Before Abraham Was, I Am

⁴⁸ The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and ^(A)have a demon?” ⁴⁹ Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but ^(B)I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. ⁵⁰ Yet ^(C)I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. ⁵¹ Truly, truly, ^(D)I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never ^(E)see death.” ⁵² The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! ^(F)Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet ^(G)you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never ^(H)taste death.’ ^53 (I)Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?” ⁵⁴ Jesus answered, ^(J)“If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. ^(K)It is my Father who glorifies me, ^(L)of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’^{[a] 55} But ^(M)you have not known him. ^(N)I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be ^(O)a liar ^(P)like you, but I do know him and I keep his word.

²¹ For as the Father ^(A)raises the dead and ^(B)gives them life, so ^(C)also the Son gives life ^(D)to whom he will. ^22 (E)For the Father judges no one, but ^(F)has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son, just as they ^(G)honor the Father. ^(H)Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(I)whoever hears my word and ^(J)believes him who sent me has eternal life. He ^(K)does not come into judgment, but ^(L)has passed from death to life.

²⁵ “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(M)an hour is coming, and is now here, when ^(N)the dead will hear ^(O)the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear ^(P)will live. ^26 (Q)For as the Father has life in himself, ^(R)so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. ²⁷ And he ^(S)has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not marvel at this, for ^(T)an hour is coming when ^(U)all who are in the tombs will hear his voice ²⁹ and come out, ^(V)those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
