11 Every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices time after time, which can never take away sins.(A) 12 But this man, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.[a](B) 13 He is now waiting until his enemies are made his footstool.(C) 14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified. 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after he says:

16 This is the covenant I will make with them
after those days,

the Lord says,

I will put my laws on their hearts
and write them on their minds,

17 and I will never again remember

their sins and their lawless acts.[b](D)

18 Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Exhortations to Godliness

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus(E) 20 he has inaugurated[c] for us a new and living way through the curtain (that is, through his flesh(F))— 21 and since we have a great high priest over the house of God,(G) 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.(H) 23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful.(I) 24 And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, 25 not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other,(J) and all the more as you see the day approaching.

Warning against Deliberate Sin

26 For if we deliberately go on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,(K) 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries.(L) 28 Anyone who disregarded the law of Moses died without mercy, based on the testimony of two or three witnesses.(M) 29 How much worse punishment do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, who has regarded as profane[d] the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?(N) 30 For we know the one who has said,

Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,[e][f]

and again,

The Lord will judge his people.[g](O)

31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.(P)

32 Remember the earlier days when, after you had been enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings.(Q) 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to taunts and afflictions, and at other times you were companions of those who were treated that way.(R) 34 For you sympathized with the prisoners[h] and accepted with joy the confiscation of your possessions, because you know that you yourselves have a better and enduring possession.[i](S) 35 So don’t throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.(T) 36 For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you may receive what was promised.(U)

37 For yet in a very little while,
the Coming One will come and not delay.
38 But my righteous one[j] will live by faith;
and if he draws back,
I have no pleasure[k] in him.[l](V)

39 But we are not those who draw back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and are saved.

11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

11 Every priest stands daily ministering and (A)offering time after time the same sacrifices, which (B)can never take away sins; 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice (C)for [a]sins (D)for all time, (E)sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time onward (F)until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet. 14 For by one offering He has (G)perfected (H)for all time those who are [b]sanctified. 15 And (I)the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying,

16 (J)This is the covenant which I will make with them
After those days, declares the Lord:

He then says,

17 (K)And their sins and their lawless deeds

18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, an offering for sin is no longer required.

A New and Living Way

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we (L)have confidence to (M)enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by (N)a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through (O)the veil, that is, through His flesh, 21 and since we have (P)a great priest (Q)over the house of God, 22 let’s (R)approach God with a [c]sincere heart in (S)full assurance of faith, having our hearts (T)sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies (U)washed with pure water. 23 Let’s hold firmly to the (V)confession of our (W)hope without wavering, for (X)He who promised is faithful; 24 and let’s consider how (Y)to [d]encourage one another in love and (Z)good deeds, 25 not abandoning our own (AA)meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but (AB)encouraging one another; and all the more as you see (AC)the day drawing near.

Christ or Judgment

26 For if we go on (AD)sinning willfully after receiving (AE)the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of (AF)judgment and (AG)the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28 (AH)Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 (AI)How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve (AJ)who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean (AK)the blood of the covenant (AL)by which he was sanctified, and has (AM)insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “(AN)Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “(AO)The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a (AP)terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the (AQ)living God.

32 But remember (AR)the former days, [e]when, after being (AS)enlightened, you endured a great (AT)conflict of sufferings, 33 partly by being (AU)made a public spectacle through insults and distress, and partly by becoming [f](AV)companions with those who were so treated. 34 For you (AW)showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted (AX)joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves (AY)a better and lasting possession. 35 Therefore, do not throw away your (AZ)confidence, which has a great (BA)reward. 36 For you have need of (BB)endurance, so that when you have (BC)done the will of God, you may (BD)receive [g]what was promised.

37 (BE)For yet in a very little while,
(BF)He who is coming will come, and will not delay.
38 (BG)But My righteous one will live by faith;
And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.

39 But [h]we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith for the safekeeping of the soul.

10:11-ff' not found for the version: The Westminster Leningrad Codex.
