De nakomelingen van Adam
5 Hier volgt een lijst van de nakomelingen van Adam, de mens die God schiep naar zijn gelijkenis. 2 God schiep de mens als man en vrouw en zegende hen. Hij noemde hen ‘mens’ vanaf het begin.
3-5 Adam was honderddertig jaar oud toen zijn zoon Set werd geboren, die in alle opzichten op zijn vader leek. Na Sets geboorte leefde Adam nog achthonderd jaar en kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters. Adam werd negenhonderddertig jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
6-8 Set was honderdvijf jaar oud toen zijn zoon Enos werd geboren. Daarna leefde hij nog achthonderdzeven jaar en kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters. Hij werd negenhonderdtwaalf jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
9-11 Enos was negentig jaar oud toen zijn zoon Kenan werd geboren. Hij leefde daarna nog achthonderdvijftien jaar en kreeg in die tijd nog meer zonen en dochters. Enos werd negenhonderdvijf jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
12-14 Kenan was zeventig jaar oud toen zijn zoon Mahaleël werd geboren. Hij leefde daarna nog achthonderdveertig jaar en kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters. Hij werd negenhonderdtien jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
15-17 Mahaleël was vijfenzestig jaar oud, toen zijn zoon Jered werd geboren. Na Jereds geboorte leefde hij nog achthonderddertig jaar en kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters. Hij werd achthonderdvijfennegentig jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
18-20 Jered was honderdtweeënzestig jaar oud toen zijn zoon Henoch werd geboren. Na diens geboorte leefde Jered nog achthonderd jaar en kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters. Hij werd negenhonderdtweeënzestig jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
21-24 Henoch was vijfenzestig jaar oud toen zijn zoon Metuselach werd geboren. Hij leefde daarna nog driehonderd jaar als trouwe dienaar van God. Hij kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters en toen hij driehonderdvijfenzestig jaar oud was geworden, verdween hij. God had hem van de aarde weggenomen.
25-27 Metuselach was honderdzevenentachtig jaar oud toen zijn zoon Lamech werd geboren. Hij leefde daarna nog zevenhonderdtweeëntachtig jaar en kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters. Hij werd negenhonderdnegenenzestig jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
28-31 Lamech was honderdtweeëntachtig jaar oud toen zijn zoon Noach (Troost) werd geboren. ‘Want,’ zei Lamech, ‘deze zoon zal troost brengen voor het harde werk dat wij moeten doen op deze door God vervloekte grond.’ Na Noachs geboorte leefde Lamech nog vijfhonderdvijfennegentig jaar en kreeg nog meer zonen en dochters. Hij werd zevenhonderdzevenenzeventig jaar oud. Toen stierf hij.
32 Noach was vijfhonderd jaar oud en had drie zonen: Sem, Cham en Jafet.

5 (vi) Here is the genealogy of Adam. On the day that God created man he made him in the likeness of God; 2 he created them male and female; he blessed them and called them Adam [humankind, man] on the day they were created. 3 After Adam lived 130 years he fathered a son like himself and named him Shet. 4 After Shet was born, Adam lived another 800 years and had both sons and daughters. 5 In all, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.
6 Shet lived 105 years and fathered Enosh. 7 After Enosh was born, Shet lived another 807 years and had sons and daughters. 8 In all, Shet lived 912 years; then he died.
9 Enosh lived ninety years and fathered Kenan. 10 After Kenan was born, Enosh lived another 815 years and had sons and daughters. 11 In all, Enosh lived 905 years; then he died.
12 Kenan lived seventy years and fathered Mahalal’el. 13 After Mahalal’el was born, Kenan lived another 840 years and had sons and daughters. 14 In all, Kenan lived 910 years; then he died.
15 Mahalal’el lived sixty-five years and fathered Yered. 16 After Yered was born, Mahalal’el lived another 830 years and had sons and daughters. 17 In all, Mahalal’el lived 895 years; then he died.
18 Yered lived 162 years and fathered Hanokh. 19 After Hanokh was born, Yered lived 800 years and had sons and daughters. 20 In all, Yered lived 962 years; then he died.
21 Hanokh lived sixty-five years and fathered Metushelach. 22 After Metushelach was born, Hanokh walked with God 300 years and had sons and daughters. 23 In all, Hanokh lived 365 years. 24 Hanokh walked with God, and then he wasn’t there, because God took him.
(vii) 25 Metushelach lived 187 years and fathered Lemekh. 26 After Lemekh was born, Metushelach lived 782 years and had sons and daughters. 27 In all, Metushelach lived 969 years; then he died.
28 Lemekh lived 182 years and fathered a son, 29 whom he called Noach [restful]; for he said, “This one will comfort us in our labor, in the hard work we do with our hands [to get what comes] from the ground that Adonai cursed.” 30 After Noach was born, Lemekh lived 595 years and had sons and daughters. 31 In all, Lemekh lived 777 years; then he died.
32 Noach was 500 years old; and Noach fathered Shem, Ham and Yefet.

5 This is the Sefer Toldot Adam. In the yom that barah Elohim Adam, in the demut Elohim He made him;
2 Zakhar and nekevah He created them; and blessed them, and called the shem of them "Adam," in the yom when they were created.
3 And Adam lived a hundred and thirty shanah and fathered in his own demut and after his tzelem (image) and called shmo Shet:
4 And the days of Adam after he had fathered Shet were shemoneh me’ot shanah; and he fathered banim and banot:
5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty shanah: and he died.
6 And Shet lived a hundred and five shanah, and fathered Enosh;
7 And Shet lived after he fathered Enosh eight hundred and seven shanah, and fathered banim and banot:

21 And Chanoch lived sixty and five shanah, and fathered Metushelach;
22 And Chanoch walked with HaElohim after he fathered Metushelach three hundred shanah, and fathered banim and banot;
23 And all the days of Chanoch were three hundred sixty and five shanah;
24 And Chanoch walked with HaElohim; and he was not; for Elohim took him.
25 And Metushelach lived a hundred eighty and seven shanah, and fathered Lamech.
26 And Metushelach lived after he fathered Lamech seven hundred eighty and two shanah, and fathered banim and banot;
27 And all the days of Metushelach were nine hundred sixty and nine shanah; and he died.
28 And Lamech lived a hundred eighty and two shanah and fathered ben;
29 And he called shmo Noach, saying, Zeh yenachamenu (this shall comfort us) in our work and toil of our hands, because of the adamah which Hashem hath cursed.
30 And Lamech lived after he fathered Noach five hundred ninety and five shanah, and fathered banim and banot;
31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven shanah; and he died.
32 And Noach was five hundred years old; and Noach fathered Shem, Cham, and Yephet.

From Adam to Noah
5 This is the written account(A) of Adam’s family line.(B)
When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God.(C) 2 He created them(D) male and female(E) and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind”[a] when they were created.
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image;(F) and he named him Seth.(G) 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.(H)
6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father[b] of Enosh.(I) 7 After he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8 Altogether, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.
9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan.(J) 10 After he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11 Altogether, Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.
12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel.(K) 13 After he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died.
15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared.(L) 16 After he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died.
18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch.(M) 19 After he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.
21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah.(N) 22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God(O) 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God;(P) then he was no more, because God took him away.(Q)
25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech.(R) 26 After he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27 Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.
28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. 29 He named him Noah[c](S) and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.(T)” 30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31 Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.
32 After Noah was 500 years old,(U) he became the father of Shem,(V) Ham and Japheth.(W)
