²Thus says the Lord:

“Learn not the way of the nations,
nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens
because the nations are dismayed at them,

²This is what the Lord says:

“Do not learn the ways of the nations^(A)
or be terrified by signs^(B) in the heavens,
though the nations are terrified by them.

⁷“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as ^(A)the Gentiles do, for ^(B)they think that they will be heard ^(C)for their many words.

⁷And when you pray, do not keep on babbling^(A) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.^(B)
