Nakuha ni Jacob ang Pagpapala
27 Si Isaac ay matanda na at halos hindi na makakita, kaya ipinatawag niya si Esau, ang anak niyang panganay. 2 Sinabi niya rito, “Anak, matanda na ako at malapit nang mamatay. 3 Pumunta ka sa parang at mangaso. Ihuli mo ako ng hayop 4 at lutuin ang putahing gusto ko. Pagkakain ko'y igagawad ko sa iyo ang aking basbas bago ako mamatay.”
5 Nakikinig pala si Rebeca samantalang kinakausap ni Isaac si Esau. Kaya't nang umalis ito upang sundin ang bilin ng ama, 6 tinawag ni Rebeca si Jacob at sinabi, “Narinig ko ang sinabi ng iyong ama kay Esau: 7 ‘Ihuli mo ako ng hayop at lutuin mo para sa akin. Pagkakain ko, babasbasan kita sa harapan ni Yahweh bago ako mamatay.’ 8 Kaya't ganito ang gawin mo, anak: 9 Kumuha ka agad ng dalawang kambing na mataba at iluluto ko para sa iyong ama. Ipaghahanda ko siya ng pagkaing gustung-gusto niya, 10 at ipakain mo sa kanya upang ikaw ang mabigyan ng basbas bago siya mamatay!”
11 Ngunit sumagot si Jacob sa kanyang ina, “Balbon po si Esau, samantalang ako'y hindi. 12 Malalaman ng aking ama na nililinlang ko siya kapag ako'y kanyang nahipo; susumpain niya ako sa halip na basbasan.”
13 Sumagot ang ina, “Hayaan mong sa akin tumalab ang anumang sumpa niya. Basta't sumunod ka, anak; ako na ang bahala. Kumuha ka na ng kambing.” 14 Kumuha nga si Jacob ng kambing, at iniluto ng kanyang ina ang putahing gustung-gusto ng kanyang ama. 15 Binihisan ni Rebeca si Jacob ng pinakamagarang damit ni Esau na nakatabi sa bahay. 16 Ang mga braso at leeg ni Jacob na walang balahibo'y binalutan niya ng balat ng kambing. 17 Pagkatapos, ipinadala sa anak ang putahe na may kasama pang tinapay na niluto rin niya.
18 Lumapit si Jacob kay Isaac. “Ama!” sabi niya.
“Sino ka ba?” tanong nito.
19 “Ako po si Esau,” sagot ni Jacob. “Nagawa ko na po ang inyong iniuutos sa akin. Narito na po ang gusto ninyong pagkain; bumangon na kayo at kainin na ninyo ito nang ako'y mabasbasan na ninyo pagkatapos.”
20 “Napakadali mo naman yatang nakahuli?” tanong ni Isaac.
“Tinulungan po ako ni Yahweh na inyong Diyos,” sagot ni Jacob.
21 Nagtanong muli si Isaac, “Ikaw ba talaga si Esau? Lumapit ka nga rito nang matiyak ko kung ikaw nga.” 22 Lumapit naman si Jacob at siya'y hinawakan ng ama. “Kay Jacob ang tinig ngunit ang bisig ay parang kay Esau!” wika ni Isaac. 23 Hindi niya nakilala si Jacob, sapagkat ang mga bisig nito'y mabalahibo ring tulad ng kay Esau. Babasbasan na sana ni Isaac si Jacob, 24 ngunit muli pang nagtanong, “Ikaw nga ba si Esau?”
“Ako nga po,” tugon ni Jacob.
25 Kaya't sinabi ni Isaac, “Kung gayon, akin na ang pagkain at pagkakain ko'y babasbasan kita.” Iniabot ni Jacob ang pagkain at binigyan din niya ng alak. 26 “Halika anak, at hagkan mo ako,” sabi ng ama. 27 Nang(A) lumapit si Jacob upang hagkan ang ama, naamoy nito ang kanyang kasuotan, kaya't siya'y binasbasan:
“Ang masamyong halimuyak ng anak ko,
ang katulad ay samyo ng kabukirang si Yahweh ang nagbasbas;
28 Bigyan ka nawa ng Diyos, ng hamog buhat sa itaas,
upang tumaba ang lupa mo't ikaw nama'y makaranas
ng saganang pag-aani at katas ng ubas.
29 Hayaan(B) ang mga bansa'y gumalang at paalipin;
bilang pinuno, ikaw ay kilalanin.
Igagalang ka ng mga kapatid mo,
mga anak ng iyong ina ay yuyuko sa iyo.
Sila nawang sumusumpa sa iyo ay sumpain din,
ngunit ang nagpapala sa iyo ay pagpalain.”
30 Matapos igawad ni Isaac ang kanyang basbas, umalis si Jacob. Siya namang pagdating ni Esau na may dalang usa. 31 Niluto niya ito nang masarap at dinala sa ama. Sinabi niya, “Maupo kayo, ama, at kainin ninyo ang dala kong pagkain upang ako'y inyong mabasbasan.”
32 “Sino ka ba?” tanong ni Isaac.
