Binh-đát Cho Rằng Gióp Phải Xét Lại Nếp Sống của Mình
8 Bấy giờ Binh-đát người Su-a đáp lời và nói:
2 Anh cứ nói những điều ấy cho đến bao giờ mới thôi?
Anh cứ nói ào ào như cuồng phong thổi tới.
3 Ðức Chúa Trời có bao giờ bẻ cong công lý chăng?
Ðấng Toàn Năng há uốn cong lẽ chính trực hay sao?
4 Nếu các con anh đã phạm tội đối với Ngài,
Thì Ngài bắt chúng phải gánh lấy hậu quả tội lỗi của chúng;
5 Nếu anh chuyên tâm tìm kiếm Ðức Chúa Trời,
Và hết lòng khẩn nguyện với Ðấng Toàn Năng,
6 Nếu anh quả thật là người trong sạch và ngay thẳng,
Thì bây giờ Ngài sẽ đứng dậy để binh vực anh,
Và sẽ tái lập anh vào cương vị của một người công chính;
7 Dù lúc bắt đầu hơi có phần khiêm tốn,
Nhưng đến cuối cùng sẽ vĩ đại khôn lường.
8 Tôi xin anh hãy tìm hiểu kinh nghiệm của các bậc tiền nhân,
Và suy xét những gì tổ tiên của họ đã tìm thấy.
9 Vì chúng ta mới có mặt ngày hôm qua và chẳng biết gì,
Vì những ngày của chúng ta trên đất qua mau như cái bóng.
10 Há chẳng phải các vị tiền bối sẽ dạy anh và bảo anh,
Và sẽ nói cho anh biết tri thức nằm lòng của họ hay sao?
11 Cây lau há có thể mọc lên nơi không phải bùn lầy?
Cây sậy há có thể mọc lên nơi không có nước?
12 Khi đang còn xanh tươi chưa kịp cắt về,
Chúng đã bị khô héo trước các loài cỏ khác.
13 Ðó là số phận của mọi kẻ quên ơn lìa bỏ Ðức Chúa Trời;
Hy vọng của những kẻ không tin kính Chúa sẽ tiêu vong.
14 Nơi nó nương dựa bị hoàn toàn sụp đổ;
Chỗ nó tin cậy chỉ là màng nhện mong manh.
15 Nó dựa vào căn nhà, nhưng nhà không đứng vững;
Nó bám vào căn nhà, nhưng nhà chẳng còn được bao lâu.
16 Nó như cây lớn mạnh xanh tươi dưới ánh mặt trời,
Các nhánh nó vươn ra tỏa rộng khắp vườn;
17 Các rễ nó quấn chằng chịt chung quanh đống đá;
Các rễ con nó len lỏi vào giữa những sỏi đá và bám vào.
18 Nhưng khi nó vừa bị bật gốc khỏi nơi ấy,
Nơi ấy liền phủ nhận nó rằng, “Ta chưa hề thấy ngươi.”
19 Này, đây là niềm vui của đường lối nó:
Từ dưới mặt đất sẽ có các cây khác mọc lên.
20 Này, Ðức Chúa Trời sẽ không loại bỏ người vẹn toàn đạo đức;
Ngài sẽ không phù hộ tay kẻ gian ác bao giờ.
21 Ngài sẽ làm cho miệng anh đầy tiếng cười vui vẻ,
Ngài sẽ ban cho môi anh vang những tiếng reo mừng.
22 Những kẻ ghét anh sẽ mặc lấy xấu hổ;
Và chỗ ở của bọn gian ác sẽ không còn nữa.

Bildad defends God
8 Bildad from Shuah responded:
2 How long will you mouth such things
such that your utterances become a strong wind?
3 Does God pervert justice,
or does the Almighty distort what is right?
4 If your children sinned against him,
then he delivered them into the power of their rebellion.
5 If you will search eagerly for God,
plead with the Almighty.
6 If you are pure and do the right thing,
then surely he will become active on your behalf
and reward your innocent dwelling.
7 Although your former state was ordinary,
your future will be extraordinary.
Tradition
8 Ask a previous generation
and verify the findings of your ancestors,
9 for we are only recently here and don’t know
because our days on earth are a shadow.
10 Won’t they instruct you and tell you;
will words not[a] proceed from their hearts?
Examples from nature
11 Does papyrus grow apart from a marsh?
Does a reed flourish without water?
12 While still tender, uncut,
it will wither before every other grass.
13 So are the paths of all who forget God.
Hope perishes for the godless,
14 whose confidence is a fragile thing,[b]
their trust, a spider’s web.
15 He leans on its web, and it doesn’t stand;
grasps it, and it can’t remain in place.
16 It’s like a well-watered plant in the sun;
its runners spread over its gardens.
17 Its roots are entwined over a pile of rocks,
for it sees a home among stones.
18 If it’s uprooted from its place,
it lies, saying, “I can’t see you.”
19 Surely its way is a joy,
for from the dust other plants[c] sprout.
God’s faithfulness
20 Surely God won’t reject integrity,
won’t strengthen the hand of the wicked.
21 He will still fill your mouth with joy,
your lips with a victorious shout.
22 Those who hate you will be clothed with shame,
and the tent of the wicked will vanish.

8 Then Bildad the Shuhite(A) replied:
2 “How long will you say such things?(B)
Your words are a blustering wind.(C)
3 Does God pervert justice?(D)
Does the Almighty pervert what is right?(E)
4 When your children sinned against him,
he gave them over to the penalty of their sin.(F)
5 But if you will seek God earnestly
and plead(G) with the Almighty,(H)
6 if you are pure and upright,
even now he will rouse himself on your behalf(I)
and restore you to your prosperous state.(J)
7 Your beginnings will seem humble,
so prosperous(K) will your future be.(L)
8 “Ask the former generation(M)
and find out what their ancestors learned,
9 for we were born only yesterday and know nothing,(N)
and our days on earth are but a shadow.(O)
10 Will they not instruct(P) you and tell you?
Will they not bring forth words from their understanding?(Q)
11 Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh?(R)
Can reeds(S) thrive without water?
12 While still growing and uncut,
they wither more quickly than grass.(T)
13 Such is the destiny(U) of all who forget God;(V)
so perishes the hope of the godless.(W)
14 What they trust in is fragile[a];

they cling to it, but it does not hold.(Z)
16 They are like a well-watered plant in the sunshine,
spreading its shoots(AA) over the garden;(AB)
17 it entwines its roots around a pile of rocks
and looks for a place among the stones.
18 But when it is torn from its spot,
that place disowns(AC) it and says, ‘I never saw you.’(AD)
19 Surely its life withers(AE) away,
and[b] from the soil other plants grow.(AF)
