Jeremiah 44

44 ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwelt in the land of Egypt, which dwelt at Migdol and at Tahpanhes and at Noph and in the country of Pathros, saying,
2 Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said: Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwells therein,
3 because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.
4 Howbeit I sent unto you all my slaves the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.
5 But they did not hearken, nor incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.
6 Therefore my fury and my anger was poured forth and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.
7 Therefore now thus hath the LORD, the God of the hosts, the God of Israel said: Why do ye commit this great evil against your souls, that ye be cut off, man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah. Why do ye not desire to have a remnant?
8 In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, where ye are gone to dwell. Why do ye cut yourselves off that ye might be a curse and a reproach to all the Gentiles of the earth?
9 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which was committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 They are not broken even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my rights, that I set before you and before your fathers.
11 Therefore thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil and to cut off all Judah.
12 And I will take the remnant of Judah that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to dwell there, and they shall all be consumed and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine; they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they shall be for an oath and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach.
13 For I will visit those that dwell in the land of Egypt as I visited Jerusalem with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence:
14 so that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to dwell there, shall escape or remain alive to return into the land of Judah, unto which they have a desire to return to dwell there; for none shall return but some fugitives.
15 ¶ Then all the men who knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,
16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.
17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes forth out of our own mouth to burn incense unto the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have lacked all things and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
20 ¶ Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people who had given him that answer, saying,
21 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them and did it not come into his mind?
22 So that the LORD could no longer bear because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation and an astonishment and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
23 Because ye have burned incense and because ye have sinned against the LORD and have not listened to the voice of the LORD nor walked in his law nor in his rights, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has come upon you, as at this day.
24 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
25 Thus hath spoken the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel, saying: Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her; ye will surely accomplish your vows and surely perform your vows.
26 Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, said the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD lives.
27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine until there is an end of them.
28 Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, so that all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to dwell there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.
29 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will visit you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:
30 thus hath the LORD said: Behold, I will give Pharaohhophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those that seek his soul; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his soul.

