⁷ The new wine dries up^(A) and the vine withers;^(B)
    all the merrymakers groan.^(C)
8 The joyful timbrels^(D) are stilled,
    the noise^(E) of the revelers^(F) has stopped,
    the joyful harp^(G) is silent.^(H)
9 No longer do they drink wine^(I) with a song;
    the beer is bitter^(J) to its drinkers.
¹⁰ The ruined city^(K) lies desolate;^(L)
    the entrance to every house is barred.
¹¹ In the streets they cry out^(M) for wine;^(N)
    all joy turns to gloom,^(O)
    all joyful sounds are banished from the earth.
¹² The city is left in ruins,^(P)
    its gate^(Q) is battered to pieces.
¹³ So will it be on the earth
    and among the nations,
as when an olive tree is beaten,^(R)
    or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.^(S)

¹⁴ They raise their voices, they shout for joy;^(T)
    from the west^(U) they acclaim the Lord’s majesty.
¹⁵ Therefore in the east^(V) give glory^(W) to the Lord;
    exalt^(X) the name^(Y) of the Lord, the God of Israel,
    in the islands^(Z) of the sea.
¹⁶ From the ends of the earth^(AA) we hear singing:^(AB)
    “Glory^(AC) to the Righteous One.”^(AD)

But I said, “I waste away, I waste away!^(AE)
    Woe^(AF) to me!
The treacherous^(AG) betray!
    With treachery the treacherous betray!^(AH)”
¹⁷ Terror^(AI) and pit and snare^(AJ) await you,
    people of the earth.^(AK)
18 Whoever flees^(AL) at the sound of terror
    will fall into a pit;^(AM)
whoever climbs out of the pit
    will be caught in a snare.^(AN)

The floodgates of the heavens^(AO) are opened,
    the foundations of the earth shake.^(AP)
19 The earth is broken up,^(AQ)
    the earth is split asunder,^(AR)
    the earth is violently shaken.
²⁰ The earth reels like a drunkard,^(AS)
    it sways like a hut^(AT) in the wind;
so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion^(AU)
    that it falls^(AV)—never to rise again.^(AW)

²¹ In that day^(AX) the Lord will punish^(AY)
    the powers^(AZ) in the heavens above
    and the kings^(BA) on the earth below.
²² They will be herded together
    like prisoners^(BB) bound in a dungeon;^(BC)
they will be shut up in prison
    and be punished^[a] after many days.^(BD)
23 The moon will be dismayed,
    the sun^(BE) ashamed;
for the Lord Almighty will reign^(BF)
    on Mount Zion^(BG) and in Jerusalem,
    and before its elders—with great glory.^(BH)

“Give thanks to the Lord Almighty,
    for the Lord is good;^(C)
    his love endures forever.”^(D)
