Het antwoord van Bildad
8 Toen zei Bildad, de vriend uit Suach, tegen Job:
2 Wanneer houd je eens op met die onzin?
Hoelang zul je nog tekeer gaan als een orkaan?
3 Wil je soms zeggen dat God onrechtvaardig is?
Zou de Almachtige God oneerlijk zijn?
4 Je kinderen zullen Hem wel ongehoorzaam zijn geweest,
en daarvoor heeft Hij hen gestraft.
5 Maar als jij nu naar God toe gaat
en Hem om genade smeekt,
6 als jijzelf helemaal niets verkeerds hebt gedaan,
dan zal Hij heus wel voor je opkomen.
Dan zal Hij zorgen dat het weer goed gaat met je, omdat je dat verdient.
7 Dan zul je zien dat het in de toekomst nog beter met je zal gaan
dan je het vroeger ooit gehad hebt.
8 Vraag het maar aan de oude mensen.
En ga maar na hoe het met hun voorouders is gegaan.
9 Maar wij leven nog maar pas en weten niets.
Wij zijn pas heel kort op deze aarde.
10 Maar de oude mensen zullen het je vertellen.
Ze zullen uit hun hart spreken.
11 Kan papyrus groeien als er geen moeras is?
Kan riet groeien zonder water?
12 Nee, het zou sneller verdrogen dan andere grassen.
Het zou verdroogd zijn voordat je het ergens voor had kunnen gebruiken.
13 Mensen die zich niets van God aantrekken, zijn als riet zonder water.
Plotseling is het afgelopen met hen.
14 Dat waar zo iemand op vertrouwt,
blijkt stuk te gaan onder zijn handen.
Het is alsof hij vertrouwt op een huis van spinrag.
15 Hij vertrouwt op dat huis, maar het stort in.
Hij probeert het overeind te houden, maar het zakt in elkaar.
16 Hij is als een sappige boom die in de volle zon staat.
Zijn takken groeien breed uit in zijn tuin.
17 Zijn wortels vinden water in de grond.
Ze boren zich tussen de stenen door.
18 Maar als de boom uit de grond wordt gerukt, mist de grond hem niet.
Net zó mist niemand zo'n mens als God hem uit het leven wegrukt.
19 Dat is alles wat het leven hem heeft gegeven.
Er komt in zijn plaats vanzelf wel iemand anders.
20 Luister: mensen die leven zoals God het wil,
zal Hij nooit in de steek laten.
Maar slechte mensen helpt Hij niet.
21 Op een dag zal Hij ervoor zorgen dat je weer kan lachen.
Hij zal ervoor zorgen dat je weer zal kunnen juichen.
22 Maar de mensen die nu je vijanden zijn,
zullen bedrogen uitkomen.
Het zal slecht aflopen met de mensen die zich niets van God aantrekken.

De reactie van Bildad
8 Toen zei Bildad uit Suach tegen Job:
2 ‘Hoe lang ga je zo nog door, Job, en blaas je woorden uit als een stormwind?
3 Wil je zeggen dat God onrechtvaardig is?
4 Als jouw kinderen tegen Hem gezondigd hebben, heeft Hij hen terecht gestraft.
5 Maar als je God oprecht zoekt en de Almachtige om genade smeekt,
6 als jij rein en oprecht bent, zal Hij opstaan, opnieuw voor je zorgen en jou je eigen plaats en woning teruggeven.
7 Dan zal het verleden maar klein en gering schijnen, maar je toekomst zal groots zijn.
8 Kijk eens naar de geschiedenis, leer toch van wat eerder heeft plaatsgehad.
9 Wij werden gisteren geboren en weten haast niets, onze tijd op aarde glijdt als een schaduw voorbij.
10 Van de wijsheid van vroegere generaties kun je veel leren. Luister naar hun ervaringen.
11-13 Papyrus zal zonder moeras niet kunnen groeien, net zomin als riet zonder water. Als het groen op het veld staat, verdort het sneller dan gras, nog voordat het gemaaid is. Zo gaat het ook met hen die God vergeten, de hoop van de goddeloze wordt teniet gedaan.
14 Een mens zonder God vertrouwt op een spinnenweb. Alles waarop hij steunt, stort onder hem ineen.
15 Als hij veilig denkt te zijn in zijn huis, stort het in.
16 In het zonlicht lijkt hij krachtig en vruchtbaar als een groene plant, zijn takken spreiden zich uit over de hele tuin.
17 Zijn wortels houden zich stevig vast aan een hoop stenen en wringen zich tussen die stenen door.
18 Maar als de plant van zijn plaats wordt weggerukt, wordt hij daar niet eens gemist.
19 Dat is alles wat hem te wachten staat. Een andere plant groeit op en neemt zijn plaats in.
20 Begrijp het dan toch! God verwerpt een oprechte man niet en evenmin geeft Hij voorspoed aan boosdoeners.
21 Eens zal Hij jouw mond weer laten lachen en je lippen zullen weer van vreugde juichen.
22 De mensen die jou haten, zullen met schaamte worden vervuld en de goddelozen zullen worden vernietigd.’

8 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2 How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?
3 Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?
4 If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;
5 If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;
6 If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
7 Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.
8 For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:
9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)
10 Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?
11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?
12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.
13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:
14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.
15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.
16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.
17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.
18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.
19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:
21 Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.
22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.

Bildad: Job Should Repent
8 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
2 “How long will you speak these things,
And the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?
3 (A)Does God subvert judgment?
Or does the Almighty pervert justice?
4 If (B)your sons have sinned against Him,
He has cast them away [a]for their transgression.
5 (C)If you would earnestly seek God
And make your supplication to the Almighty,
6 If you were pure and upright,
Surely now He would [b]awake for you,
And prosper your rightful dwelling place.
7 Though your beginning was small,
Yet your latter end would (D)increase abundantly.
8 “For(E) inquire, please, of the former age,
And consider the things discovered by their fathers;
9 For (F)we were born yesterday, and know [c]nothing,

8 书亚人比勒达回答说： 2 “这些话你要说到几时？口中的言语如狂风要到几时呢？ 3 神岂能偏离公平？全能者岂能偏离公义？ 4 或者你的儿女得罪了他，他使他们受报应。 5 你若殷勤地寻求神，向全能者恳求， 6 你若清洁正直，他必定为你起来，使你公义的居所兴旺。 7 你起初虽然微小，终久必甚发达。
8 “请你考问前代，追念他们的列祖所查究的。 9 （我们不过从昨日才有，一无所知，我们在世的日子好像影儿。） 10 他们岂不指教你，告诉你，从心里发出言语来呢？

11 “蒲草没有泥，岂能发长？芦荻没有水，岂能生发？ 12 尚青的时候，还没有割下，比百样的草先枯槁。 13 凡忘记神的人，景况也是这样。不虔敬人的指望要灭没， 14 他所仰赖的必折断，他所倚靠的是蜘蛛网。 15 他要倚靠房屋，房屋却站立不住；他要抓住房屋，房屋却不能存留。 16 他在日光之下发青，蔓子爬满了园子； 17 他的根盘绕石堆，扎入石地。 18 他若从本地被拔出，那地就不认识他，说：‘我没有见过你。’ 19 看哪，这就是他道中之乐，以后必另有人从地而生。
神不弃完人
20 “神必不丢弃完全人，也不扶助邪恶人。 21 他还要以喜笑充满你的口，以欢呼充满你的嘴。 22 恨恶你的要披戴惭愧，恶人的帐篷必归于无有。”
