Alliance de Dieu avec Abraham

17 Lorsque Abram fut âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans, l’Eternel apparut à Abram, et lui dit: Je suis le Dieu Tout-Puissant. Marche devant ma face, et sois intègre. 2 J’établirai mon alliance entre moi et toi, et je te multiplierai à l’extrême.

3 Abram tomba sur sa face; et Dieu lui parla, en disant: 4 Voici mon alliance, que je fais avec toi. Tu deviendras père d’une multitude de nations. 5 On ne t’appellera plus Abram[a]; mais ton nom sera Abraham[b], car je te rends père d’une multitude de nations[c]. 6 Je te rendrai fécond à l’extrême, je ferai de toi des nations; et des rois sortiront de toi. 7 J’établirai mon alliance entre moi et toi, et tes descendants après toi, selon leurs générations: ce sera une alliance perpétuelle, en vertu de laquelle je serai ton Dieu et celui de ta postérité après toi. 8 Je te donnerai, et à tes descendants après toi, le pays que tu habites comme étranger, tout le pays de Canaan, en possession perpétuelle, et je serai leur Dieu.

9 Dieu dit à Abraham: Toi, tu garderas mon alliance, toi et tes descendants après toi, selon leurs générations. 10 C’est ici mon alliance, que vous garderez entre moi et vous, et ta postérité après toi: tout mâle parmi vous sera circoncis. 11 Vous vous circoncirez; et ce sera un signe d’alliance entre moi et vous. 12 A l’âge de huit jours, tout mâle parmi vous sera circoncis, selon vos générations, qu’il soit né dans la maison, ou qu’il soit acquis à prix d’argent de tout fils d’étranger, sans appartenir à ta race. 13 On devra circoncire celui qui est né dans la maison et celui qui est acquis à prix d’argent; et mon alliance sera dans votre chair une alliance perpétuelle. 14 Un mâle incirconcis, qui n’aura pas été circoncis dans sa chair, sera exterminé du milieu de son peuple: il aura violé mon alliance.

15 Dieu dit à Abraham: Tu ne donneras plus à Saraï[d], ta femme, le nom de Saraï; mais son nom sera Sara[e]. 16 Je la bénirai, et je te donnerai d’elle un fils; je la bénirai, et elle deviendra des nations; des rois de peuples sortiront d’elle. 17 Abraham tomba sur sa face; il rit, et dit en son cœur: Naîtrait-il un fils à un homme de cent ans? et Sara, âgée de quatre-vingt-dix ans, enfanterait-elle? 18 Et Abraham dit à Dieu: Oh! qu’Ismaël vive devant ta face! 19 Dieu dit: Certainement Sara, ta femme, t’enfantera un fils; et tu l’appelleras du nom d’Isaac[f]. J’établirai mon alliance avec lui comme une alliance perpétuelle pour sa postérité après lui. 20 A l’égard d’Ismaël, je t’ai exaucé. Voici, je le bénirai, je le rendrai fécond, et je le multiplierai à l’extrême; il engendrera douze princes, et je ferai de lui une grande nation. 21 J’établirai mon alliance avec Isaac, que Sara t’enfantera à cette époque-ci de l’année prochaine.

22 Lorsqu’il eut achevé de lui parler, Dieu s’éleva au-dessus d’Abraham.

23 Abraham prit Ismaël, son fils, tous ceux qui étaient nés dans sa maison et tous ceux qu’il avait acquis à prix d’argent, tous les mâles parmi les gens de la maison d’Abraham; et il les circoncit ce même jour, selon l’ordre que Dieu lui avait donné. 24 Abraham était âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans, lorsqu’il fut circoncis. 25 Ismaël, son fils, était âgé de treize ans lorsqu’il fut circoncis. 26 Ce même jour, Abraham fut circoncis, ainsi qu’Ismaël, son fils. 27 Et tous les gens de sa maison, nés dans sa maison, ou acquis à prix d’argent des étrangers, furent circoncis avec lui.

Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;[a] walk before me, and be (A)blameless, 2 that I may make my covenant between me and you, and (B)may multiply you greatly.” 3 Then Abram (C)fell on his face. And God said to him, 4 “Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be (D)the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram,[b] but (E)your name shall be Abraham,[c] (F)for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make (G)you into nations, and (H)kings shall come from you. 7 And I will (I)establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, (J)to be God to you and to your offspring after you. 8 And (K)I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and (L)I will be their God.”

9 And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a (M)sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 He who is (N)eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or (O)bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, 13 both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”

Isaac's Birth Promised

15 And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah[d] shall be her name. 16 I will bless her, and moreover, I will (P)give[e] you a son by her. I will bless her, and (Q)she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.” 17 Then Abraham (R)fell on his face (S)and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” 18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!” 19 God said, “No, but (T)Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name (U)Isaac.[f] I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him. 20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and (V)multiply him greatly. He (W)shall father twelve princes, and (X)I will make him into a great nation. 21 But (Y)I will establish my covenant with Isaac, (Z)whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.”

22 When he had finished talking with him, (AA)God went up from Abraham. 23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him. 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised. 27 And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

17 亚伯兰九十九岁那年，耶和华向他显现说：“我是全能的上帝。你要遵行我的旨意，做纯全无过的人。 2 我要与你立约，我要使你子孙极其兴旺。” 3 亚伯兰就俯伏在地，上帝又对他说： 4 “我要与你立约，你必成为许多民族的始祖。 5 以后你的名字不再叫亚伯兰，要改为亚伯拉罕[a]，因为我要立你为万族之父。 6 我要使你的子孙极其兴旺，许多民族和君王必从你而出。 7 我要和你并你的子子孙孙立永恒的约，我要做你和你子孙的上帝。 8 我要把你现在寄居的整个迦南赐给你和你的后裔永远作产业，我也必做他们的上帝。”

9 上帝又对亚伯拉罕说：“你和你的子孙世世代代都要遵守我的约。 10 你们所有的男子都要受割礼，这是我与你和你的子孙所立的约，你们要遵守。 11 你们都要割包皮，作为我与你们立约的记号。 12 你们世世代代的男子在出生后的第八日都要接受割礼。在你家里出生的和用钱从外族人那里买来的奴仆也要受割礼。 13 不论是在你家里生的，还是你用钱买来的男子，都要接受割礼，这样你们的肉体上就有我永恒之约的记号。 14 任何没有接受割礼的男子，要将他从民中铲除，因为他违背了我的约。”

15 上帝对亚伯拉罕说：“你的妻子以后不要叫撒莱，她的名字要叫撒拉。 16 我必赐福给她，让她为你生一个儿子。她必成为万族的母亲，万民的君王必从她而出。” 17 亚伯拉罕就俯伏在地，笑了起来，心想：“我一百岁了，还能有孩子吗？撒拉已经九十岁了，还能生养吗？” 18 亚伯拉罕对上帝说：“愿以实玛利蒙你赐福。” 19 上帝说：“不，你妻子撒拉必为你生一个儿子，你要给他取名叫以撒，我必向他和他的后代坚守我的约，直到永远。 20 至于以实玛利，我已听见你的祈求，我必赐福给他，使他的后代极其兴旺昌盛。他必做十二个族长的父亲，我必使他成为大国。 21 撒拉必在明年这时候给你生以撒，我必向他坚守我的约。” 22 上帝说完以后，便离开亚伯拉罕上升而去。

23 亚伯拉罕就在那天照着上帝的吩咐，为儿子以实玛利和家中所有的男子，不论是在家中出生的，还是买回来的，都行了割礼。 24 亚伯拉罕接受割礼的时候九十九岁。 25 他的儿子以实玛利接受割礼的时候十三岁。 26 他们父子二人就在那天接受了割礼。 27 亚伯拉罕家里所有的男子，包括家中出生的和买回来的，都一起接受了割礼。

17 When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am El Shaddai.[a] Walk with me and be trustworthy. 2 I will make a covenant between us and I will give you many, many descendants.” 3 Abram fell on his face, and God said to him, 4 “But me, my covenant is with you; you will be the ancestor of many nations. 5 And because I have made you the ancestor of many nations, your name will no longer be Abram[b] but Abraham.[c] 6 I will make you very fertile. I will produce nations from you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will set up my covenant with you and your descendants after you in every generation as an enduring covenant. I will be your God and your descendants’ God after you. 8 I will give you and your descendants the land in which you are immigrants, the whole land of Canaan, as an enduring possession. And I will be their God.”

