Isus je naš vrhovni svećenik

Glavno u svemu ovome je: mi imamo takvoga vrhovnog svećenika koji sjedi s desne strane prijestolja veličanstvenoga Boga na Nebu. On obavlja službu vrhovnog svećenika na najsvetijemu mjestu.

kad ću s narodom Izraela i narodom Jude
    sklopiti Novi savez.
On neće biti poput Saveza
koji sam sklopio s njihovim očevima
onoga dana kad sam ih uzeo za ruku
    i poveo iz Egipta.
Oni nisu ostali vjerni mom Savezu
i zato sam ih zanemario, kaže Gospodin.
10 Ovo je Savez koji ću sklopiti s narodom Izraelovim
    nakon tog vremena, kaže Gospodin.
Stavit ću svoje zakone u njihovu pamet
i upisati ih u njihova srca.
Ja ću biti njihov Bog i oni će biti moj narod.
11 Više neće morati poučavati svoje sugrađane ili rodbinu
    da trebaju upoznati Gospodina;
poznavat će me svi,
    od najmanjega do najvećega.
12 Jer, ja ću im oprostiti opačine
i neću više pamtiti njihove grijehe.«[b]

13 Nazivajući ovaj Savez »novim«, proglasio je prvi zastarjelim. A sve što je zastarjelo, uskoro će nestati.

¶ Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such a high priest who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices; therefore, it is also necessary that this one have something to offer.

For if he were on earth, he should not even be a priest, being present still the other priests that offer gifts according to the law,

(who serve as an example and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern showed unto thee in the mount);

¶ but now a more excellent ministry is his, in that he is the mediator of a better testament, which was established upon better promises.

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place should have been sought for the second.

For finding fault with them, he said, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new testament with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,

not according to the testament that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in my testament, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

10 For this is the testament that I will ordain to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their soul and write them upon their hearts, and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

11 and no one shall teach his neighbour nor anyone his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

12 For I will reconcile their iniquities and their sins, and their iniquities I will remember no more.

13 In that he says, New, he has made the first old. Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away.

Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant

Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, (A)one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in (B)the true tent[a] that the Lord (C)set up, not man. For (D)every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus (E)it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. They serve (F)a copy and (G)shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, (H)“See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.” But as it is, Christ[b] has obtained a ministry that is (I)as much more excellent than the old as (J)the covenant (K)he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. (L)For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

For he finds fault with them when he says:[c]

(M)“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10 (N)For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and (O)write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall (P)all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
(Q)and I will remember their sins no more.”

13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And (R)what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
