De genezing bij de vijver Betzata

Jezus ging enige tijd later terug naar Jeruzalem om een van de Joodse feesten bij te wonen. Bij de Schaapspoort in Jeruzalem was de vijver Betzata met vijf zuilengalerijen. In die zuilengalerijen lagen talloze zieke mensen, zoals blinden, lammen en kreupelen, te wachten tot het water in beweging zou komen. Want van tijd tot tijd raakte een engel uit de hemel het water aan. Wie dan het eerst in het water stapte werd genezen, wat voor ziekte hij ook had. Er lag ook een man die al achtendertig jaar ziek was. Jezus zag hem daar liggen en wist dat hij al heel lang ziek was. Hij vroeg: ‘Wilt u gezond worden?’ De zieke man antwoordde Hem: ‘Ja, Here, maar ik heb niemand die mij het bad inhelpt als het water in beweging komt. En als ik het alleen probeer, ben ik altijd te laat.’ Jezus zei tegen hem: ‘Sta op! Pak uw matras en loop!’ De man werd direct gezond. Hij pakte zijn matras op en liep!

Nu was het die dag sabbat. 10 Daarom zeiden de Joden tegen de man die net genezen was: ‘Het is sabbat! Dan mag u die matras niet dragen.’ 11 Hij antwoordde: ‘De man die mij genezen heeft, zei dat ik mijn matras moest oppakken en lopen.’ 12 ‘Wie was dat?’ vroegen zij. 13 De man wist het niet, omdat Jezus ongemerkt was weggegaan toen de mensen van alle kanten kwamen aanlopen.

14 Later ontmoette Jezus hem in de tempel en zei tegen hem: ‘Nu u gezond bent geworden, wil Ik u dit nog zeggen: zondig niet meer, want anders zal u iets ergers overkomen.’ 15 De man verliet de tempel en vertelde de Joden dat het Jezus was die hem had genezen. 16 Omdat Jezus dat op de sabbat had gedaan, wilden de Joden Hem straffen. 17 Maar Jezus verdedigde Zich met de woorden: ‘Mijn Vader werkt voortdurend en Ik dus ook.’ 18 Omdat Hij dat gezegd had, wilden zij Hem doden. Hij had niet alleen iets gedaan wat volgens hen op de sabbat niet mocht, Hij had nu ook nog God zijn eigen Vader genoemd. Daarmee beweerde Hij dus aan God gelijk te zijn.

19 ‘Het is waar wat Ik zeg,’ zei Jezus. ‘De Zoon kan niets uit Zichzelf. Hij doet alleen wat zijn Vader Hem voordoet. In feite doet de Zoon hetzelfde als zijn Vader. 20 De Vader houdt van de Zoon en laat Hem steeds zien wat Hij doet. De Vader zal Hem nog grotere dingen laten doen. U zult uw ogen nauwelijks kunnen geloven. 21 Zoals de Vader de doden levend maakt, zo zal ook de Zoon levend maken wie Hij wil. 22 De Vader spreekt geen oordeel uit, maar heeft zijn Zoon opgedragen in zijn plaats recht te spreken. 23 Daarom moet iedereen even veel eer geven aan de Zoon als aan de Vader. Wie de Zoon niet eert, eert ook de Vader niet die Hem gestuurd heeft.

24 Het is zoals Ik zeg: wie naar mijn woorden luistert en gelooft in Hem die Mij gestuurd heeft, heeft eeuwig leven. Over zo iemand wordt geen oordeel uitgesproken, maar die is overgeplaatst uit de dood in het leven. 25 Geloof Mij: er komt een tijd dat de doden de stem van de Zoon van God zullen horen. Die tijd is er nu al. Wie naar de Zoon van God luisteren, zullen leven. 26 De Vader heeft leven in Zichzelf. Hij heeft deze macht ook aan zijn Zoon gegeven, zodat Hij ook leven in Zichzelf heeft. 27 Ook gaf Hij Hem de macht om recht te spreken over de mensen omdat Hij de Mensenzoon geworden is.

28 Verbaas u niet hierover. Eens zullen alle doden zijn stem horen. 29 Dan zullen zij uit hun graf opstaan en wie het goede hebben gedaan, zullen leven. Maar wie het slechte hebben gedaan, zullen veroordeeld worden.