Jeremías profetiza a los judíos en Egipto
44 Jeremías recibió un mensaje acerca de todos los judíos que vivían en Migdol, Tafnes, Menfis y Patros, en la tierra de Egipto. Éste fue el mensaje:
2 «Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel: “Ustedes han visto todo el mal que traje sobre Jerusalén y sobre todas las ciudades de Judá. Como pueden ver, hoy se encuentran asoladas y no hay quien habite en ellas. 3 Esto sucedió por la maldad que ellos cometieron, la cual provocó mi enojo, pues se fueron a ofrecer incienso y a honrar a dioses ajenos, dioses que ni ellos ni ustedes ni sus padres habían conocido. 4 Una y otra vez envié a todos mis siervos, los profetas, para que les dijeran que no hicieran lo que yo detesto y me es tan repugnante. 5 Pero ellos no me hicieron caso ni oyeron ni se apartaron de su maldad, ni tampoco dejaron de ofrecer incienso a dioses ajenos. 6 Por eso ya no pude contener mi ira, y mi furor se derramó sobre las ciudades de Judá y por las calles de Jerusalén, las cuales quedaron destruidas y abandonadas hasta el día de hoy.”
7 »Ahora, pues, así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel: “¿Por qué cometen tan grande mal contra ustedes mismos? ¿Por qué han de ser borrados de entre Judá hombres y mujeres, jóvenes y niños de pecho, sin que les quede un sólo sobreviviente? 8 ¿Por qué me hacen enojar con las obras de sus manos y ofrecen incienso a dioses ajenos en Egipto, adonde han llegado para vivir? ¿Por qué quieren ser eliminados y acabar siendo motivo de maldición y de oprobio a todas las naciones de la tierra? 9 ¿Se han olvidado ya de las maldades de sus padres, las cuales cometieron en la tierra de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén? ¿O de las maldades de los reyes de Judá y de sus mujeres? 10 Hasta el día de hoy, ustedes no se han humillado ni han mostrado temor de mí. Tampoco han caminado en mi ley ni en mis estatutos, los cuales les expuse a ustedes y a sus padres.”
11 »Por tanto, así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel: “Para mal de ustedes, y para la destrucción de todo Judá, voy a darles la espalda. 12 A los sobrevivientes de Judá, esos que decidieron emigrar a Egipto para establecerse allí, en Egipto serán destruidos por completo. Morirán a filo de espada, o consumidos por el hambre. Desde el menor hasta el mayor, morirán a filo de espada, o de hambre, y serán objeto de execración y espanto, de maldición y oprobio. 13 Yo castigaré a los que viven en Egipto como antes castigué a los de Jerusalén: ¡con la espada, el hambre y la peste! 14 De los sobrevivientes de Judá que se internaron en Egipto para vivir allá, no habrá uno solo que escape. Ninguno de ellos quedará con vida para volver a la tierra de Judá, tierra por la cual suspiran y quisieran habitar. Sólo volverán unos cuantos fugitivos.”»
15 Todos los que sabían que sus mujeres habían ofrecido incienso a dioses ajenos, y toda la gran concurrencia de mujeres allí presentes, y todo el pueblo que vivía en Patros, en Egipto, le respondieron a Jeremías:
16 «Tú dices que nos has hablado en nombre del Señor, pero no vamos a hacerte caso. 17 Más bien, vamos a cumplir con la promesa que hemos hecho, de ofrecer incienso a la reina del cielo y derramar libaciones en su honor, como lo hemos hecho nosotros y lo hicieron nuestros padres, nuestros reyes y nuestros príncipes, en las ciudades de Judá y en las plazas de Jerusalén. Porque entonces teníamos abundancia de pan, y vivíamos alegres, y no sufrimos ninguna calamidad. 18 En cambio, desde que dejamos de ofrecer incienso a la reina del cielo y de derramarle libaciones, nos falta todo. ¡O nos matan a filo de espada, o nos morimos de hambre!»
19 Las mujeres dijeron:
«Cuando nosotras ofrecimos incienso a la reina del cielo, y le derramamos libaciones, o cuando le hicimos tortas para rendirle culto, ¿acaso lo hicimos sin el consentimiento de nuestros maridos?»
20 Jeremías dijo entonces a todo el pueblo, es decir, a todos los hombres y mujeres que le habían respondido:
21 «¿Y acaso el Señor no se acuerda? ¿Acaso no tiene presente en su memoria el incienso que ustedes y sus padres, y sus reyes y príncipes, y el pueblo de la tierra ofrecieron en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén? 22 Pero por causa de sus malas obras y de sus hechos repugnantes el Señor no pudo soportarlo más. Por eso su tierra quedó hecha un desierto, un motivo de espanto y de maldición, por eso se quedó deshabitada, como lo está hoy. 23 Y es que ustedes ofrecieron incienso y pecaron contra el Señor. No obedecieron su voz ni siguieron su ley ni sus estatutos y testimonios. Por eso hasta el día de hoy les ha sobrevenido este mal.»
24 Jeremías dijo también a todo el pueblo, y a todas las mujeres:
«Ustedes, gente de Judá que están en tierra de Egipto, oigan la palabra del Señor. 25 Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel: “Ustedes y sus mujeres lo han dicho con la boca, y lo han cumplido con las manos. Se han comprometido a cumplir sus votos de ofrecer incienso a la reina del cielo y derramarle libaciones. Pues bien, ¡confirmen sus votos, y pónganlos por obra!” 26 Ahora escuchen la palabra del Señor, todos ustedes, gente de Judá que habita en Egipto. El Señor ha dicho: “Juro por mi gran nombre, que nunca más nadie de Judá invocará mi nombre en Egipto. Nadie volverá a decir ‘¡Vive el Señor!’ 27 Yo los estoy vigilando, para su mal y no para su bien. Todos los hombres de Judá que ahora están en Egipto serán exterminados por la espada o por el hambre, hasta que perezcan por completo. 28 Los pocos sobrevivientes de Judá que han emigrado a Egipto, y que logren escapar de la espada, volverán de Egipto a Judá, y entonces sabrán la palabra de quién se cumplió, si la mía, o la de ellos. 29 Y para que sepan que mis palabras ciertamente permanecerán, para mal de ustedes, voy a darles una señal de que los castigaré en este lugar.”»

30 Así ha dicho el Señor:
«Voy a entregar en manos de sus enemigos al faraón Jofra, rey de Egipto. Voy a entregarlo en manos de los que quieren matarlo, así como entregué al rey Sedequías de Judá en manos de su enemigo Nabucodonosor, el rey de Babilonia,(A) que también quería matarlo.»
