28 Then Joshua burned Ai. He made it a permanently deserted mound. That is still the case today. 29 He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until evening. At sundown, Joshua gave an order, and they took his body down from the tree. They threw it down at the opening of the city gate. Then they raised over it a great pile of stones that is still there today.

28 So Joshua burned(A) Ai[a](B) and made it a permanent heap of ruins,(C) a desolate place to this day.(D) 29 He impaled the body of the king of Ai on a pole and left it there until evening. At sunset,(E) Joshua ordered them to take the body from the pole and throw it down at the entrance of the city gate. And they raised a large pile of rocks(F) over it, which remains to this day.
