Thomas Sees and Believes

²⁴ But Thomas^(A) (called “Twin”^[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ So the other disciples were telling him, “We’ve seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “If I don’t see the mark of the nails in his hands, put my finger into the mark of the nails,^(B) and put my hand into his side,^(C) I will never believe.”^(D)

²⁶ A week later his disciples were indoors again, and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Don’t be faithless, but believe.”^(E)

²⁸ Thomas responded to him, “My Lord and my God!”

²⁹ Jesus said, “Because you have seen me, you have believed.^[b] Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”^(F)

The Bereans Search the Scriptures

¹⁰ As soon as it was night, the brothers and sisters sent Paul and Silas away to Berea.^(A) Upon arrival, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. ¹¹ The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined^[a] the Scriptures^(B) daily to see if these things were so. ¹² Consequently, many of them believed, including a number of the prominent Greek women as well as men.

⁹ And I pray this: that your love^(A) will keep on growing^(B) in knowledge and every kind of discernment,^{(C) 10} so that you may approve the things that are superior^(D) and may be pure^(E) and blameless^(F) in the day of Christ,^{(G) 11} filled with the fruit^(H) of righteousness^(I) that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory^(J) and praise of God.
