The Testing of Your Faith
1 [a](A)James, a (B)bond-servant of God and (C)of the Lord Jesus Christ,
To (D)the twelve tribes who are [b](E)dispersed abroad: (F)Greetings.
2 (G)Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter (H)various [c]trials, 3 knowing that (I)the testing of your (J)faith produces [d](K)endurance. 4 And let [e](L)endurance have its perfect [f]result, so that you may be [g](M)perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 But if any of you (N)lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [h]without reproach, and (O)it will be given to him. 6 But he must (P)ask in faith (Q)without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, (R)driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a [i](S)double-minded man, (T)unstable in all his ways.
9 (U)Now the brother or sister of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; 10 but the rich person is to glory in his [j]humiliation, because (V)like [k]flowering grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with (W)its scorching heat and (X)withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so also the rich person, in the midst of his pursuits, will die out.
12 (Y)Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has [l]been approved, he will receive (Z)the crown of life which the Lord (AA)has promised to those who (AB)love Him. 13 No one is to say when he is tempted, “(AC)I am being tempted [m]by God”; for God cannot be tempted [n]by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then (AD)when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and (AE)sin, when it has run its course, brings forth death. 16 (AF)Do not be [o]deceived, (AG)my beloved brothers and sisters. 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is (AH)from above, coming down from (AI)the Father of lights, (AJ)with whom there is no variation or [p]shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of (AK)His will He (AL)gave us birth by (AM)the word of truth, so that we would be [q]a kind of (AN)first fruits [r]among His creatures.
19 [s](AO)You know this, (AP)my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, (AQ)slow to speak, and (AR)slow to anger; 20 for a man’s (AS)anger does not bring about the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore, (AT)ridding yourselves of all filthiness and all [t]that remains of wickedness, in [u]humility receive (AU)the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 (AV)But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his [v]natural face (AW)in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, [w]he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, (AX)the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but [x]an active doer, this person will be (AY)blessed in [y]what he does.
26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not [z](AZ)bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion (BA)in the sight of our God and Father is this: to (BB)visit (BC)orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained [aa]by (BD)the world.

1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dans la dispersion, salut!
2 Mes frères, regardez comme un sujet de joie complète les diverses épreuves auxquelles vous pouvez être exposés,
3 sachant que l'épreuve de votre foi produit la patience.
4 Mais il faut que la patience accomplisse parfaitement son oeuvre, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, sans faillir en rien.
5 Si quelqu'un d'entre vous manque de sagesse, qu'il l'a demande à Dieu, qui donne à tous simplement et sans reproche, et elle lui sera donnée.
6 Mais qu'il l'a demande avec foi, sans douter; car celui qui doute est semblable au flot de la mer, agité par le vent et poussé de côté et d'autre.
7 Qu'un tel homme ne s'imagine pas qu'il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur:
8 c'est un homme irrésolu, inconstant dans toutes ses voies.
9 Que le frère de condition humble se glorifie de son élévation.
10 Que le riche, au contraire, se glorifie de son humiliation; car il passera comme la fleur de l'herbe.
11 Le soleil s'est levé avec sa chaleur ardente, il a desséché l'herbe, sa fleur est tombée, et la beauté de son aspect a disparu: ainsi le riche se flétrira dans ses entreprises.
12 Heureux l'homme qui supporte patiemment la tentation; car, après avoir été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l'aiment.
13 Que personne, lorsqu'il est tenté, ne dise: C'est Dieu qui me tente. Car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et il ne tente lui-même personne.
14 Mais chacun est tenté quand il est attiré et amorcé par sa propre convoitise.
15 Puis la convoitise, lorsqu'elle a conçu, enfante le péché; et le péché, étant consommé, produit la mort.
16 Nous vous y trompez pas, mes frères bien-aimés:
17 toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait descendent d'en haut, du Père des lumières, chez lequel il n'y a ni changement ni ombre de variation.