30 Ik kan niets uit Mijzelf doen. Ik oordeel zoals God het Mij zegt. Mijn oordeel is eerlijk en rechtvaardig. Het gaat Mij niet om wat Ik wil maar om wat God wil, want Hij heeft Mij gestuurd.

31 Als Ik iets over Mijzelf zeg, is dat niet geloofwaardig. 32 Maar er is een Ander die over Mij getuigt dat Ik de waarheid spreek en Ik weet dat Hij gelijk heeft. 33 U heeft mensen naar Johannes de Doper gestuurd om te horen wat hij zei. En hij heeft niets dan de waarheid gesproken. 34 Nu heb Ik het getuigenis van een mens niet nodig. Ik herinner u er alleen maar aan, omdat Ik wil dat u gered wordt en zult leven. 35 Johannes was een helder schijnende lamp en u hebt een korte tijd van dat licht genoten. 36 Maar Ik heb een getuigenis dat meer waarde heeft dan dat van Johannes. Denk eens aan de wonderen die de Vader Mij laat doen. Die zijn het bewijs dat Hij Mij gestuurd heeft. 37 Daarmee is Hij mijn getuige, hoewel u Hem nog nooit hebt gezien of gehoord. 38 Wat de Vader zegt, bereikt u niet werkelijk. Want u gelooft Mij niet, hoewel Ik door Hem gestuurd ben. 39 U leest in de boeken van Mozes en de profeten omdat u denkt daarin eeuwig leven te vinden. Al die boeken getuigen over Mij. 40 En toch wilt u niet bij Mij komen om eeuwig leven te vinden.

41 Eer van mensen vind Ik niet belangrijk, 42 omdat Ik weet hoe u bent: u hebt de liefde van God niet in u. 43 Ik ben gekomen om mijn Vader te vertegenwoordigen en u ontvangt Mij niet. Maar wie uit zichzelf komt, zult u wel ontvangen. 44 U vindt het zo belangrijk wat de mensen van u zeggen dat u vergeet dat het erom gaat wat God van u denkt. Daarom kunt u niet in Mij geloven. 45 Denk maar niet dat Ik u bij de Vader zal aanklagen. Dat doet Mozes, op wie u uw hoop gevestigd hebt. 46 Maar u hebt hem niet echt geloofd. Anders zou u Mij ook geloven. Mozes heeft immers geschreven dat Ik zou komen? 47 Als u niet gelooft wat hij heeft geschreven, hoe zult u dan geloven wat Ik zeg?’

The Third Sign: Healing the Sick

After this, a Jewish festival took place, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.(A) By the Sheep Gate(B) in Jerusalem there is a pool, called Bethesda[a] in Hebrew, which has five colonnades.[b] Within these lay a large number of the sick—blind, lame, and paralyzed [—waiting for the moving of the water, because an angel would go down into the pool from time to time and stir up the water. Then the first one who got in after the water was stirred up recovered from whatever ailment he had].[c]

One man was there who had been sick for 38 years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had already been there a long time,(C) He said to him, “Do you want to get well?”

“Sir,”(D) the sick man answered, “I don’t have a man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, someone goes down ahead of me.”

“Get up,” Jesus told him, “pick up your mat and walk!” Instantly the man got well, picked up his mat, and started to walk.

Now that day was the Sabbath,(E) 10 so the Jews(F) said to the man who had been healed, “This is the Sabbath!(G) It’s illegal for you to pick up your mat.”

11 He replied, “The man who made me well(H) told me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’

12 “Who is this man who told you, ‘Pick up your mat and walk’?” they asked. 13 But the man who was cured did not know who it was,(I) because Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.[d]

14 After this, Jesus found him in the temple complex(J) and said to him, “See, you are well. Do not sin anymore, so that something worse doesn’t happen to you.” 15 The man went and reported to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.(K)

Honoring the Father and the Son

16 Therefore, the Jews began persecuting(L) Jesus[e] because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.(M) 17 But Jesus responded to them, “My Father(N) is still working, and I am working also.” 18 This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill Him:(O) Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

19 Then Jesus replied, “I assure you: The Son is not able to do anything on His own, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father[f] does, the Son also does these things in the same way.(P) 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows Him everything He is doing, and He will show Him greater works(Q) than these so that you will be amazed. 21 And just as the Father raises(R) the dead and gives them life, so the Son also gives life to anyone He wants to.(S) 22 The Father,(T) in fact, judges no one but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all people will honor the Son just as they honor the Father.(U) Anyone who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.(V)

Life and Judgment

24 “I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life(W) and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.

