21 L'Éternel se souvint de ce qu'il avait dit à Sara, et l'Éternel accomplit pour Sara ce qu'il avait promis.

Sara devint enceinte, et elle enfanta un fils à Abraham dans sa vieillesse, au temps fixé dont Dieu lui avait parlé.

Abraham donna le nom d'Isaac au fils qui lui était né, que Sara lui avait enfanté.

Abraham circoncit son fils Isaac, âgé de huit jours, comme Dieu le lui avait ordonné.

Abraham était âgé de cent ans, à la naissance d'Isaac, son fils.

Et Sara dit: Dieu m'a fait un sujet de rire; quiconque l'apprendra rira de moi.

Elle ajouta: Qui aurait dit à Abraham: Sara allaitera des enfants? Cependant je lui ai enfanté un fils dans sa vieillesse.

The Birth of Isaac

21 Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah(A) as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.(B) Sarah became pregnant and bore a son(C) to Abraham in his old age,(D) at the very time God had promised him.(E) Abraham gave the name Isaac[a](F) to the son Sarah bore him. When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him,(G) as God commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old(H) when his son Isaac was born to him.

Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter,(I) and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”(J)
