²⁴God is spirit,^(A) and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”^(B)

²⁵The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah^[a]^(C) is coming” (who is called Christ^(D)). “When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”

²⁶“I am He,”^(E) Jesus told her, “the One speaking to you.”

John 4:25 In the NT, the word Messiah translates the Gk word Christos (“Anointed One”), except here and in Jn 1:41 where it translates Messias.
