¹³ Therefore my people will go into exile^(A)
    for lack of understanding;^(B)
those of high rank^(C) will die of hunger
    and the common people will be parched with thirst.^(D)

¹⁸ They know nothing, they understand^(A) nothing;
    their eyes^(B) are plastered over so they cannot see,
    and their minds closed so they cannot understand.

¹⁹ No one stops to think,
    no one has the knowledge or understanding^(A) to say,
“Half of it I used for fuel;^(B)
    I even baked bread over its coals,
    I roasted meat and I ate.
Shall I make a detestable^(C) thing from what is left?
    Shall I bow down to a block of wood?”^(D)

²⁰ “Gather together^(A) and come;
    assemble, you fugitives from the nations.
Ignorant^(B) are those who carry^(C) about idols of wood,
    who pray to gods that cannot save.^(D)
