Job’s Friends Are No Help

Then Job responded,

(A)Oh if only my grief were actually weighed
And laid in the balances together with my disaster!
For then it would be (B)heavier than the sand of the seas;
For that reason my words have been rash.
For the (C)arrows of the Almighty are within me,
[a]My spirit drinks their (D)poison;
The (E)terrors of God line up against me.
Does the (F)wild donkey bray over his grass,
Or does the ox low over his feed?
Can something tasteless be eaten without salt,
Or is there any taste in the [b]juice of an alkanet plant?
My soul (G)refuses to touch them;
They are like loathsome food to me.

“Oh, that my request might come to pass,
And that God would grant my hope!
Oh, that God would (H)decide to crush me,
That He would let loose His hand and cut me off!
10 But it is still my comfort,
And I rejoice in unsparing pain,
That I (I)have not [c]denied the words of the Holy One.
11 What is my strength, that I should wait?
And what is my end, that I should [d](J)endure?
12 Is my strength the strength of stones,
Or is my flesh bronze?
13 Is it that my (K)help is not within me,
And that a (L)good outcome is driven away from me?

14 “For the (M)despairing man there should be kindness from his friend;
So that he does not (N)abandon the [e]fear of the Almighty.
15 My brothers have acted (O)deceitfully like a [f]wadi,
Like the torrents of [g]wadis which drain away,
16 Which are darkened because of ice,
And into which the snow [h]melts.
17 When (P)they dry up, they vanish;
When it is hot, they disappear from their place.
18 The [i]paths of their course wind along,
They go up into wasteland and perish.
19 The caravans of (Q)Tema looked,
The travelers of (R)Sheba hoped for them.
20 They (S)were put to shame, for they had trusted,
They came there and were humiliated.
21 Indeed, you have now become such,
(T)You see terrors and are afraid.
22 Have I said, ‘Give me something,’
Or, ‘Offer a bribe for me from your wealth,’
23 Or, ‘Save me from the hand of the enemy,’
Or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the tyrants’?

24 “Teach me, and (U)I will be silent;
And show me how I have done wrong.
25 How painful are honest words!
But what does your argument prove?
26 Do you intend to rebuke my words,
When the (V)words of one in despair belong to the wind?
27 You would even (W)cast lots for (X)the orphans,
And (Y)barter over your friend.
28 Now please look at me,
And see if I am (Z)lying to your face.
29 Please turn away, let there be no injustice;
Turn away, (AA)my righteousness is still in it.
30 Is there injustice on my tongue?
Does (AB)my palate not discern disasters?

Job Answers Eliphaz

Then Job answered and said,

(A)Oh that my vexation were actually weighed
And laid in the balances together with my destruction!
For then it would be (B)heavier than the sand of the seas;
Therefore my words have been rash.
For the (C)arrows of the Almighty are within me,
[a]Their (D)poison my spirit drinks;
The (E)horrors of God are arranged against me.
Does the (F)wild donkey bray over his grass,
Or does the ox low over his fodder?
Can something tasteless be eaten without salt,
Or is there any taste in the slime of a [b]yolk?
My soul (G)refuses to touch them;
They are like loathsome food to me.

“Oh that my request might come to pass,
And that God would grant my hope!
Would that God were (H)willing to crush me,
That He would release His hand and cut me off!
10 But it is still my comfort,
And I rejoice in unsparing pain,
That I (I)have not at all hidden away the words of the Holy One.
11 What is my strength, that I should wait?
And what is my end, that I should [c](J)endure?
12 Is my strength the strength of stones,
Or is my flesh bronze?
13 Is it that there is no (K)help within me,
And that the [d](L)success of sound wisdom is driven from me?

14 “For the (M)despairing man lovingkindness should be from his friend;
But he (N)forsakes the [e]fear of the Almighty.
15 My brothers have (O)betrayed me like a [f]wadi,
Like the torrents of [g]wadis which pass away,
16 Which grow dark because of ice
And upon which the snow hides itself.
17 When (P)they become waterless, they [h]are silent;
When it is hot, they vanish from their place.
18 The [i]paths of their course wind along;
They go up into a formless place and perish.
19 The caravans of (Q)Tema looked;
The travelers of (R)Sheba hoped for them.
20 They (S)were ashamed for they had trusted;
They came there and were humiliated.
21 Indeed, you have now become such;
(T)You see a terror and are afraid.
22 Have I said, ‘Give me something,’
Or, ‘Offer a bribe for me from your wealth,’
23 Or, ‘Give me escape from the hand of the adversary,’
Or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the ruthless men’?

