Primeiro discurso de Bildade
8 Então Bildade, de Suá, respondeu:
2 “Até quando vai continuar falando dessa maneira?
Quanto tempo mais vai continuar falando como se a sua boca fosse um furacão?
3 Deus nunca distorce a justiça.
O Todo-Poderoso faz sempre o bem.
4 Quando os seus filhos pecaram contra Deus,
ele os castigou como mereciam, pelo mal que fizeram.
5 Mas se procurar a Deus diligentemente,
se pedir misericórdia ao Todo-Poderoso,
6 se for justo e bom,
então ele tomará conta de você
e o restaurará ao lugar que você merece.
7 O que tinha anteriormente não será nada
comparado com o que terá no futuro.
8 “Pergunte às gerações anteriores
e aprenda tudo o que puder dos seus antepassados,
9 porque nós só nascemos ontem e não sabemos nada,
a nossa vida na terra é como uma sombra.
10 Deixe que eles o ensinem,
que eles falem com você.
Então talvez eles lhe ensinem algo do que aprenderam.
11 O papiro não cresce fora do pântano
e o junco não pode crescer onde não há água.
12 Eles murcham antes das outras plantas,
murcham quando ainda estão verdes e sem que ninguém os tenha cortado.
13 Pois assim também é a vida daqueles que se esquecem de Deus,
a esperança de quem não confia em Deus será destruída.
14 Quem confia em coisas fracas,
agarra-se a teias de aranha.
15 Se ele encostar na casa, ela cairá em cima dele,
se ele se agarrar a ela, ele não se aguentará em pé.
16 O infiel é como uma planta bem regada à luz do sol,
os seus ramos se espalham pelo jardim
17 e as suas raízes estendem-se por entre as pedras
e penetram os muros das casas,
18 mas se a planta for arrancada do seu lugar,
então esse lugar não saberá quem ela é
e dirá: ‘Nunca a vi antes’.
19 Assim termina a sua vida alegre[a],
e da terra nascem outras plantas.
20 “Deus não abandona as pessoas boas,
nem ajuda as más.
21 Ele fará você rir de novo
e dar gritos de alegria,
22 mas cobrirá de vergonha os seus inimigos
e a tenda onde eles moram desaparecerá”.

8 Then Bildad the Shuhite(A) replied:
2 “How long will you say such things?(B)
Your words are a blustering wind.(C)
3 Does God pervert justice?(D)
Does the Almighty pervert what is right?(E)
4 When your children sinned against him,
he gave them over to the penalty of their sin.(F)
5 But if you will seek God earnestly
and plead(G) with the Almighty,(H)
6 if you are pure and upright,
even now he will rouse himself on your behalf(I)
and restore you to your prosperous state.(J)
7 Your beginnings will seem humble,
so prosperous(K) will your future be.(L)
8 “Ask the former generation(M)
and find out what their ancestors learned,
9 for we were born only yesterday and know nothing,(N)
and our days on earth are but a shadow.(O)
10 Will they not instruct(P) you and tell you?
Will they not bring forth words from their understanding?(Q)
11 Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh?(R)
Can reeds(S) thrive without water?
12 While still growing and uncut,
they wither more quickly than grass.(T)
13 Such is the destiny(U) of all who forget God;(V)
so perishes the hope of the godless.(W)
14 What they trust in is fragile[a];
what they rely on is a spider’s web.(X)
15 They lean on the web,(Y) but it gives way;
they cling to it, but it does not hold.(Z)
16 They are like a well-watered plant in the sunshine,
spreading its shoots(AA) over the garden;(AB)
17 it entwines its roots around a pile of rocks
and looks for a place among the stones.
18 But when it is torn from its spot,
that place disowns(AC) it and says, ‘I never saw you.’(AD)
19 Surely its life withers(AE) away,
and[b] from the soil other plants grow.(AF)
