10 2 Tola dieth. 5 Jair also dieth. 7 The Israelites are punished for their sins. 10 They cry unto God, 16 and he hath pity on them.

After Abimelech, there arose to defend Israel, Tola, the son of Puah, the son of [a]Dodo, a man of Issachar, which dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.

And he [b]judged Israel three and twenty years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

¶ And after him arose Jair a Gileadite, and judged Israel two and twenty years.

And he had thirty sons that [c]rode on thirty asscolts, and they had thirty cities, which are called [d]Havoth Jair unto this day, and are in the land of Gilead.

And Jair died, and was buried in Camon.

(A)And the children of Israel wrought wickedness again in the sight of the Lord, and served Baal and (B)Ashtoreth, and the gods of [e]Aram, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the Lord and served not him.

Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he [f]sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon:

Who from that year vexed and oppressed the children of Israel eighteen years, [g]even all the children of Israel that were beyond Jordan, in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

Moreover, the children of Ammon went over Jordan to fight against Judah and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim: so that Israel was sore tormented.

10 Then the children of Israel [h]cried unto the Lord, saying, We have sinned against thee, even because we have forsaken our own God, and have served Baal.

11 And the Lord [i]said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

12 The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites did oppress you, and ye cried to me, and I saved you out of their hands.

13 Yet ye (C)have forsaken me, and served other gods: Wherefore I will deliver you no more.

14 Go, and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen: let them save you in the time of your tribulation.

15 And the children of Israel said unto the Lord, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever please thee: only we pray thee to deliver us [j]this day.

16 Then they put away the strange gods from among them, and [k]served the Lord: and [l]his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

17 Then the children of Ammon gathered themselves together, and pitched in Gilead: and the children of Israel assembled themselves, and pitched in Mizpah.

18 And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, Whosoever will begin the battle against the children of Ammon, the same shall be (D)head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

57 (A)[a]And they took Jesus, and led him to [b]Caiaphas the high Priest, where the Scribes and the Elders were assembled.

58 And Peter followed him afar off unto the high Priest’s [c]hall, and went in and sat with the servants to see the end.

59 Now (B)the chief Priests and the Elders, and all the whole Council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death.

60 But they found none, and though many false witnesses came, yet found they none: but at the last came two false witnesses,

61 And said, This man said, (C)I can destroy the Temple of God, and build it in three days.

62 Then the chief Priest arose, and said to him, Answerest thou nothing? [d]What is the matter that these men witness against thee?

63 But Jesus held his peace. Then the chief Priest answered, and said to him, I charge thee swear unto us by the living God, to tell us, If thou be that Christ the son of God, or no.

64 (D)Jesus said to him, Thou hast said it: nevertheless I say unto you, [e]Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man, sitting [f]at the right hand of the power of God, and come in the [g]clouds of the heaven.

65 Then the high Priest [h]rent his clothes, saying, He hath blasphemed, what have we any more need of witnesses: behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

66 What think ye? They answered, and said, He is guilty of death.

67 (E)Then spat they in his face, and buffeted him, and others smote him with rods,

68 Saying, Prophesy to us, O Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

69 (F)[i]Peter [j]sat without in the hall, and a maid came to him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee:

70 But he denied before them all, saying, I wot not what thou sayest.

71 And when he went out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This man was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

72 And again he denied with an oath, saying, I know not the man.

73 So after a while, came unto him they that stood by, and said unto Peter, Surely thou art also one of them: for even thy speech bewrayeth thee.

74 Then began he to [k]curse himself, and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

75 Then Peter remembered the words of Jesus, which had said unto him, Before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice. So he went out, and wept bitterly.