18 Il nous a engendrés selon sa volonté, par la parole de vérité, afin que nous soyons en quelque sorte les prémices de ses créatures.
19 Sachez-le, mes frères bien-aimés. Ainsi, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à se mettre en colère;
20 car la colère de l'homme n'accomplit pas la justice de Dieu.
21 C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et tout excès de malice, recevez avec douceur la parole qui a été planté en vous, et qui peut sauver vos âmes.
22 Mettez en pratique la parole, et ne vous bornez pas à l'écouter, en vous trompant vous-mêmes par de faux raisonnements.
23 Car, si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir son visage naturel,
24 et qui, après s'être regardé, s'en va, et oublie aussitôt quel il était.
25 Mais celui qui aura plongé les regards dans la loi parfaite, la loi de la liberté, et qui aura persévéré, n'étant pas un auditeur oublieux, mais se mettant à l'oeuvre, celui-là sera heureux dans son activité.
26 Si quelqu'un croit être religieux, sans tenir sa langue en bride, mais en trompant son coeur, la religion de cet homme est vaine.
27 La religion pure et sans tache, devant Dieu notre Père, consiste à visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et à se préserver des souillures du monde.

1 神和主耶穌基督的僕人雅各，向散居各地的十二支派問安。 2 我的弟兄們，你們遭遇各種試煉的時候，都要看為喜樂； 3 因為知道你們的信心經過考驗，就產生忍耐。 4 但忍耐要堅持到底（“堅持到底”原文作“有完全的功效”），使你們可以完全，毫無缺乏。 5 你們中間若有人缺少智慧，就當向那厚賜眾人，而且不斥責人的 神祈求，他就必得著。 6 可是，他應該憑著信心祈求，不要有疑惑；因為疑惑的人，就像被風吹蕩翻騰的海浪。 7 那樣的人，不要想從主得到甚麼； 8 因為三心兩意的人，在他的一切道路上，都搖擺不定。
富貴榮華轉眼消逝
9 卑微的弟兄應當以高升為榮； 10 富足的也不應該以降卑為辱；因為他如同草上的花，必要過去。 11 太陽一出，熱風一吹，草必枯乾，花必凋謝，它的美容就消失了；富足的人也必在他的奔波經營中這樣衰落。
忍受試煉的人有福了
12 能忍受試煉的人，是有福的；因為他經過考驗之後，必得著生命的冠冕，這冠冕是主應許給愛他的人的。 13 人被試探，不可說“我被 神試探”；因為 神不能被惡試探，他也不試探任何人。 14 每一個人受試探，都是被自己的私慾所勾引誘惑的。 15 私慾懷了胎，就生出罪；罪長成了，就產生死亡。
16 我親愛的弟兄們，不要看錯了。 17 各樣美好的賞賜，各樣完備的恩賜，都是從上面、從眾光之父降下來的，他本身並沒有改變，也沒有轉動的影子。 18 他憑著自己的旨意，藉著真理的道生了我們，使我們作他所造的萬物中初熟的果子。
要作行道的人
19 我親愛的弟兄們，你們要知道，人人都應該快快地聽，慢慢地說，慢一點動怒； 20 因為人的忿怒並不能成全 神的義。 21 所以你們應當擺脫一切污穢和所有的邪惡，以溫柔的心領受 神栽種的道；這道能救你們的靈魂。
22 你們應該作行道的人，不要單作聽道的人，自己欺騙自己； 23 因為人若只作聽道的人，不作行道的人，他就像一個人對著鏡子看自己本來的面貌， 24 看過走開以後，馬上就忘記自己的樣子。 25 唯有詳細察看那使人自由的全備的律法，並且時常遵守的人，他不是聽了就忘記，而是實行出來，就必因自己所作的蒙福。
26 如果有人自以為虔誠，卻不約束他的舌頭，反而自己欺騙自己，這人的虔誠是沒有用的。 27 在父 神看來，純潔無玷污的虔誠，就是照顧患難中的孤兒寡婦，並且保守自己不被世俗所污染。