25 “I assure you: An hour is coming, and is now here,(X) when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.(Y) 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, so also He has granted to the Son(Z) to have life in Himself. 27 And He has granted Him the right to pass judgment,(AA) because He is the Son of Man.(AB) 28 Do not be amazed at this, because a time is coming when all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come out—those who have done good things, to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked things, to the resurrection of judgment.

30 “I can do nothing on My own. I judge only as I hear, and My judgment(AC) is righteous,(AD) because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.(AE)

Four Witnesses to Jesus

31 “If I testify about Myself, My testimony is not valid.[g] 32 There is Another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony He gives about Me is valid.[h](AF) 33 You have sent messengers to John, and he has testified to the truth.(AG) 34 I don’t receive man’s testimony, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 John[i](AH) was a burning and shining lamp,(AI) and for a time you were willing to enjoy his light.(AJ)

36 “But I have a greater testimony than John’s because of the works that the Father has given Me to accomplish.(AK) These very works I am doing testify about Me that the Father has sent(AL) Me. 37 The Father who sent Me has Himself testified(AM) about Me. You have not heard His voice at any time, and you haven’t seen His form.(AN) 38 You don’t have His word living in you, because you don’t believe the One He sent. 39 You pore over[j] the Scriptures(AO) because you think you have eternal life in them, yet they testify about Me.(AP) 40 And you are not willing(AQ) to come to Me(AR) so that you may have life.

41 “I do not accept glory(AS) from men, 42 but I know you—that you have no love for God(AT) within you. 43 I have come in My Father’s name,(AU) yet you don’t accept Me.(AV) If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44 How can you believe? While accepting glory from one another, you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only(AW) God.(AX) 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. Your accuser is Moses,(AY) on whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, because he wrote about Me. 47 But if you don’t believe his writings,(AZ) how will you believe My words?”(BA)

The Healing at the Pool

Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate(A) a pool, which in Aramaic(B) is called Bethesda[a] and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. [4] [b] One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”(C) At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.

The day on which this took place was a Sabbath,(D) 10 and so the Jewish leaders(E) said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”(F)

11 But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’

12 So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?”

13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.

14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning(G) or something worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jewish leaders(H) that it was Jesus who had made him well.

The Authority of the Son

16 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. 17 In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father(I) is always at his work(J) to this very day, and I too am working.” 18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill him;(K) not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.(L)

19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself;(M) he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son(N) and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these,(O) so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life,(P) even so the Son gives life(Q) to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,(R) 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.(S)

24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me(T) has eternal life(U) and will not be judged(V) but has crossed over from death to life.(W) 25 Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come(X) when the dead will hear(Y) the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life(Z) in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to judge(AA) because he is the Son of Man.

28 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming(AB) when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.(AC) 30 By myself I can do nothing;(AD) I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just,(AE) for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.(AF)

Testimonies About Jesus

31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.(AG) 32 There is another who testifies in my favor,(AH) and I know that his testimony about me is true.

33 “You have sent to John and he has testified(AI) to the truth. 34 Not that I accept human testimony;(AJ) but I mention it that you may be saved.(AK) 35 John was a lamp that burned and gave light,(AL) and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.

36 “I have testimony weightier than that of John.(AM) For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing(AN)—testify that the Father has sent me.(AO) 37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me.(AP) You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,(AQ) 38 nor does his word dwell in you,(AR) for you do not believe(AS) the one he sent.(AT) 39 You study[c] the Scriptures(AU) diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life.(AV) These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,(AW) 40 yet you refuse to come to me(AX) to have life.

41 “I do not accept glory from human beings,(AY) 42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44 How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God[d]?(AZ)

45 “But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses,(BA) on whom your hopes are set.(BB) 46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.(BC) 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”(BD)

After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.

34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.

35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.

39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

41 I receive not honour from men.

42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.

