10 “I am weary of living. Let me complain freely. I will speak in my sorrow and bitterness. 2 I will say to God, ‘Don’t just condemn me—tell me why you are doing it. 3 Does it really seem right to you to oppress and despise me, a man you have made; and to send joy and prosperity to the wicked? 4-7 Are you unjust[a] like men? Is your life so short that you must hound me for sins you know full well I’ve not committed? Is it because you know no one can save me from your hand?
8 “‘You have made me, and yet you destroy me. 9 Oh, please remember that I’m made of dust—will you change me back again to dust so soon? 10 You have already poured me from bottle to bottle like milk and curdled me like cheese. 11 You gave me skin and flesh and knit together bones and sinews. 12 You gave me life and were so kind and loving to me, and I was preserved by your care.
13-14 “‘Yet all the time your real motive in making me was to destroy me if I sinned, and to refuse to forgive my iniquity. 15 Just the slightest wickedness, and I am done for. And if I’m good, that doesn’t count. I am filled with frustration. 16 If I start to get up off the ground, you leap upon me like a lion and quickly finish me off. 17 Again and again you witness against me and pour out an ever-increasing volume of wrath upon me and bring fresh armies against me.
18 “‘Why then did you even let me be born? Why didn’t you let me die at birth? 19 Then I would have been spared this miserable existence. I would have gone directly from the womb to the grave. 20-21 Can’t you see how little time I have left? Oh, leave me alone that I may have a little moment of comfort before I leave for the land of darkness and the shadow of death, never to return— 22 a land as dark as midnight, a land of the shadow of death where only confusion reigns and where the brightest light is dark as midnight.’”

10 “(A)My soul is loathed by my life;
I will abandon all restraint in myself to (B)my complaint;
I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
2 I will say to God, ‘(C)Do not account me as wicked;
Let me know why You contend with me.
3 Is it good to You that You (D)oppress,
That You reject (E)the labor of Your hands,
And [a]cause (F)the counsel of the wicked to shine forth?
4 Have You eyes of flesh?
Or do You (G)see as a mortal man sees?
5 Are Your days as the days of a mortal man,
Or (H)Your years as man’s years,
6 That (I)You should seek for my guilt
And search after my sin?
7 According to Your knowledge (J)I am indeed not wicked,
Yet there is (K)no [b]deliverer from Your hand.
8 ‘(L)Your hands fashioned and made me [c]altogether,
(M)And would You swallow me up?
9 Remember now, that You have made me as (N)clay;
And would You (O)turn me into dust again?
10 Did You not pour me out like milk
And curdle me like cheese,
11 Clothe me with skin and flesh,
And knit me together with bones and sinews?
12 You have (P)made alongside me life and lovingkindness;
And Your care has kept my spirit.
13 Yet (Q)these things You have concealed in Your heart;
I know that this is within You:
14 If I sin, then You would (R)take note of me
And (S)would not acquit me of my guilt.
15 If (T)I am wicked, woe to me!
And (U)if I am righteous, I dare not lift up my head.
I am sated with disgrace—so see my misery!
16 Should my head be set on high, (V)You would hunt me like a lion;
And again You would show Your (W)wonders against me.
17 You renew (X)Your witnesses against me
And increase Your vexation toward me;
[d](Y)Hardship after hardship is with me.
18 ‘(Z)Why then have You brought me out of the womb?
Would that I had breathed my last and no eye had seen me!
19 I should have been as though I had not been,
Carried from womb to tomb.’
20 Would He not cease (AA)for a few of my days?
[e](AB)Withdraw from me that I may have a little cheer
21 Before I go—(AC)and I shall not return—
(AD)To the land of darkness and (AE)shadow of death,
22 The land of utter gloom as the thick darkness itself,
Of the shadow of death, without order,
And which shines as the thick darkness.”

