16 So Joshua took all that land, (A)the hill country and all the Negeb and (B)all the land of Goshen (C)and the lowland (D)and the Arabah (E)and the hill country of Israel and its lowland 17 (F)from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as (G)Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon below (H)Mount Hermon. And he captured (I)all their kings and struck them and put them to death. 18 Joshua made war (J)a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except (K)the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord's doing (L)to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, (M)just as the Lord commanded Moses.

21 And Joshua came at that time and cut off (N)the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. 22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel. Only in Gaza, (O)in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, (P)according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses. (Q)And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel (R)according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.

Kings Defeated by Moses

12 Now these are the kings of the land whom the people of Israel defeated and took possession of their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise, from (S)the Valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon, with all (T)the Arabah eastward: (U)Sihon king of the Amorites who lived at Heshbon and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and (V)from the middle of the valley as far as the (W)river Jabbok, the boundary of the Ammonites, that is, half of Gilead, and (X)the Arabah (Y)to the Sea of Chinneroth eastward, and in the direction of Beth-jeshimoth, to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, southward to the foot of (Z)the slopes of Pisgah; and (AA)Og[a] king of Bashan, one of the remnant of (AB)the Rephaim, (AC)who lived at Ashtaroth and at Edrei and ruled over (AD)Mount Hermon and (AE)Salecah and all Bashan (AF)to the boundary of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and over half of Gilead to the boundary of Sihon king of Heshbon. (AG)Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the people of Israel defeated them. And Moses the servant of the Lord (AH)gave their land for a possession to the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

16 So Joshua took this entire land: the hill country,(A) all the Negev,(B) the whole region of Goshen, the western foothills,(C) the Arabah and the mountains of Israel with their foothills, 17 from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir,(D) to Baal Gad(E) in the Valley of Lebanon(F) below Mount Hermon.(G) He captured all their kings and put them to death.(H) 18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time. 19 Except for the Hivites(I) living in Gibeon,(J) not one city made a treaty of peace(K) with the Israelites, who took them all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts(L) to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.(M)

21 At that time Joshua went and destroyed the Anakites(N) from the hill country: from Hebron, Debir(O) and Anab,(P) from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua totally destroyed them and their towns. 22 No Anakites were left in Israelite territory; only in Gaza,(Q) Gath(R) and Ashdod(S) did any survive.

23 So Joshua took the entire land,(T) just as the Lord had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance(U) to Israel according to their tribal divisions.(V) Then the land had rest(W) from war.(X)