24 “Instruct me, and (U)I will be silent;
And cause me to understand how I have erred.
25 How painful are upright words!
But what does your reproof prove?
26 Do you think to reprove my words,
Or think of the (V)words of one in despair as wind?
27 You would even (W)cast lots for (X)the orphans
And (Y)bargain over your friend.
28 So now be willing to face me,
And see if I (Z)lie to your face.
29 Now turn from this, let there be no unrighteousness;
Even turn from this, (AA)my righteousness is yet in it.
30 Is there unrighteousness on my tongue?
Cannot (AB)my palate discern [j]destruction?

Ayuub

Markaasaa Ayuub jawaabay oo wuxuu yidhi,
Hahe haddii dhibkayga la miisaami lahaa,
Oo masiibadayda kafado la wada saari lahaa!
Wuu ka sii cuslaan lahaa cammuudda badaha,
Sidaas daraaddeed hadalkaygii degdeg buu noqday.
Waayo, Ilaaha Qaadirka ah fallaadhihiisii ayaa igu dhex jira,
Oo naftayduna waabaydoodii way cabbaysaa,
Oo Ilaah cabsiintiisiina anigay igu soo kacdaa.
Dameerdibadeedku miyuu ciyaa markuu caws haysto?
Dibiguse miyuu ciyaa markii cunto la siiyo?
Wixii aan dhadhan lahayn miyaa cusbola'aan la cuni karaa?
Ukunta xabkeeduse miyuu dhadhan leeyahay?
Naftaydu way diidaa inay taabato,
Waxay ii yihiin sida cunto la naco oo kale.
Hahe bal maan helo waxa aan u baryootamo,
Oo Ilaah bal muu i siiyo waxa aan u xiisoodo!
Oo xataa Ilaah bal muu iska jeclaado inuu i burburiyo,
Oo bal muu gacantiisa iga sii daayo oo i baabbi'iyo!
10 Markaas waan istareexi lahaaye,
Oo waxaan u adkaysan lahaa xanuun aan ii tudhayn,
Waayo, ma aanan diidin Kan Quduuska ah erayadiisii.
11 Bal xooggaygu waa maxay inaan sugo aawadeed?
Aakhirkayguse waa maxay inaan dulqaato aawadeed?
12 War xooggaygu ma xoogga dhagaxyada baa?
Mise jidhkaygu ma naxaas baa?
13 War sow ma aha inaanan iscaawiyi karayn?
Sowse xigmaddu igama fogaan?
14 Kii diyaar u ah inuu qalbi jabo waa in saaxiibkiis u naxariisto
Waaba intaasoo uu ka tago cabsida Ilaaha Qaadirka ahe.
15 Walaalahay waa u khiyaano badnaayeen sida durdur oo kale,
Sida biyaha durdurrada ee iska baabba'a,
16 Kuwaasoo barafka la madoobaaday,
Oo uu barafka cad isku qariyo.
17 Markay qorraxoodaan way libdhaan,
Oo markay kululaadaanna meeshooday ka baabba'aan.
18 Kuwa safraa gees bay uga leexdaan,
Waxay u baxaan xagga cidlada oo halkaasay ku dhintaan.
19 Waxaa fiiriyey kuwa Teemaa ka safray,
Oo socotooyinkii Shebaa ayaa fishay.
20 Way ceeboobeen, waayo, way rajeeyeen,
Halkaasay yimaadeen, oo way hungoobeen.
21 Waayo, hadda idinku sidaasaad ii noqoteen,
Waxaad aragteen belaayo, waanad baqdeen.
22 Bal anigu miyaan idhi, Wax i sii?
Amase, Maalkaaga hadiyad iiga keen?
23 Amase, Cadowga gacantiisa iga samatabbixi?
Amase, Iga furo gacanta kan i dulma?
24 Bal wax i bar, oo anna waan iska aamusayaa;
Oo i garansii wixii aan ku qaldamay.
25 Erayo runu xoog badanaa!
Laakiinse bal canaantiinna muranka ahu maxay caddaysaa?
26 Ma waxaad u malaynaysaan inaad erayo canaanataan?
Maxaa yeelay, kii quustay hadalkiisu waa sida dabayl oo kale.
27 Waxaad saami u ridan lahaydeen maalka agoonta,
Oo saaxiibkiinna waad ka faa'iidaysan lahaydeen.
28 Haddaba raalli ahaada oo bal i fiiriya,
Waayo, sida runta ah been idiin sheegi maayo.
29 Haddaba waan idin baryayaaye iska noqda, yaan caddaaladla'aanu dhicin,
Ee mar kale iska noqda, waayo, xaalkaygu waa xaq.
30 War ma caddaaladla'aan baa carrabkayga saaran?
Mase carrabkaygaan waxyaalo xunxun dhadhamin karin?