Haddaba ma boodhkaad dib iigu celinaysaa?
10 War sow sidii caano iima aadan daadin,
Oo sidii gadhoodh oo kale sow iigama aadan dhigin?
11 Waxaad i huwisay harag iyo hilib,
Oo waxaad dhammaantay igu dhistay lafo iyo seedo.
12 Waxaad i siisay nolol iyo raallinimo,
Oo booqashadaadiina waxay xannaanaysay ruuxayga.
13 Laakiin waxyaalahaas qalbigaaga waad ku qarisay;
Oo waan ogahay in taasu ay kugu jirto.
14 Haddaan dembaabo waad iska kay fiirsataa,
Oo ma aad caddaysid inaan dembi la'ahay.
15 Haddaan sharrow ahay, anaa iska hoogay,
Oo haddaan xaq ahayna, innaba madaxayga kor u qaadi maayo
Anigoo ceeb ka buuxa
Oo dhibaatadayda fiirinaya.
16 Oo haddii madaxaygu kor isu qaadona, waxaad ii ugaadhsataa sida libaax oo kale,
Oo haddana wax laga yaabo ayaad igu samaysaa.
17 Waxaad ii keensataa markhaatiyaal cusub,
Oo dhirifkaagana waad igu sii kordhisaa,
Oo hadba waxaad igu soo daysaa col iyo belaayo isu kay bedbeddela.
18 Bal maxaad iiga soo bixisay uurkii hooyaday?
Waxaa wanaagsanaan lahayd in naftu iga baxdo iyadoo aan iluna i arag!
19 Waxaa igu habboonaan lahayd inaan ahaado sidii wax aan jirin,
Oo waxaa ii roonaan lahayd in qabriga la ii qaado isla markii aan uurka hooyaday ka soo baxay.
20 War cimriga noloshaydu sow wax yar ma aha? Haddaba iska kay daa
Oo i dhaaf, aan in yar nastee,
21 Intaanan tegin meesha aanan ka soo noqonayn,
Oo ah dalka gudcur iyo hooska dhimashada,
22 Kaasoo ah gudcur qaro weyn oo ah sida mugdi dam ah,
Dalkaas oo ah hooska dhimashada, oo aan innaba nidaam lahayn,
Halkaas oo iftiinku yahay sida mugdi oo kale.

10 “I loathe my very life;(A)
therefore I will give free rein to my complaint
and speak out in the bitterness of my soul.(B)
2 I say to God:(C) Do not declare me guilty,
but tell me what charges(D) you have against me.(E)
3 Does it please you to oppress me,(F)
to spurn the work of your hands,(G)
while you smile on the plans of the wicked?(H)
4 Do you have eyes of flesh?
Do you see as a mortal sees?(I)
5 Are your days like those of a mortal
or your years like those of a strong man,(J)
6 that you must search out my faults
and probe after my sin(K)—
7 though you know that I am not guilty(L)
and that no one can rescue me from your hand?(M)
8 “Your hands shaped(N) me and made me.
Will you now turn and destroy me?(O)
9 Remember that you molded me like clay.(P)
Will you now turn me to dust again?(Q)
10 Did you not pour me out like milk
and curdle me like cheese,
11 clothe me with skin and flesh
and knit me together(R) with bones and sinews?
12 You gave me life(S) and showed me kindness,(T)
and in your providence(U) watched over(V) my spirit.
13 “But this is what you concealed in your heart,
and I know that this was in your mind:(W)
14 If I sinned, you would be watching me(X)
and would not let my offense go unpunished.(Y)
15 If I am guilty(Z)—woe to me!(AA)
Even if I am innocent, I cannot lift my head,(AB)
for I am full of shame
and drowned in[a] my affliction.(AC)
16 If I hold my head high, you stalk me like a lion(AD)
and again display your awesome power against me.(AE)
17 You bring new witnesses against me(AF)
and increase your anger toward me;(AG)
your forces come against me wave upon wave.(AH)
18 “Why then did you bring me out of the womb?(AI)
I wish I had died before any eye saw me.(AJ)
19 If only I had never come into being,
or had been carried straight from the womb to the grave!(AK)
20 Are not my few days(AL) almost over?(AM)
Turn away from me(AN) so I can have a moment’s joy(AO)
21 before I go to the place of no return,(AP)
to the land of gloom and utter darkness,(AQ)
22 to the land of deepest night,
of utter darkness(AR) and disorder,
where even the light is like darkness.”(AS)
