The restitution offering is like the sin offering;(BM) the law is the same for both. It belongs to the priest(BN) who makes atonement(BO) with it. As for the priest who presents someone’s burnt offering, the hide of the burnt offering he has presented belongs to him; it is the priest’s. Any grain offering(BP) that is baked in an oven or prepared in a pan or on a griddle belongs to the priest who presents it; it is his. 10 But any grain offering, whether dry or mixed with oil, belongs equally[r] to all of Aaron’s sons.

The Fellowship Sacrifice

11 “Now this is the law of the fellowship sacrifice(BQ) that someone may present to the Lord: 12 If he presents it for thanksgiving, in addition to the thanksgiving sacrifice,[s](BR) he is to present unleavened cakes(BS) mixed with olive oil, unleavened wafers(BT) coated with oil, and well-kneaded cakes of fine flour mixed with oil. 13 He is to present as his offering cakes of leavened bread[t] with his thanksgiving sacrifice of fellowship. 14 From the cakes he must present one portion of each offering as a contribution(BU) to the Lord. It will belong to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the fellowship offering; it is his. 15 The meat of his thanksgiving sacrifice of fellowship must be eaten on the day he offers it;(BV) he may not leave any of it until morning.(BW)

16 “If the sacrifice he offers is a vow[u](BX) or a freewill offering,[v](BY) it is to be eaten on the day he presents his sacrifice, and what is left over may be eaten on the next day. 17 But what remains of the sacrificial meat by the third day must be burned up.(BZ) 18 If any of the meat of his fellowship sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted.(CA) It will not be credited to the one who presents it; it is repulsive.(CB) The person who eats any of it will be responsible for his sin.[w]

19 “Meat that touches anything unclean must not be eaten; it is to be burned up. Everyone who is clean may eat any other meat. 20 But the one who eats meat from the Lord’s fellowship sacrifice while he is unclean,[x] that person must be cut off from his people.(CC) 21 If someone touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any unclean, detestable[y](CD) creature, and eats meat from the Lord’s fellowship sacrifice, that person must be cut off from his people.”

Fat and Blood Prohibited

22 The Lord spoke to Moses: 23 “Tell the Israelites: You are not to eat any fat(CE) of an ox, a sheep, or a goat. 24 The fat of an animal that dies naturally or is mauled by wild beasts[z](CF) may be used for any purpose, but you must not eat it.(CG) 25 If anyone eats animal fat from a fire offering presented to the Lord, the person who eats it must be cut off from his people. 26 Wherever you live, you must not eat the blood(CH) of any bird or animal. 27 Whoever eats any blood, that person must be cut off from his people.”

The Portion for the Priests

28 The Lord spoke to Moses: 29 “Tell the Israelites: The one who presents a fellowship sacrifice to the Lord must bring an offering to the Lord from his sacrifice. 30 His own hands will bring the fire offerings to the Lord. He will bring the fat together with the breast. The breast is to be waved as a presentation offering(CI) before the Lord. 31 The priest is to burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons. 32 You are to give the right thigh(CJ) to the priest as a contribution from your fellowship sacrifices. 33 The son of Aaron who presents the blood of the fellowship offering and the fat will have the right thigh as a portion. 34 I have taken from the Israelites the breast of the presentation offering and the thigh of the contribution from their fellowship sacrifices, and have assigned them to Aaron the priest and his sons as a permanent portion[aa](CK) from the Israelites.”

35 This is the portion from the fire offerings to the Lord for Aaron and his sons(CL) since the day they were presented to serve the Lord as priests. 36 The Lord commanded this to be given to them by the Israelites on the day He anointed them.(CM) It is a permanent portion[ab] throughout their generations.

37 This is the law for the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the restitution offering, the ordination offering,(CN) and the fellowship sacrifice, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai(CO) on the day He[ac] commanded the Israelites to present their offerings to the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai.(CP)