9 God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants in every generation. 10 This is my covenant that you and your descendants must keep: Circumcise every male. 11 You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskins, and it will be a symbol of the covenant between us. 12 On the eighth day after birth, every male in every generation must be circumcised, including those who are not your own children: those born in your household and those purchased with silver from foreigners. 13 Be sure you circumcise those born in your household and those purchased with your silver. Your flesh will embody my covenant as an enduring covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male whose flesh of his foreskin remains uncircumcised will be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant.”

15 God said to Abraham, “As for your wife Sarai, you will no longer call her Sarai. Her name will now be Sarah. 16 I will bless her and even give you a son from her. I will bless her so that she will become nations, and kings of peoples will come from her.”

17 Abraham fell on his face and laughed. He said to himself, Can a 100-year-old man become a father, or Sarah, a 90-year-old woman, have a child? 18 To God Abraham said, “If only you would accept Ishmael!”

19 But God said, “No, your wife Sarah will give birth to a son for you, and you will name him Isaac.[d] I will set up my covenant with him and with his descendants after him as an enduring covenant. 20 As for Ishmael, I’ve heard your request. I will bless him and make him fertile and give him many, many descendants. He will be the ancestor of twelve tribal leaders, and I will make a great nation of him. 21 But I will set up my covenant with Isaac, who will be born to Sarah at this time next year.” 22 When God finished speaking to him, God ascended, leaving Abraham alone.

23 Abraham took his son Ishmael, all those born in his household, and all those purchased with his silver—that is, every male in Abraham’s household—and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that same day, just as God had told him to do. 24 Abraham was 99 years old when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin, 25 and his son Ishmael was 13 years old when the flesh of his foreskin was circumcised. 26 That same day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised. 27 All the men of his household, those born in his household and those purchased with silver from foreigners, were circumcised with him.

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old,(A) the Lord appeared to him(B) and said, “I am God Almighty[a];(C) walk before me faithfully and be blameless.(D) 2 Then I will make my covenant between me and you(E) and will greatly increase your numbers.”(F)

3 Abram fell facedown,(G) and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you:(H) You will be the father of many nations.(I) 5 No longer will you be called Abram[b]; your name will be Abraham,[c](J) for I have made you a father of many nations.(K) 6 I will make you very fruitful;(L) I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.(M) 7 I will establish my covenant(N) as an everlasting covenant(O) between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God(P) and the God of your descendants after you.(Q) 8 The whole land of Canaan,(R) where you now reside as a foreigner,(S) I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you;(T) and I will be their God.(U)”

9 Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant,(V) you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.(W) 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.(X) 11 You are to undergo circumcision,(Y) and it will be the sign of the covenant(Z) between me and you. 12 For the generations to come(AA) every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised,(AB) including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised.(AC) My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant.(AD) 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised(AE) in the flesh, will be cut off from his people;(AF) he has broken my covenant.(AG)”

15 God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai(AH) your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.(AI) 16 I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her.(AJ) I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations;(AK) kings of peoples will come from her.”

17 Abraham fell facedown;(AL) he laughed(AM) and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old?(AN) Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?”(AO) 18 And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael(AP) might live under your blessing!”(AQ)

19 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son,(AR) and you will call him Isaac.[d](AS) I will establish my covenant with him(AT) as an everlasting covenant(AU) for his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers.(AV) He will be the father of twelve rulers,(AW) and I will make him into a great nation.(AX) 21 But my covenant(AY) I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you(AZ) by this time next year.”(BA) 22 When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.(BB)

23 On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household(BC) or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him.(BD) 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old(BE) when he was circumcised,(BF) 25 and his son Ishmael(BG) was thirteen; 26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that very day. 27 And every male in Abraham’s household(BH), including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.