“Si Esau po, ang inyong panganay,” tugon naman niya.
33 Nanginig ang buong katawan ni Isaac. Sabi niya, “Kung gayo'y sino ang naunang nagdala sa akin ng pagkain? Katatapos ko lang kumain nang ika'y dumating. Binasbasan ko na siya at tataglayin niya iyon magpakailanman.”
34 Humagulgol ng iyak si Esau nang marinig ito at nagmamakaawa, “Basbasan din po ninyo ako, ama!”
35 Ngunit sinabi ni Isaac, “Nilinlang ako ng iyong kapatid kaya nakuha niya ang basbas ko para sa iyo.”
36 Nagsalita(C) si Esau, “Dalawang beses na niya akong dinaya, kaya pala Jacob[a] ang kanyang pangalan! Kinuha na niya ang aking karapatan bilang panganay, at ngayo'y inagaw niya pati ang basbas na ukol sa akin! Wala na ba kayong nalalabing basbas para sa akin?”
37 “Wala na akong magagawa, anak,” sagot ni Isaac. “Siya'y panginoon mo na ngayon; ginawa ko nang alipin niya ang kanyang mga kamag-anak. Ibinigay ko na sa kanya ang kasaganaan sa pagkain at inumin, kaya wala nang nalalabi para sa iyo.”
38 Ngunit(D) patuloy na nagmamakaawa sa kanyang ama si Esau, “Talaga bang iisa lang ang inyong basbas, ama? Basbasan na rin ninyo ako.” At patuloy siyang nanangis.
39 Sinabi(E) ni Isaac sa kanya,
“Ang magiging tahanan mo'y malayo sa kasaganaan,
pati hamog mula sa langit, ika'y pagkakaitan.
40 Tabak(F) mo ang iyong ikabubuhay,
kapatid mo'y iyong paglilingkuran;
upang kalayaa'y iyong makamit,
kailangang ikaw ay maghimagsik.”
41 Namuhi si Esau kay Jacob sapagkat ito ang binasbasan ng kanyang ama. Kaya't ganito ang nabuo sa kanyang isipan: “Pagkamatay ng aking ama, at ito'y hindi na magtatagal, papatayin ko si Jacob!”
42 May(G) nakapagsabi kay Rebeca tungkol sa balak ni Esau, kaya't ipinagbigay-alam niya agad ito kay Jacob. Sinabi niya, “Anak, binabalak ng iyong kapatid na patayin ka upang makapaghiganti siya. 43 Makinig ka sa akin, anak. Umalis ka kaagad! Pumunta ka sa Haran at doon ka muna tumira sa aking kapatid na si Laban. 44 Doon ka muna hanggang hindi humuhupa ang galit ng iyong kapatid; 45 malilimutan din niya ang ginawa mo sa kanya. Hayaan mo't pababalitaan kita kung maaari ka nang bumalik. Masakit man sa loob ko ang malayo ka sa akin, lalong hindi ko matitiis ang kayo'y parehong mawala sa akin.”
Pinapunta ni Isaac si Jacob kay Laban
46 Sinabi ni Rebeca kay Isaac, “Hirap na hirap na ang loob ko sa mga dayuhang asawa ni Esau. Kapag Hetea ring tulad nila ang napangasawa ni Jacob, mabuti pang mamatay na ako.”

Isaac Blesses Jacob
27 When Isaac was old and (A)his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau his older son and said to him, “My son”; and he answered, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Behold, I am old; I do not know the day of my death. 3 (B)Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me, 4 and prepare for me delicious food, such as I love, and bring it to me so that I may eat, that my soul (C)may bless you before I die.”
5 Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game and bring it, 6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, 7 ‘Bring me game and prepare for me delicious food, that I may eat it and bless you before the Lord before I die.’ 8 Now therefore, my son, (D)obey my voice as I command you. 9 Go to the flock and bring me two good young goats, so that I may prepare from them delicious food for your father, such as he loves. 10 And you shall bring it to your father to eat, (E)so that he may bless you before he dies.” 11 But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Behold, (F)my brother Esau is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. 12 Perhaps my father (G)will feel me, and I shall seem to be mocking him and bring (H)a curse upon myself and not a blessing.” 13 His mother said to him, (I)“Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, bring them to me.”
14 So he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared delicious food, such as his father loved. 15 Then Rebekah took the (J)best garments of Esau her older son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. 16 And the skins of the young goats she put on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck. 17 And she put the delicious food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18 So he went in to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?” 19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me; now sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.” 20 But Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” He answered, “Because the Lord your God granted me success.” 21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I (K)may feel you, my son, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not.” 22 So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, who felt him and said, “The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” 23 And he did not recognize him, because (L)his hands were hairy like his brother Esau's hands. (M)So he blessed him. 24 He said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He answered, “I am.” 25 Then he said, “Bring it near to me, (N)that I may eat of my son's game and bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.
26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near and kiss me, my son.” 27 So he came near and kissed him. And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments (O)and blessed him and said,
“See, (P)the smell of my son
is as the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed!
