A „Vesszőszál”, akin megnyugszik az Örökkévaló Szelleme
11 Vesszőszál sarjad Isai[a] törzsének tövéből,
friss hajtás hajt ki gyökeréből,[b]
2 akin megnyugszik az Örökkévaló Szelleme:
bölcsesség és értelem Szelleme,
tanács és erő Szelleme,
az Örökkévaló ismeretének és félelmének Szelleme.
3 Az Örökkévaló tiszteletében és félelmében leli örömét.
Nem aszerint ítél, amit szemével lát,
nem aszerint dönt, amit fülével hall,
4 hanem igazságosan uralkodik a szegények fölött,
és helyesen dönt a föld alázatosainak ügyében.
Szavának botjával lesújt a földre,
ajkának leheletével megöli a gonosztevőket.
5 Derekára köti az igazságosságot, mint övet,
körülövezi magát hűséggel.
6 Uralma alatt farkas és bárány együtt lakik,
a párduc és kecskegida együtt heverésznek,
a borjú, oroszlán és hízott birka együtt legelnek,
s egy fiúcska terelgeti őket.
7 Tehén és medve együtt legelésznek,
s kicsinyeik békésen játszanak egymással.
Az oroszlán is szénát eszik, mint az ökör.
8 A csecsemő nyugodtan játszik a viperalyuknál,
a kisgyermek bátran nyúl a mérges kígyóhoz,
9 mert szent hegyemen senki sem árt a másiknak,
se nem pusztít.
Mert az Örökkévaló ismeretével betelik a föld,
ahogy a tengert a víz beborítja.

The Branch From Jesse
11 A shoot(A) will come up from the stump(B) of Jesse;(C)
from his roots a Branch(D) will bear fruit.(E)
2 The Spirit(F) of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom(G) and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,(H)
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
3 and he will delight in the fear(I) of the Lord.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,(J)
or decide by what he hears with his ears;(K)
4 but with righteousness(L) he will judge the needy,(M)
with justice(N) he will give decisions for the poor(O) of the earth.
He will strike(P) the earth with the rod of his mouth;(Q)
with the breath(R) of his lips he will slay the wicked.(S)
5 Righteousness will be his belt(T)
and faithfulness(U) the sash around his waist.(V)
6 The wolf will live with the lamb,(W)
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together;
and a little child will lead them.
7 The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.(X)
8 The infant(Y) will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s(Z) nest.
9 They will neither harm nor destroy(AA)
on all my holy mountain,(AB)
for the earth(AC) will be filled with the knowledge(AD) of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.

Sion népének hegye,

Jeruzsálem népének királyi uralma.”

9 Miért kiáltozol hát oly keservesen?

Vagy elvesztek tanácsadóid,

11 Sok nemzet gyűlt össze ellened,
s ezt mondják: „Rontsunk rá,
teperjük a földre,
legeltessük szemünket
a Sion romjain!”
12 De ők nem értik
az Örökkévaló gondolatát,
nem ismerik terveit!
Mert az Örökkévaló
akarta őket összegyűjteni,
mint kévéket a szérűre,
amikor eljön a cséplés ideje.
13 Olyan erős leszel, Sion népe,
mint vas-szarvú,
bronz-patájú bivaly!
Zúzd össze a nemzeteket,
taposd meg és csépeld őket,
mint a búzát a szérűn!
Gazdagságukat pedig
add az Örökkévalónak,
vagyonukat
az Egész Föld Urának!

the former dominion will be restored(A) to you;
kingship will come to Daughter Jerusalem.(B)”
9 Why do you now cry aloud—
have you no king[b](C)?
Has your ruler[c] perished,
that pain seizes you like that of a woman in labor?(D)
10 Writhe in agony, Daughter Zion,
like a woman in labor,
for now you must leave the city
to camp in the open field.
You will go to Babylon;(E)
there you will be rescued.
There the Lord will redeem(F) you
out of the hand of your enemies.
11 But now many nations
are gathered against you.
They say, “Let her be defiled,
let our eyes gloat(G) over Zion!”
12 But they do not know
the thoughts of the Lord;
they do not understand his plan,(H)
that he has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing floor.
13 “Rise and thresh,(I) Daughter Zion,
for I will give you horns of iron;
I will give you hooves of bronze,
and you will break to pieces many nations.”(J)
You will devote their ill-gotten gains to the Lord,(K)
their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.

“‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not cry.’
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,(A) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(B) 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