47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Giayo ni Jesus ang Tawo sa Betesda

Human niadto, miadto si Jesus sa Jerusalem aron sa pagtambong sa usa ka pista sa mga Judio. Didto sa paril sa Jerusalem may usa ka pultahan nga agianan sa mga karnero. Nakita siya ni Jesus nga nagahigda didto, ug nahibalo si Jesus nga ang iyang sakit ingon na niadto kadugay. Busa miingon si Jesus kaniya, “Gusto mo ba nga mamaayo?” Mitubag ang masakiton, “Unta, sir, apan walay tawo nga modala kanako didto sa tubig kon tandogon na sa anghel. Samtang nagpadulong pa lang ako sa tubig maunhan na ako kanunay sa uban.” Miingon si Jesus kaniya, “Bangon, dad-a ang imong banig ug lakaw.” Diha-diha dayon naayo ang tawo sa iyang sakit, ug gidala niya ang iyang banig ug milakaw.

Nahitabo kini sa Adlaw nga Igpapahulay. 10 Busa miingon ang mga tigdumala sa mga Judio ngadto sa tawo nga giayo, “Hoy, dili ba Adlaw nga Igpapahulay karon, ug sumala sa atong kasugoan dili mahimong magtrabaho bisan sa pagdala sa imong banig?” 11 Miingon ang tawo nga giayo. “Ang tawo nga nagaayo kanako mao ang nagsugo nga dad-on ko ang akong banig ug molakaw.” 12 Busa gipangutana nila siya kon kinsa ang tawo nga nagsugo kaniya sa paglakaw ug pagdala sa iyang banig. 13 Apan wala siya makaila kon kinsa ang nagaayo kaniya, kay nawala man dayon si Jesus tungod sa kadaghan sa mga tawo.

14 Didto sa templo nakita pag-usab ni Jesus ang tawo nga iyang giayo ug miingon si Jesus kaniya, “O, maayo ka na karon. Ayaw na pagpakasala, kay basin ug mas daotan pa unya ang mahitabo kanimo.” 15 Milakaw dayon ang tawo ug miadto sa mga tigdumala sa mga Judio. Gisultihan niya sila nga si Jesus mao ang nagaayo kaniya. 16 Busa sukad niadto, ang kadagkoan sa mga Judio nagsugod na sa paglutos kang Jesus, tungod kay nang-ayo siya sa Adlaw nga Igpapahulay.

17 Apan may katarungan si Jesus. Miingon siya kanila, “Nagapadayon ang akong Amahan sa iyang buluhaton, busa nagapadayon usab ako.” 18 Tungod niining gisulti ni Jesus misamot ang tinguha sa kadagkoan sa mga Judio nga patyon siya, tungod kay dili lang nga gilapas niya ang kasugoan mahitungod sa Adlaw nga Igpapahulay, kondili miingon pa siya nga ang Dios mao gayod ang iyang Amahan, nga nagkahulogan nga gipakasama niya ang iyang kaugalingon sa Dios.

Ang Gahom sa Anak sa Dios

19 Busa miingon si Jesus kanila, “Sa pagkatinuod, sultihan ko kamo nga ako nga Anak sa Dios wala gayoy mahimo kon ako lang, kondili kon unsa ang akong nakita nga gibuhat sa akong Amahan mao usab kana ang akong buhaton. Busa kon unsa ang gibuhat sa akong Amahan, mao usab kana ang akong buhaton isip Anak. 20 Pinangga sa Amahan ang iyang Anak, busa gipakita niya kanako nga iyang Anak ang tanan nga iyang gibuhat. Ug labaw pa gayod niini ang ipakita niya kanako nga akong himuon aron matingala kamong tanan. 21 Kon ang Amahan magbanhaw sa mga patay ug maghatag kanila ug kinabuhi, ako nga iyang Anak maghatag usab ug kinabuhi kang bisan kinsa nga akong buot hatagan. 22 Ang Amahan dili mohukom sa mga tawo; kondili ako nga iyang Anak mao ang gihatagan sa katungod sa paghukom, 23 aron ang tanan mopasidungog sa Anak sama sa ilang pagpasidungog sa Amahan. Busa ang wala nagapasidungog kanako wala usab nagapasidungog sa Amahan nga nagpadala kanako.

