3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any wild animal which Adonai, God, had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You are not to eat from any tree in the garden’?” 2 The woman answered the serpent, “We may eat from the fruit of the trees of the garden, 3 but about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden God said, ‘You are neither to eat from it nor touch it, or you will die.’” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “It is not true that you will surely die; 5 because God knows that on the day you eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it had a pleasing appearance and that the tree was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her; and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together to make themselves loincloths.
8 They heard the voice of Adonai, God, walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, so the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Adonai, God, among the trees in the garden. 9 Adonai, God, called to the man, “Where are you?” 10 He answered, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid myself.” 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree from which I ordered you not to eat?” 12 The man replied, “The woman you gave to be with me — she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.” 13 Adonai, God, said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman answered, “The serpent tricked me, so I ate.”
14 Adonai, God, said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all livestock and wild animals. You will crawl on your belly and eat dust as long as you live. 15 I will put animosity between you and the woman, and between your descendant and her descendant; he will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”
16 To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pain in childbirth. You will bring forth children in pain. Your desire will be toward your husband, but he will rule over you.”
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to what your wife said and ate from the tree about which I gave you the order, ‘You are not to eat from it,’ the ground is cursed on your account; you will work hard to eat from it as long as you live. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat field plants. 19 You will eat bread by the sweat of your forehead till you return to the ground — for you were taken out of it: you are dust, and you will return to dust.”
20 The man called his wife Havah [life], because she was the mother of all living.
21 Adonai, God, made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
(A: v, S: iv) 22 Adonai, God, said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, to prevent his putting out his hand and taking also from the tree of life, eating, and living forever — ” 23 therefore Adonai, God, sent him out of the garden of ‘Eden to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. 24 So he drove the man out, and he placed at the east of the garden of ‘Eden the k’ruvim and a flaming sword which turned in every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.

