35 An eyewitness has testified, and his testimony is true; he knows[a] that he is speaking the truth, so that you also may [come to] believe.(A) 36 For this happened so that the scripture passage might be fulfilled:
“Not a bone of it will be broken.”(B)
37 And again another passage says:
“They will look upon him whom they have pierced.”(C)

- 19:38–42 In the first three gospels there is no anointing on Friday. In Matthew and Luke the women come to the tomb on Sunday morning precisely to anoint Jesus.

35 The man who saw it(A) has given testimony, and his testimony is true.(B) He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled:(C) “Not one of his bones will be broken,”[a](D) 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”[b](E)