24 “Sa pagkatinuod, sultihan ko kamo nga ang tawo nga nagatuman sa akong mga pulong ug nagatuo sa nagpadala kanako may kinabuhi nga walay kataposan. Dili na siya silotan tungod kay nakalatas na siya sa kamatayon ngadto sa kinabuhi. 25 Sa pagkatinuod, sultihan ko kamo nga moabot ang panahon, ug miabot na gani, nga ang mga patay[c] makadungog sa pulong[d] sa Anak sa Dios, ug ang magpatalinghog sa iyang pulong mabuhi. 26 Ingon nga ang Amahan may gahom sa paghatag ug kinabuhi, ako nga iyang Anak makahatag usab niana nga kinabuhi, kay gihatagan niya ako ug gahom sa paghatag niana sa mga tawo. 27 Gihatagan usab niya ako ug gahom sa paghukom tungod kay ako mao ang Anak sa Tawo. 28 Ayaw kamo katingala niini, kay moabot ang panahon nga ang tanang mga patay makadungog sa akong tingog, 29 ug manggawas sila sa ilang lubnganan. Ang mga maayo ug binuhatan banhawon ug hatagan ug kinabuhi nga walay kataposan, ug ang mga daotan ug binuhatan banhawon usab apan silotan.”

Ang mga Nagpamatuod bahin kang Jesus

30 Midugang si Jesus sa pag-ingon, “Wala gayod akoy mahimo kon ako lang. Tinuod nga nagahukom ako, apan ang akong paghukom sumala sa gisulti sa akong Amahan kanako. Busa ang akong paghukom matarong tungod kay wala ako nagahimo sa akong kaugalingong kabubut-on, kondili ang kabubut-on sa nagpadala kanako. 31 Kon ako lang ang mosulti mahitungod sa akong kaugalingon makaduda kamo sa akong gisulti. 32 Apan adunay usa nga nagapamatuod mahitungod kanako, ug nasayod ako nga ang iyang gisulti kasaligan. 33 Si Juan nga tigbautismo nagpamatuod usab mahitungod kanako. Dili ba aduna man kamoy gisugo didto kang Juan aron sa pagpangutana kaniya? Ug nagsulti siya sa kamatuoran. 34 Hinuon wala ako magkinahanglan sa pagpamatuod sa tawo mahitungod kanako. Gihisgotan ko lang si Juan aron nga motuo kamo kanako ug maluwas. 35 Si Juan sama sa suga nga misiga ug midan-ag; ug nalipay kamo sa iyang pagdan-ag bisan sa hamubong panahon lang. 36 Apan may nagapamatuod pa gayod mahitungod kanako nga labaw pa kang Juan. Kini walay lain kondili ang mga buluhaton nga gibuhat ko nga ginapabuhat sa Amahan kanako. Nagapamatuod kini nga ang Amahan mao ang nagpadala kanako. 37 Ug ang Amahan nga nagpadala kanako mao mismo ang nagpamatuod mahitungod kanako. Apan wala gayod ninyo siya makita o madungog nga nagasulti, 38 ug wala usab ninyo dawata ang iyang pulong, tungod kay wala kamo motuo kanako nga iyang gipadala. 39 Ginatun-an ninyo pag-ayo ang Kasulatan kay nagahuna-huna kamo nga sa ingon niini nga pamaagi maangkon ninyo ang kinabuhi nga walay kataposan. Ang Kasulatan mao ang nagapamatuod mahitungod kanako. 40 Apan midumili gihapon kamo sa pagduol kanako aron unta maangkon ninyo ang kinabuhi.

41 “Wala ko kinahanglana ang pagdayeg sa mga tawo. 42 Nakaila ako kaninyo ug nahibalo ako nga sulod sa inyong kasingkasing wala kamoy paghigugma sa Dios. 43 Mianhi ako nga may gahom gikan sa Amahan, apan wala kamo modawat kanako. Apan kon adunay moanhi sa iyang kaugalingon nga gahom, siya hinuon ang inyong dawaton. 44 Unsaon man ninyo pagtuo kanako kon ang pagdayeg lang sa inyong isigka-tawo ang mahinungdanon kaninyo ug wala ninyo tinguhaa ang pagdayeg nga gikan sa matuod nga Dios? 45 Ayaw ninyo huna-hunaa nga ako ang mosumbong kaninyo sa Amahan. Si Moises mismo nga inyong gilaoman mao ang mosumbong kaninyo. 46 Kon tinuod nga mituo kamo kang Moises, motuo unta usab kamo kanako, tungod kay si Moises mismo nagsulat mahitungod kanako. 47 Apan tungod kay wala kamo motuo sa iyang mga sinulat, dili usab kamo motuo sa akong gisulti kaninyo.”