3 Aber die Schlange[a] war listiger als alle Tiere des Feldes, die Gott der Herr gemacht hatte; und sie sprach zu der Frau: Sollte Gott wirklich gesagt haben, dass ihr von keinem Baum im Garten essen dürft?
2 Da sprach die Frau zur Schlange: Von der Frucht der Bäume im Garten dürfen wir essen;
3 aber von der Frucht des Baumes, der in der Mitte des Gartens ist, hat Gott gesagt: Esst nicht davon und rührt sie auch nicht an, damit ihr nicht sterbt!
4 Da sprach die Schlange zu der Frau: Keineswegs werdet ihr sterben!
5 Sondern Gott weiß: An dem Tag, da ihr davon esst, werden euch die Augen geöffnet, und ihr werdet sein wie Gott und werdet erkennen, was Gut und Böse ist!
6 Und die Frau sah, dass von dem Baum gut zu essen wäre, und dass er eine Lust für die Augen und ein begehrenswerter Baum wäre, weil er weise macht; und sie nahm von seiner Frucht und aß, und sie gab davon auch ihrem Mann, der bei ihr war, und er aß.
Die Folgen des Sündenfalls
7 Da wurden ihnen beiden die Augen geöffnet, und sie erkannten, dass sie nackt waren; und sie banden sich Feigenblätter um und machten sich Schurze.
8 Und sie hörten die Stimme Gottes des Herrn, der im Garten wandelte, als der Tag kühl war; und der Mensch und seine Frau versteckten sich vor dem Angesicht Gottes des Herrn hinter den Bäumen des Gartens.
9 Da rief Gott der Herr den Menschen und sprach: Wo bist du?
10 Und er antwortete: Ich hörte deine Stimme im Garten und fürchtete mich, denn ich bin nackt; darum habe ich mich verborgen!
11 Da sprach er: Wer hat dir gesagt, dass du nackt bist? Hast du etwa von dem Baum gegessen, von dem ich dir geboten habe, du solltest nicht davon essen?
12 Da antwortete der Mensch: Die Frau, die du mir zur Seite gegeben hast, die gab mir von dem Baum, und ich aß!
13 Da sprach Gott der Herr zu der Frau: Warum hast du das getan? Die Frau antwortete: Die Schlange hat mich verführt; da habe ich gegessen!
14 Da sprach Gott der Herr zur Schlange: Weil du dies getan hast, so sollst du verflucht sein mehr als alles Vieh und mehr als alle Tiere des Feldes![b] Auf deinem Bauch sollst du kriechen und Staub sollst du fressen dein Leben lang!
15 Und ich will Feindschaft setzen zwischen dir und der Frau, zwischen deinem Samen[c] und ihrem Samen: Er wird dir den Kopf zertreten, und du wirst ihn in die Ferse stechen.[d]
16 Und zur Frau sprach er: Ich will die Mühen deiner Schwangerschaft sehr groß machen; mit Schmerzen sollst du Kinder gebären; und dein Verlangen wird auf deinen Mann gerichtet sein,[e] er aber soll über dich herrschen!
17 Und zu Adam sprach er: Weil du der Stimme deiner Frau gehorcht und von dem Baum gegessen hast, von dem ich dir gebot und sprach: »Du sollst nicht davon essen!«, so sei der Erdboden verflucht um deinetwillen! Mit Mühe sollst du dich davon nähren dein Leben lang;
18 Dornen und Disteln soll er dir tragen, und du sollst das Gewächs des Feldes essen.
19 Im Schweiße deines Angesichts sollst du [dein] Brot essen, bis du wieder zurückkehrst zum Erdboden; denn von ihm bist du genommen. Denn du bist Staub, und zum Staub wirst du wieder zurückkehren!
20 Und der Mensch gab seiner Frau den Namen Eva[f]; denn sie wurde die Mutter aller Lebendigen.
21 Und Gott der Herr machte Adam und seiner Frau Kleider aus Fell und bekleidete sie.
22 Und Gott der Herr sprach: Siehe, der Mensch ist geworden wie unsereiner, indem er erkennt, was Gut und Böse ist; nun aber — dass er nur nicht seine Hand ausstrecke und auch vom Baum des Lebens nehme und esse und ewig lebe!
23 So schickte ihn Gott der Herr aus dem Garten Eden, damit er den Erdboden bearbeite, von dem er genommen war.
24 Und er vertrieb den Menschen und ließ östlich vom Garten Eden die Cherubim[g] lagern und die Flamme des blitzenden Schwertes, um den Weg zum Baum des Lebens zu bewachen.

- (3,1) Die Schlange steht in der Schrift öfter für den Teufel oder Satan (Widersacher), ein gefallenes Engelwesen.
- (3,14) Aus Gottes Mund bedeutet der Fluch ein Gerichtswort (vgl. 5Mo 28,15.20). Er kommt als Folge der Sünde auf die Schlange, auf die Menschen wie auch auf die ganze Schöpfung (vgl. Röm 8,19-22; Gal 3,10-14; Offb 22,3).
- (3,15) »Same« steht im AT oft bildlich für Nachkommen.
- (3,15) od. Er wird dir den Kopf zermalmen, und du wirst ihm die Ferse zermalmen. Hier finden wir die erste Prophetie und Verheißung über den zukünftigen Erretter: Ein Nachkomme der Frau sollte den Teufel besiegen, wobei der Teufel auch ihn verwunden würde (Jesus Christus wurden bei der Kreuzigung die Füße durchbohrt).

3 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, “Yea, hath God said, ‘Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden,
3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ‘Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it,lest ye die.’”
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, “Ye shall not surely die;
5 for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and ate, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he ate.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves things to gird about.
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God, walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam and said unto him, “Where art thou?”
10 And he said, “I heard Thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
11 And He said, “Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?”
12 And the man said, “The woman whom Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, “What is this that thou hast done?” And the woman said, “The serpent beguiled me, and I ate.”
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, “Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field. Upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.”
16 Unto the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception. In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.”
17 And unto Adam He said, “Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, ‘Thou shalt not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee, and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return unto the ground, for out of it wast thou taken; for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
22 And the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat and live for ever”—
23 therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden cherubims and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