28 May God give you of (Q)the dew of heaven
and of the fatness of the earth
and (R)plenty of grain and wine.
29 Let peoples serve you,
and nations (S)bow down to you.
(T)Be lord over your brothers,
and may your mother's sons bow down to you.
(U)Cursed be everyone who curses you,
and blessed be everyone who blesses you!”
30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, when Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31 He also prepared delicious food and brought it to his father. And he said to his father, “Let my father arise and eat of his son's game, that you may bless me.” 32 His father Isaac said to him, “Who are you?” He answered, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.” 33 Then Isaac trembled very violently and said, “Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I have blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed.” 34 As soon as Esau heard the words of his father, (V)he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, O my father!” 35 But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully, and he has taken away your blessing.” 36 Esau said, (W)“Is he not rightly named Jacob?[a] For he has cheated me these two times. (X)He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.” Then he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?” 37 Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Behold, (Y)I have made him lord over you, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants, and (Z)with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?” 38 Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” And (AA)Esau lifted up his voice and wept.
39 Then Isaac his father answered and said to him:
“Behold, (AB)away from[b] the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be,
and away from[c] the dew of heaven on high.
40 By your sword you shall live,
and you (AC)shall serve your brother;
but when you grow restless
(AD)you shall break his yoke from your neck.”
41 Now Esau (AE)hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself, (AF)“The days of mourning for my father are approaching; (AG)then I will kill my brother Jacob.” 42 But the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said to him, “Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you. 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban my brother in Haran 44 and stay with him a while, until your brother's fury turns away— 45 until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereft of you both in one day?”
46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, (AH)“I loathe my life because of the Hittite women.[d] (AI)If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?”

And he answered him, “Here I am.”
2 Then he said, “Behold now, I am old. I (C)do not know the day of my death. 3 (D)Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me. 4 And make me [a]savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, that my soul (E)may bless you before I die.”
5 Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it. 6 So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying, 7 ‘Bring me game and make [b]savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death.’ 8 Now therefore, my son, (F)obey my voice according to what I command you. 9 Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make (G)savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. 10 Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he (H)may bless you before his death.”
11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, (I)Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth-skinned man. 12 Perhaps my father will (J)feel me, and I shall seem to be a deceiver to him; and I shall bring (K)a curse on myself and not a blessing.”
13 But his mother said to him, (L)“Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, get them for me.” 14 And he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and his mother (M)made [c]savory food, such as his father loved. 15 Then Rebekah took (N)the choice clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. 16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck. 17 Then she gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18 So he went to his father and said, “My father.”
And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”
19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn; I have done just as you told me; please arise, sit and eat of my game, (O)that your soul may bless me.”
20 But Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?”
And he said, “Because the Lord your God brought it to me.”
21 Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I (P)may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.” 22 So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, and he felt him and said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” 23 And he did not recognize him, because (Q)his hands were hairy like his brother Esau’s hands; so he blessed him.
24 Then he said, “Are you really my son Esau?”
He said, “I am.”
25 He said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s game, so (R)that my soul may bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank. 26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near now and kiss me, my son.” 27 And he came near and (S)kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said:
“Surely, (T)the smell of my son
Is like the smell of a field
Which the Lord has blessed.
28 Therefore may (U)God give you
Of (V)the dew of heaven,
Of (W)the fatness of the earth,
And (X)plenty of grain and wine.
29 (Y)Let peoples serve you,
And nations bow down to you.
Be master over your brethren,
And (Z)let your mother’s sons bow down to you.
(AA)Cursed be everyone who curses you,
And blessed be those who bless you!”
Esau’s Lost Hope(AB)
30 Now it happened, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31 He also had made [d]savory food, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, “Let my father arise and (AC)eat of his son’s game, that your soul may bless me.”
32 And his father Isaac said to him, “Who are you?”
So he said, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.”
33 Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, “Who? Where is the one who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate all of it before you came, and I have blessed him—(AD)and indeed he shall be blessed.”
34 When Esau heard the words of his father, (AE)he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me—me also, O my father!”
35 But he said, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing.”
36 And Esau said, (AF)“Is he not rightly named [e]Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”
37 Then Isaac answered and said to Esau, (AG)“Indeed I have made him your master, and all his brethren I have given to him as servants; with (AH)grain and wine I have [f]sustained him. What shall I do now for you, my son?”
38 And Esau said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me—me also, O my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice (AI)and wept.
39 Then Isaac his father answered and said to him:
“Behold, (AJ)your dwelling shall be of the [g]fatness of the earth,
And of the dew of heaven from above.
40 By your sword you shall live,
And (AK)you shall serve your brother;
And (AL)it shall come to pass, when you become restless,
That you shall break his yoke from your neck.”
Jacob Escapes from Esau
41 So Esau (AM)hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, (AN)“The days of mourning for my father [h]are at hand; (AO)then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
42 And the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, “Surely your brother Esau (AP)comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you. 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice: arise, flee to my brother Laban (AQ)in Haran. 44 And stay with him a (AR)few days, until your brother’s fury turns away, 45 until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?”
46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, (AS)“I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; (AT)if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”
